I do not expect, nor will I tolerate, being bullied by DG employee 'Karen' because I can not wear a mask due to medical issues. That is, however, what happened at DG store #01954 in Carlisle, Ohio at 20:57 on 07/25/2020. Karen told me I had to have a mask on to shop in the store. I explained that I can not wear a mask due to medical issues. She told me that doesn't matter; I had to wear a mask. I told her that no, I do not have to wear a mask. She told me 'it's the law'. I told her no, it's not the law; there's an exemption for people who are unable to wear a mask due to medical conditions. That's why it's a recommendation, not mandatory. I added that she needed to put her own mask over her nose, not below it. She informed me that I don't know what I'm talking about, that masks are supposed to be worn below the nose. I told her 'she' obviously didn't know what 'she' was talking about - to which she replied she knew more about it than I. I replied 'obviously you don't' and walked away from her. She continued to say yes, she did and again I didn't know what I was talking about, yada, yada. I went to the register and asked the gentleman to get the manager for me. The manager, Denise, was not there. Karen was 'acting' manager. When she came to the register, I pointed to the store's signage and asked her to read the last statement on it. She refused so I read it to her. As I paid for a loaf of bread and two plastic containers, she continued to run her mouth. For the record, I do not have covid. I am medically considered to be at high-risk. However, I am at higher risk if I wear a mask. I suggest Dollar General, at the very least, make sure employees are informed about how 'they' should wear their masks and that it does matter if a customer can not wear a mask.
Update: I spoke with the Asst. Manager today about this incident. When she apologized, I told her I didn't call for an apology. The call was not for my benefit. It was for the store's benefit. I called to let them know they need to make Karen aware of exemptions included in the mask recommendation - and how to properly wear her own mask. Either they will make her aware or they won't. Either way she's not my problem.
