National Tire & Battery [NTB] - broken wheel lock

In May of 2008, I bought in a 2004 Mustang to have two front tires replaced. One hour later they tell me that a wheel lock was broken while removing a wheel. Long story short, they charged me $90. plus the price of the lock they broke.

I know I can't prove they broke it but, I find it hard to believe that a wheel lock on a four year old car would just break.

I guess next time I'll take the tires off and bring them to a shop other than NTB to have them mounted.

I suppose you're right Spooky842002. I guess I was in the "don't get ripped off by the tire shop trying to suck money out of me" mode.
I recently had tire service done and I went ahead and took off the wheel locks just to be sure.

Happens all the time. The star pattern that is etched in the lock piece is much weaker than a normal socket. These wheel lock still require 100 ft lbs of torque to keep the wheel from falling off. So I can see how that could happen. I've had to buy customers $20 wheel keys after performing a free brake inspection that I don't get paid for. The funny thing is the locking lug nuts are easy to remove without a key and most theives have the universal nut cracker.
