Farmers Home Furniture - Unrelated purchase charges

I accompanied my Son to the Farmers home Furniture store in Valdosta, GA to pay on his account. I inquired about the details of his account mainly because the furniture he purchased for the price was very poor quality. After receiving a copy of the Contract I noticed a charge for "Life Insurance". I asked why he was charged for a Life Insurance Policy to purchase/finance furniture. The explanation I received was in case he died or lost his job. Since when is it Legal for a furniture store to take out Life Insurance Policies on customers. This has to be illegal. They charged him $300+ for the Life Insurance Policy.

Desired outcome: Reimbursement for the amount of the "Life Insurance" policy.
