I just finished my "education" at Everest at the Thornton, Colorado campus. Where do I start...My first mod, I was the only new student and got shuffled to the back of the class and did not learn a thing. I switched classes to see if that would make a difference. It did, only because the class was smaller and I took charge. I soon started demonstrating injections and veni's for the class, my instructor was uncomfortable with people watching her. My instructor was more concerned with tardiness then giving the class correct information/instruction on a subject, if she gave any information/instruction at all. She was so rude to me and others it was crazy. I was ill and in need of surgery during my education at Everest, and had numerous Dr. notes explaining my situation, but she still did not seem to understand or let it stop her from her abuse.
The staff at Everest, except for one or two people were extremely rude and unprofessional. They did not care that I had my own personal life and constantly interfered. One of the medical assisting chairs made students cry during monthly evaluations, and she decided to come after me my last night of classes. This woman judged me and talked down to me, without checking her facts first. There is no excuse for how she spoke to me. I defended myself against her verbal attack which resulted in threats of my externship getting held up and a meeting with some of the staff. During which, I had to defend myself again as they tried to lie about a few things to cover their own ###. Now, I have to take an assessment of my skills with the chair woman who verbally attacked me before I'm able to go on my externship. Totally absurd!
There is nothing ethical or educational about this particular school. They seem to get off in their position of power. They seem to think intimidation is the key to success. I don't know how many times I heard the Everest famous justification for their rude behavior " You'd better get use to it, you will work for someone who treats you like that one day".There were times I tried to switch classes, to get away from my instructors ### and the medical assisting chair people acted like I was putting them out. I became very uncomfortable at this school and they wondered why it appeared that I was unhappy there. I have done nothing but bust my ### the past 7 months and getting treated like crap in the end feels horrible. I spent 25 hours per week in class and about 80 in home on school work. And for what?
I'm actually worried about posting this now, I hope none of them read it. I haven't gone on my extern yet...
Sorry about your experience... But now in 2014 those aren't issues... You have to be fit for the program. I am taking up becoming a medical assistant.. And 4 months in I love ABSOLUTLEY everyone in the building.l. It is what you make of it...
