Safeway - unsatisfactory customer services and facilities

No customer service. Regularly wait for 20min for help at customer service desk. Long lines with only one or two lanes open. Employees rarely help bag my groceries and the person checking me out has actually tapped their fingers at me bagging to go faster, twice, with a long line behind me. Don't they normally help? Bathrooms out of service for months.

The Safeway in Fraser, Colorado is the only grocery store within 15 miles of my residence. The nature of our town's tourist economy means that during parts of the year we are busy with a lot of people coming in from out of town. Nearly every other service based business in the county prepares for these times of year by adding extra inventory and hiring extra employees. Not the Safeway! No matter the time of year or the amount of consumers in the store they always have the same amount of employees. I have seen the store with only three lanes open, lines tracing through the isles of the store to the back, on Christmas eve. I cannot even speak about what happens at the self check out. There are times you need help and look up to see that all 5 of the other self check out lights are blinking too. In Fraser we have a tax on plastic bags, 20 cents per bag. Great, but that means we all bring our own bags. Generally when I go to grocery stores anywhere else there is someone to check you out, and someone to help bag your groceries. If not, your checker will at least help you bag once they are finished scanning. Not that we've ever had help bagging our groceries but now, not only is there no help, but it makes our check out time and experience miserable. My checker, in fact, on two separate occasions, and two separate checkers, have actually started tapping their fingers in lieu of my slow bagging all while a long line is impatiently waiting behind me. I watch other customers need help too with their bagging, mothers with children, elderly people. It is easy to come forward and help other customers with their bagging if you are next in line but it shouldn't have to happen just because the people working are too lazy to do their jobs.
The overall job performance and demeanor of the employees that have worked at the store for long periods of time are unapproachable, pretend that they don't speak English, and are generally not happy to help you. Perhaps one could simply look to their turnover rate for an idea of how well the store is run. No one ever uses the customer service desk as I don't think they have any employees that know how to use it either.
I have previously addressed the bathrooms which have been out of order for months in my generously allotted 345 character complaint.
Furthermore it is confusing to me that we have these on going issues when our store is located in a tourism based economy, mountain town. They are the only grocery store within 15 miles and apparently the only other Safeway that grosses more revenue annually is in Hawaii. Why is our store allowed to operate in this manner with no oversight from the larger corporation? Is there not at least an industry standard? Perhaps there is, it just doesn't apply to Fraser as we have no choice to go anywhere else and the store will make tons of money regardless of the average wait time.
In summary, although I live less than 1 mile from this store, my husband and I now Drive 15 miles to City Market to feed our family.
You ought to poll the locals who do shop at Safeway in Fraser, I suspect that you will find I am not the only one with these sentiments.
This is my first ever online complaint of a business.
