Let me start this of with the fact that I was not looking for an agency when I went to see them. I was approached by a scout while I was at work. The girl that talked to me, seemed very nice and friendly. She asked for my phone number so they could contact me and give me a few details about Urban. I agreed- since I am always looking for new opportunities. They called me two days later and set up an appointment with me to "talk about the company". I show up to a scary neighborhood with a tiny building with no parking, I didn't think too much of it but still. I went in filled out an application and waited for someone to come and talk to me. After waiting thirty minutes, I finally sat down with one of their employees. I was expecting a light conversation about the company and why getting signed with them would be worth my while. I was wrong. I sit down and in front of me is the most unfriendly person I have ever encountered. They looked over my application without a single word, and finally looked at me and said, "So, who have you been signed with?" I replied no one, and that I have gotten my year experience, 30+ photoshoots, and a number of paid gigs all on my own. They at first didn't believe me until I showed the employee my facebook modeling page with 2, 000 likes and countless images and also some images I did for a catalog that I did recently. Next thing I know they shove a contract in my face, tell me I have to change my hair color from platinum blonde to either dirty blonde or brunette because if I didn't I would not be marketable enough for them, even though I looked through their models on their website where half of them have platinum blonde hair or are just plain bad looking. I instantly got defensive and told them I would not change my hair color. After that, the employee was very, very rude on top of being unfriendly to start out with. I then told the employee that I was not even planning to sign a contract today where he replied with, "So, why did you even come see us today." I just thought I was there to learn a little more about it, when really they just want to scam poor wannabe models into signing a contract with them so they pay at least $250 to be on their website, where they might not even get jobs, or if they do get one they take 15% which would be normal except I feel like only 1/4 of them actually get jobs, which is what I heard from a very talented model that I met that signed with them. She is beautiful and hasn't gotten a job in MONTHS. I was all around disappointed with how disrepectful and rude they were. Which is why I ripped up the card they gave me right when I got home. I am proof that you can be successful without an agency, so if you are planning on getting your big break by signing with them, DON'T DO IT.
