Unfortunately, my 15 year old son and his 2 friends went joyriding in my neighbors/friends car when my neighbor was out of town. Thank God no one was hurt. My neighbor "Greg" knew someone was driving his 1989 Toyota 4-Runner per it was parked incorrectly in his driveway, and my son did confess to it. Rather than calling the police he & I agreed that I would ground my son for life and fix what he believes is wrong w/the car. The car on Kelly's Blue Book is $3,100 in excellent condition and $2,100 in fair condition which I believe its worth. The 1st thing Greg wanted checked out was the Transmission--So I take it to a Transmission Masters, the place that Greg had the transmission fixed in 2003. On Friday Aug 3rd I gave them the old receipt that Greg had {warranty expired @ 3 years} and explained to them that I just wanted them to check the Transmission. There Billboard in front of there business has a advertisement of "Free Transmission Check". The agent said they were to busy and could do it on Monday. So I left them the key and said CALL ME when your done. I called on Monday and the agent said there running behind but will check it on Tuesday--I explained the situation that I had to do alot of repairs on it and it was my last day off so he agreed I pick it up and drop it off before 6PM or leave key in dropbox. I then fixed front Breaks, oil change, car wash and even bought 2 new tires for back of car. I went back to Transmission Masters before 6PM and the doors were locked so I left Key in drop box. I get a message from Greg that Transmission Masters called him saying there is something wrong w/transmission. So I call TM and they said we did'nt even look at it yet but we have your number. The next day Aug 8th I am @ work and Greg calls me telling me that the estimate is $2,900 something and maybe more so he tells them to go ahead w/it and order the parts. It took me about 1/2 hour to get that message and I called Transmission Masters immediately explaining to them that I was in charge of fixing the car and told them to STOP! He said its to late already ordered the parts. I told him I would pay whatever the labor was and just stop and he said I'm not talking to you it's not your car. I told the agent THE DAY I BROUGHT IT IN to call ME which he agreed... I called Tuesday morning to CALL ME and he agreed. I DID NOT GET ONE CALL from Transmission Masters at all regarding this matter. Personally, the car drove GREAT and I believe the agent knew my back was against the wall. As of 820AM on Aug 10th I'm still unsure of what my rights are. I personally am to the point of a nervous breakdown. Like I mentioned before I just wanted a FREE TRANSMISSION CHECK like the ad said, and now I'm stuck. My other options were purchasing another vehicle w/would be in alot better shape or telling Greg to press charges on the 3 boys so the other PARENTS can have the STRESS. Please HELP me per Transmission Masters selling practices are WRONG.
