I am a company reviewer. I mystery shop different companies to share my experiences about customer service with other consumers. My experience with The Cash Store was the worst I've experienced. I went in to take a $100 loan and the total cost to pay back was close to $150 dollars! Part of this expense was the card that the funds was loaded to (even the name of the business was misleading). The attendant neglected to inform me that I had an option to use a debit card that cost $8 as opposed to the almost $20 for the mastercard not to mention the card company's fees (a monthly fee for the mastercard they also didn't tell me about) Then when I went to the bank machine with the card the card wouldn't work so I had to go all the way back to the store to find out what went wrong. When I was phoned the day before my loan was due for a 'reminder' they called my work number! Then when I said I was working late the lady I was speaking to became hostile. When paying there was a charge to use the debit machine. I later interviewed a woman who worked with them who said that the reason for this is because the employees get bonuses based on what they are able to collect making it a cutthroat atmosphere. She said that they pay close to minimum wage which is almost criminal considering the amount they are charging. I know that I warn all of my family and friends about dealing with them. I also found it almost comedic that there is a poster in their office stating that the company values were HONESTY and INTEGRITY! That is the farthest thing from the truth. Please tell everyone you know to boycott this organization. They are vultures sucking money from people with financial hardship by gouging them even further. You have been warned.

I was at one of the stores in Kanata and this employee by the name of Leslie was extremely rude to me. This is my first time ever wanting to make a loan and she couldnt even answer any of my questions. She was very rude from start which made me frustrated so I asked "Do you really work here, Let me speak to your manager" because at this point I was fed up and needed to know what information I needed to provide in order to get a loan. She replied " I'm the manager here, if you have a problem with me then get the f*** out of my store". I was shocked, told her exactly where to go and I left. I gave my business to Money Mart and they we're more then friendly and knew what they were doing. I hope this "Leslie" ### gets what's coming to her, she doesnt even know how to run a business...and IF she is a manager...wow is all I have to say. Stay classy Cashstore your doing it right!

The "insurance" that you take out on each loan is a misleading option.
I had been diagnosed on July 13 with Hep C (although I have never been sick a day in my life it was detected during an examination for the Canadian Cancer Foundation research project). I was told at the time of diagnoses that it would be a minimum of 6 months wait for treatment which was fine by me. But on August 23, the specialist informed me that I was approved to begin immediately and that if I didn’t take this opportunity for government funding, it may not be an option in the future. On August 25, 2012 I went into the Cash Store to pick up the paper work for illness insurance. I was informed that I would have to make a payment but that the insurance would cover me for the last payment which would come due in 2 weeks. I paid the specialist the $75 for the completion of the form and dropped off the papers to the Office Manager Elyse within the 5 days after starting treatment. In early September I received a message to call the Yale store, which I did, due to some kind of problem with the dates. When I called the office, I was told not to worry as they had “figured out” the problem. I never heard anything further from the Cash Store.

In late October, almost 2 months after dropping off the papers and being assured all was well, I get a call saying they need more paperwork. By this time I am pretty much bedridden, going out only for doctor appointments and blood transfusions at the hospital. The new paperwork was picked up and again I paid $75 to the specialist, as well supplied the paperwork copies from my employer and from Sun Life Insurance (through my employer) who were covering my treatment/meds costs of $5000 per month. When I dropped these off, the staff then told me that when I made the payment, there was no insurance paid. I ALWAYS take out the insurance and they confirmed this from all of the previous loans (which have been many over the years). They then said I had to pay the money and wait for reimbursement. This is ridiculous! I argued that this was the biggest reason that I had wanted to get everything taken care of as I knew my condition from the Treatment Side Effects would become worse as the treatment went on. The specialist couldn’t understand how there was such a problem. The illness is not why I was off work, but rather the Treatment Side Effects. Trans Global Insurance had declined the coverage due to the diagnoses of Chronic Hep C in July. Since Chronic means something you have for a long time, it is obvious that the Hep C was not the reason for me being off work but rather the TREATMENT SIDE EFFECTS! Direct to the point...THE LOAN WAS TAKEN OUT BEFORE THE TREATMENT BEGAN AND THE INSURANCE IS SOMETHING THAT I ALWAYS PAID SINCE I BEGAN USING YOUR SERVICE IN 2004.

To cut to the chase, now the staff informed me that it will go to collections unless I can pay at least $20. Being unable to go myself, I sent my son down and while he paying them, he was told that it wouldn’t even cover the amount of interest that had already accumulated. They already knew that I had been on medical leave since August and that my return to work would not be until approximately April 1. To my dismay I have been informed that they balance of $257.68 will grow immensely by the time I have a pay check the April 14. The outstanding balance will then be almost doubled. Possibly back in September, had I been informed of the situation, I might have been able to do something but now I have no income, am confined to home or hospital, and no return to work in the immediate future. I am informed that I can either allow it to collections or agree to payback practically double the initial balance.

Trans Global Insurance sent me a copy of the "terms and agreements" which is very clear that you must not have the "issue" 6 mos. prior to taking out the loan. I also know that the "layoff insurance" also has loopholes that they don't explain until you try to use the insurance you purchased at the time of the loan.

I agree that their fees and interest are criminal...I went in the Cash Store in NB to borrow 300$$ because i was in a rut and needed it to put a partial deposit on a new place for my kid and I so they could hold it until I could pay the remaining deposit and the rent.. Guess how much I had to pay back? 579$$! And that wasn't including the almost 20$ fee or the Mastercard, which was the only option offered to me. It was scheduled to be taken out on the 20th of that same month but instead they decide to try to take it out on the 19th, casing a bounced cheque and 40-something dollar NSF Fee...So i kept the money in the account and told them to take it on the first, but again they try to take it early, this time somehow getting the funds from my bank then the bank taking it back from me, thus causing my account to be over drawn almost 600$ between the time they took it and the tie it was actually deposited, with my bank charging another 7$ overdrawn fee and causing me to be short on rent due to the NSF Fee. In the end they also took an additional 30$$ for what I only assumed is some other BS late payment fee or something that was by their own doing...NEVER AGAIN! I would rather pawn something then go through that ### again..

Beware of this company's false advertising, they now claim that they have installment loans available for borrowers with no credit check. They want you to believe that this is different than a payday loan, when actually their so-called installment loans are simply payday loans with even higher interest rates. A true installment loan does not require borrowers to pay the loan amount plus the interest on their next payday and almost always requires a credit check. In short, I would advise anyone thinking of dealing with this company to just please stay away. There are other companies to consider that are not even half the crooks these people are, they have lousy slow incompetent employees who will nickel and dime you to death. The company pays them close to minimum wage and their only incentive is to totally adhere to their employers policy of further destroying the borrowers already damaged credit and for this they receive a very small bonus. However, if they don't they will be fired on the spot; this explains the constant harassment Cash Store customers receive pretty much on a daily basis by these extremely rude Cash Store employees.

I went in last weekend for a first time loan with these people. After so much time accumulating information and job checks and everything else under the sun. When I told him all I wanted was a $100 loan and he told me I would have to pay back $209 I was so pissed off. I told him..thats criminal. How can you charge someone 109 in fees for a $100 loan for 1 week only.
He agreed and apologized for wasting my time. I then proceeded to go right next door and am only paying $20.00 for a loan.
THE CASH STORE IS TRULY A SCAM! They should be SHUT DOWN!

Watch your local bank statements when you want to put stop payments to prevent The Cash Store from getting into your account to retrieve your money. They will change names to fool your banks' computer system. I think it is time the governments to ban all cash advance loan stores.

Bottom feeders. Thieves. Just ahead of the laws. The juice they charge is criminal. Forced to take a Master Card and a bank account that I don't need or want or will ever use. I will never go back.

Even as an an employee of The Cash Store, I must agree with 95% of the above comments. We are brain washed and forced to perform or face dismissal. I need my income and as such don't sleep well at night. It's a pressure job that I hate but need until I find something else.

Sorry people...but the cash store is crooked ! When I first stared going there...I would borrow $100 and pay back about $145 for a 2 week loan...now they want almost twice the amount...$185 approx. for less then 2 weeks ! Each time I want in they told me I needed a new card and they cut up my old card...I do not need a Mastercard ...it is just a plot to make more money off of us ! I was always a good customer and payed in full on time what I owed...but they keep increasing the pay back with all these extra fees ! Today I opted to throw the card in the woman's face when she said $100 would mean $185 pay back ! I told her what they do is ripping off the poor which is truth ! Taking advantage of people for greed ! Yes if you sign papers and make an agreement ..you need to pay it back on time ! I have always done that...this time I feel into hard time and have an extra mouth to feed now...I desperately needed the $100 to by food...but I would rather starve then give them $180 for a lousy $100 ! I was a great customer...but they got greedy so they lost my business...I think the Government should close them down...I would get better interest with a loan shark on the street ! People never use the cash store again...find somewhere else to go...and if you can...try very hard to get by without borrowing money...rough it if you have to...you would save yourself a whole lot of money and trouble ! I say BOYCOTT the CASH STORE !...DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR BUSINESS ! SEND THE MESSAGE TO THEM !
I am going to print out a bunch of flyers about this and put them up everywhere I can...even around the area of the CASH STORE ! GET THE WORD OUT ! There is power in numbers...if everyone did stuff like this or some other idea...maybe something might change eventually ! Anyway I am going to do something ! It makes me sick to see the poor taken advantage of by these greedy companies...! We need to fight back where it hurts them...their business...customers ! Warn people...redirect them some place better !

Haa ha. True I agree, must pay back what was signed for. Nothing in life is free. Must be responsible. The cash store provided the funds to the people who needed it, it is important that the person who borrowed must pay back on time. I got fired from the Cash Store a couple of months ago. I hate them because I was fired on false accusations from a miserable customer who was screaming at me. I kept calm, and was still nice to her. She hated my dark skin. I had no say. I hate this company soo much. There is always two sides to a story and they didn't bother to hear mine. I curse them for being unreasonable.

This is to SGA13 from above...again when your gf left the store obviously she wasn't paying attention when the clerk was explaining the documents SHE SIGNED to her. I called them and they said, if you take $100 and you pay it off in two weeks it would cost you $120 ($100 you borrowed + $20 interest) she also said you are always welcome to pay it off when ever you want...for $100 it would be about $1.50 a day for the next two weeks...in other words you could take out $100 loan on Monday and pay it off in full on Wednesday for less than $105! Again I say pay attention to what you are signing and ask questions!

When you take out a loan whether it be a bank, credit card, cash store or any other place that is taking a chance on you...you are obligated to pay it back and make your payments when you are scheduled to be due no matter what may happen in your life...just because something happens out of the blue doesn't give anyone the right to say I'm not paying anything. It's no wonder there are so many people filing bankruptcy! Just imagine if everyone started living within their means and not trying to keep up with the Jones's...

What do people think when they are signing papers saying they are giving you cash for only certain documents and as a result you pay back the money you BORROWED plus interest? I did some secret shopping and my opinion is that they are the cheapest place around (really they are) and the loan is meant to be SHORT-term...more or less to help you to get you through when you need cash... They are taking a chance on you! I don't think you could dodge any credit card bill... Maybe people should be serious when they go to any quick cash place and ask questions and really pay attention when the clerk is explaining the documents to them...it's just common sense people! Since when can you borrow money from any business and not have to pay interest? If you know of one please tell EVERYONE! As for their calls I believe they tell you they will call to remind you to come in and all you have to do as the customer is answer that ringing phone or call them back...I'm sure they don't like calling you and your work 5+ times a day. I wish all my bills gave me a call to let me know I'm due! And when people have a problem with something that was done...this is common sense people...if you're rude to them, or anyone you ever deal with except for maybe a kid, most people would be rude back. REMEMBER YOU ARE SIGNING DOCUMENTS THAT SAY YOU ARE GOING TO PAY THEM BACK WHAT THEY LENDED YOU PLUS THE DAILY INTEREST...YOU SHOULD ALWAYS READ AND ASK QUESTIONS ABOUT DOCUMENTS YOUR SIGNING BEFORE YOU SIGN THEM!

The Cash Store is lying! All the times I’ve been there they NEVER offered me the cheque option. EVER. Imagine my surprise when I found out it was available! So I went into to get a pay day loan and the CSR I spoke with tried everything to talk me out of it! Everything! He told be the cheque would take 15 days to clear when I told him my bank doesn’t hold my cheques he asked me what bank I used and when I told him he immediately said “oh we have an issue with that bank so you’re cheque might not go through..” THEN he told me they would have to call someone to get a cheque issued. He did make a phone call covered his hand over the phone and told me they can issue me a cheque but they would have to mail it to me and THAT would take 15 days?! At this point I was livid but calmly asked for the number of their head office. Suddenly his tune changed and he was able to issue me a cheque. The only thing was he had absolutely NO IDEA how to issue a cheque for a pay day loan. NONE. He pulled out a manual on how to process a pay day loan cheques and began reading it. I couldn’t believe it. I had been going to the cash store of and on for a couple of years and seen him working there so it was NOT like he was a brand new employee! By this time I had already been there for over 20 minutes with nothing resolved. Not wanting to be there any longer than I had to I gave in and said I would take the card option (that charges a 7.95 fee per month if you don’t cancel F.Y.I) There were 2 other employees there that could offer no help either. I believe this is 100% the cash store’s fault. They probably force their employees to convince their customers that cheques are just not an option. I used to go because it was convenient (close to my house) if anyone reads this: DO NOT GO TO THE CASH STORE. Go to Money Mart or another lending company instead. Better yet BUDGET wisely so you don’t have to borrow money in the first place!

I had a horrible experience with the Cash Store - I absolutely regret borrowing fromt them. I was in a bind in January so I took a pay day loan. I came in late on the day it was due and spoke with Derek to make arrangements. I paid all I had in cash, which was only $28, but we then made arrangements for me to pay on my next 3 pay days. He said my cheque would have already gone to the bank, but that he would be able to catch it so it didn`t bounce - we even discussed how high my NSF`s are at the bank! The NEXT DAY I went to get groceries and I had insufficient funds. I was SO embarrassed! When i got home and checked my account I saw that they took an odd amount from my account... sneaky because even if you put a stop payment on your cheque, it HAS to be for the exact amount, so they can still take whatever they want. They caused me to be overdrawn, costing me $42.50 in NSF at the bank, then caused my car insurance to bounce, costing an additional 42.50, plus 30 from my insurance broker. The bank said there was nothing they could do about it except open a new chequing account for me so that I could close the other one once i had brought my balance back up from the NEGATIVE, and they were kind enough to credit me for the NSF to my new account and didn`t charge me for new cheques (YAY TD BANK!) THEN the Cash store took another odd amount on the 14th of February BEFORE my payday causing me ANOTHER NSF! I called them at that time and they basically said too bad, and told me that DEREK was new and wasn`t supposed to make the arrangements with me that he did... How is that MY fault, and why wouldn't you pick up the phone in the two weeks since I had seen him to TELL me that and give me an opportunity to make alternative arrangements? Now, they certified the cheque I had given them and took my money again on March 31st so I am now unable to pay my rent. I called and spoke with Leo (okay, I yelled mostly) who tried to encourage me to pay the remaining 50ish dollars outstanding and then they could re-lend to me! WHAT?!?!?!?! I told him no, absolutely not, and that I would not be able to pay the 50ish dollars this pay period, especially since I wasn't able to pay my rent... guess what I saw on my online account today? A charge from the cash store of 55.12 that has again caused me to be overdrawn and will cause me an additional 42.50 in NSF... WTF? I've spoken with Janet at Heritage Cash Store in Edmonton and she once again is not at all helpful... never ever again!

these guys are thieves, my girlfriend just took out a 100 dollar loan with them to fix a leak in our tire, after everything was done, the card given to her, and her receipt in her hand, she walked out the door, looked down, and realized that she was paying 207.00$ of a 100 dollar loan DO NOT USE THE CASH STORE, go to money mart or cashmoney, when i had gone to cashmoney i took out a 130$ loan for an upcoming trip, the total amount i owed back was 150 dollars, and they waived a late fee for me because the bus i took on the trip broke down and we had to wait over night in a rural motel lol. BOYCOTT THE CASH STORE

I told them i should charge the same interest they do on taht money .,

It is now over $170 to pay back...for your first $100 dollar loan. Unless they put you on a SURPRISE bank account (which is an additional 9.95 on top of the 7.95 monthly fee) and if the employee doesn't automatically put new clients on a bank account, they lose their job, with one week's severance. Also there insurance rate is now 4.77% of the total loan. Employees don't care as much about the bonuses, as they do about actually having a job in today's economy that pays at least $2 above minmum wage. If they do not do as the company says (which is every new client gets a mastercard, with a bank account, and the optional insurance) without the client knowing, they get fired, without cause.

The exact same thing happened to me. When I asked the girl why I was not told about the debit card option she said "we ran out". I told her that I wanted the debit card but with the fee wavered, she said "no". It's a crooked operation!
