Working at home may sound attractive until you consider that you are actually paying the employer for the honor; in this case, Teletech. There are an abundance of “hidden costs”, that most people don’t even consider.
1) You use and pay for additional electricity while you work at home.
2) You pay for the entire DSL billing with no reimbursement from Teletech.
3) You use your own computer to handle Teletech’s accounts, allowing them unlimited access to your personal files and emails.
4) You risk contracting a virus through Teletech’s network because if one computer is infected there is a chance that all may become infected.
Today was my group interview for an alleged fulltime Teletech @Home CSR role; what a disappointment, and I want to report that all the negative things I’ve heard and read about Teletech are true. Not only were the claims of rude and unprofessional management confirmed today, but I found that Teletech is offering an unsubstantial wage of $8.50 an hour with no benefits. Additionally, we were told that we “had” to purchase the Teletech approved headset for our new job in order to “move forward, ” and during this initial meeting candidates were asked to install Cisco Unified Presenter in order to allow our desktops to be shared with and accessed by the facilitator, Whitney.
With a group of 20 potential candidates on our 0930 conference call, Whitney gave the distinct impression that she’d rather be anywhere besides an interview session. She was rude, insolent and extremely totalitarian. Within the first 2 minutes of the group interview, I asked Whitney if she could answer a question (“Is the role fulltime or part-time?) to which she curtly replied, “I only answer questions at the end of the interview, ” which in this case was more than 2 hours away. Even though I was not allowed to ask my question, another candidate confirmed that the role was indeed part-time/seasonal and then excused himself from the event explaining that he needed a fulltime position.
Compounding all of this is the fact that you can be terminated at a moment’s notice. Most recently, a 585-seat center in Amherst, Ohio was downsized to 0 representatives because Teletech claims T-Mobile terminated their contract, and are pulling their customer service in-house. Based upon the new and improved (for Teletech) wage offering of $8.50 per hour to new hires, it seems the motivation for laying off 585 tenured representatives was purely to reign in the output of compensation for employees, and enhance the bottom line.

$35 for a decent headset. No other hidden costs of any kind. I Will say this they ask for strict adherence to schedules with the ability to swap with teammates. If you ask around Teletech is on eof the BETTER places to work. I wish I earned alittle more per hour but that starts with the client. If you worked downtown would they pay yoour gas or transportation? NO

I must say that I am not overly impressed so far with Teletech@Home...
I just started, and tonight was supposed to be my first training session, but I cannot even find the session because I was Emailed incorrect information by the trainer who did our orientation session last week.
I was given the incorrect Session name, and incorrect call in number, and have no means of logging into the training at all except if the orientation trainer calls me back with correct information so that I can find, and enter the session.
WHAT A RIP!

I have just started with Teletech@Home, and I must say that I am NOT impressed thus far...
I was supposed to start my training sessions today at 4pm, but the training information that I was sent was incorrect, and I have not been able to join anything. :*(
I was also given an incorrect phone number to dial in on, [protected], but it has been a busy signal now for over 2 hours, and I was not given an alternative number to call.
I have Emailed the Orientation trainer who sent me the incorrect information, but have notas yet been responded to, so I guess I missed the training tonight.
WHAT A JOKE!

Working at home has been the best for me an my family. I like the upbeat attitudes they try to maintain it is good for me. I do wish I made more money of course, but its been a challenge for me to work outside my home for the past few year. I don't have to buy clothes, spending money on gas which is a LOT more than a few extra for electricity - my computer is typically on anyway. You certainly pulled all the negative points out but in the long run I win too so its worth it. I am sorry it wouldn't work for you but I have had some GREAT co workers!@!

Well I've read some of these reviews and personally I'm sick to my stomach with this company. I've been fired and rehired without working a day. I was emailed a confirmation after I completed all my prehire testing. Was offered a job and was set to start orientation on October 9, 2013. Two days before orientation was to be started I received a phone call then an email stating something from 2007 came up on my background check. Mind you I had to retake my urine test because it said diluted. Retook the next day and passed because I don't use drugs. So on orientation day I received a phone call and was offered to attend. I did but knew something was fishy. Now on the day I was retold to attend training I received an email two hours Before it started stating I was receiving a separation notice ( being fired) again! So here is my experience with the company, hope no one else has to go through this also.

I start training Monday, 10/29 for Teletech and I could not be more thrilled. I have wanted this type of job (at home) for so long! The only problems I've run into was during the I-9 paperwork. Yikes! I don't find the instructions all that clear but I didn't give up and I kept emailing back to Teletech telling them my concerns and asking them what to do and everyone was very quick in responding to me and very kind. To me, that's a great sign! I look forward to starting my training and then going to work. I can't remember the name of the girl that held the group meeting but she was wonderful. She was patient, humorous, and very informative. She made sure we all understood everything about the job that she told us. She told us what Teletech could expect from us and what we could expect from them. Another great sign!

I start training tommorow and I didn't set up any direct deposit
Does anyone know when that's suppose to come!? Is there an email coming for it
Or do they discuss that in training? Because you are supposed
To get paid for training so I'm kind of interested in why
Haven't I got the memo on this

I am amazed at some of the negative comments posted by individuals who have had some type of history with this company. The fact stands that at some point in time you were interested in the position because you applied, interviewed, went through the whole "disorganized process", were hired and received a paycheck so whether it was for 3 weeks or 2 years the job served its purpose. It seems to me that this position affords those who desire to work from home that opportunity for whatever reason, so why impose your negative experience on someone who is probably looking at this position as a blessing. Get it together!

I am getting ready to start training for teletech. I can tell you by already having office setting call center experience AND virtual call center experience that taking inbound calls is much easier. you aren't having to sell or upsell anything to people which makes the experience much better. 8.50 an hour is reasonable I mean really, what are you doing besides answering the phone. If the customers are rude you just need to "put yourselves in their shoes". If you ordered a DVD and it STILL isn't there you'd be wondering where your money went as well. If you want to be millionaires go to Law school. Be positive.

**REMEMBER THAT THERE ARE PLENTY OF PEOPLE THAT WOULD GIVE UP A LEG FOR A JOB** consider yourselves blessed.

I was just hired by Teletech and I must say the process so far went very smoothly. The instructor for the interview was very polite and pleasant. I agree with some that we already have DSL, phone, and already using electricity. So why even bring that into this discussion. If you go into employment with a pleasant attitude, you will receive it back! Just be yourself and try your best. I am new to this and this is what I am going to do. Everything happened right under three weeks for me. I start my training on 10/22/2012. i am really looking forard to this job! I am moving forward with a great attitude. good luck everyone.
Also, i have applied with other WAH companies and Teletech seems to be more on top of things.

I worked for Teletech from Oct 2010 to May 2012 and I must say for the most part you don't make much money, the only time you are making money is during holiday rush most of the other time you can wait almost 20 minutes to receive calls and a lot of the Chat Coaches either ask you if you want the rest of the day off or they tell you that YOU HAVE to take the rest of the day off which is called MTO (Mandatory Time Off) to which you have to immediately sign off the system, and you made absolutely no money at all. During the months of February and March, April and May it is like this barely making 15 hours a week sometimes making less than 5 hours per week. There was one week I didn't even get $50 a week because we were receiving no calls at all! Then there are the customer that verbally abuse you at will and whenever they feel the need to do so even if it wasn't your fault you paid for the stores. warehouse, or sales mistakes. It's a very stressful job and can cause stress to you both mentally and physically. You don't get paid vacations or sick leave, If you are sick and cannot work you just don't get paid so most of the time the agents had to work sick and coughing or throwing up and listen to customer complain about not receiving a $20 DVD when you are sick you don't want to hear someone complain about not receiving their DVD, there is so much to worry about in this world! You don't want to hear a bratty rich person talk about how much money they have spent at the stores or online when you are barely making rent with money you get paid! Teletech is not a good company to work for if you only have one income coming into the household, I was paid $8.50 an hour for almost years. When my daughters got sick they would not allow me to take off for her appointments I had to find someone to cover for me,

it's not a family friendly place to work, they want you to put family last and that job first and it cannot be that way especially if you are a single parent and your children depend on you! Most of the CC are knowledgeable but a lot were not and would not answer your question and always use the term "Go to your resources on had" which only meant research the information on the system research tool which hardly ever worked and I would always get an error message when trying to research the information I needed. Then there are the Sup Calls which they never want to get you a Supervisor if a customer asks for a Sup you better get them a supervisor that means they have already dealt with agents and aren't happy, a lot of CC want you to continue to handle an already upset customer, then they want you to offer a coupon that they can then in turn use on another online purchase with the company they are already upset with, it doesn't really help the situation when they just want to talk to someone higher than an agent that could possibly help them get a resolution. It is a VERY Stressful job especially around the holidays when people are suppose to be so cheerful and happy and they are nothing but evil, mean, verbally abusive, and unappreciative. They are continually changing systems and do not give their employees enough time to learn the new system because the system ends up never working correctly!

I worked for Teletech for three short weeks in Aug. of '09. The job was repetitive and ###ic-- directing customer calls to proper departments for a big-box electronics retailer we'll call 'Big Box'. Big Box decided that customers would rather hear a human say, "Thank you for calling Big Box, how may I direct your call?" than follow simple automated prompts. Each call lasted < 1 min. which made for very tedious work. Worse than that, the supervisors were into micromanagement. If you were on aux mode (not receiving calls--like a pause button) for over a minute or two you'd get a call telling you to get on the phone which made me feel like a child who couldn't be trusted. Chat was really annoying; nothing productive or useful there. I think the most useful thing about chat was during slow times, team leads would suddenly type, "who wants off for the rest of their shift? First four people to respond get to leave."

In summary, I really hated this position. After three weeks, I received a call from another at-home company I had applied to a few months prior who offered me a position as a dsl (internet) support tech. What a world of difference! No micromanagement and you kinda have to use your brain which is nice.. I am still employed by the same company today.

Teletech has multiple accounts, but if you get offered to work on 'BB Compass' (may not even still be available; unsure) don't do it unless you like mind-numbing work that most companies utilize automated systems for. Teletech as a company is legitimate but based on my experience, I think the accounts and work they offer is for idiots who probably couldn't handle much else.

Teletech was actually a company here in Brandon, FL then it went out and APAC is there now. Teletech has been a long time company here in FL area for many years before I got here. They just got wise and went with virtual representatives which I think other call center employers need to get wind of. It is so much cheaper for them to work employees from home in the long run. No workers compensation (since you are in your own home, not on company premises), no cubicles to buy, etc. Any wise manager knows this.

From what i know as yet, Teletech@Home is one of the few legitimate
opportunities to work from home, making the pay to start quite appealing for many obvious reasons. I have no problem with acquiring a headset or with the software needed to do the job. They clearly tell you that your system will not be affected, that the program runs from the disc. They should expect good call control, they are under pressure to control costs, like any business. Call centers everywhere do the same. It makes sense. Great opportunity!

I am a recently hired TeleTech employee. It has been an overall positive experience. Love working from home. I save quite a bit of money on gas and eating lunches out. The headset is about 130.00, and when you leave the company they will buy it back from you if it is in good, working condition. They have, so far, paid on time and as promised. The work is inbound customer service. No sales. No gimmics. No fees for training. I did find that the training was inadequate and we have all had to do a lot of learning on the fly. Still, this is a real job with a reputable company. So far, I am glad to have it.

I am very happy to say so far I have passed all tests and requirements. Tonight I passed the CD test to make sure my system met their requirements. Which happily it did! I pay for DSL monthly for years, my computer is rarely ever shut down, and I've considered buying a headset anyway for months. Whats the problem hun? No extra expenses here. As for the 8.50 per hour...did you not listen in your 2 hr interview? If you had you would know that is "starting" pay and increases are a part of the deal. As for being rude, I didnt have Whitney, however, my interviewer was "stern and to the point" but I would never call her rude. She had a job to do, a limited time to present a lot of information, and a lot of people in a conference call to control and keep from talking all over each other. I personally am thankful that I have finally found a legitimate company that allows me to work from home. This has been my dream. As for the 8.50 per hour?...well no more gas driving to a job, no more eating lunch out, no more having to shop regulary for nice clothes (in my case I wore uniforms that I had to buy) and in my case, I traveled with my job which meant not only lunch but breakfast and dinner also were an expensse for me. So the money I am losing in salary I dont really consider lost as I spend much more than I am losing working away from home! Thank you teletech is all i have to say :)

I currently work for Teletech and love it. They are a great company to work for and I am very appreciative for the opportunity to work from home. I searched for a long time to find a legitimate job opportunity working from home. Most of the jobs are scams. I am a full time college student working towards my Bachelor degree in Computer Information Systems-Web Development and am just about done. The software that is used while working for Teletech is run from a CD. Your personal files, memory, email and anything else on your computer is absolutely inaccessible. You obviously have no experience with working for them or using the software or you have no computer knowledge whatsoever. The CD runs the Linux OS on your computer only for the time you have the CD running. It simply gives you access to the network used to interact with the customers.

As far as having to pay for your own DSL bill, didn't you already have an internet bill to pay anyway? Or were you still using dial up? Running your computer doesn't raise your electricity bill much at all. Computers don't use a lot of electricity. I no longer have daycare expenses, my gas expense has dramatically decreased and I am home for my family. My electricity bill has not increased at all over the past few months since working for Teletech. I did have to purchase the headset, but so what? I didn't have to purchase a uniform or wear one for that matter.

As far as contracting a virus from the network, it is virtually impossible. The network is extremely well protected. They have customer's sensitive information to protect. You're more likely to get a virus surfing the web.

You sound like a bitter ex-employee who couldn't hack it at Teletech or perhaps turned down for the position you sought. Teletech is a reputable company and one of the only work at home positions that are legitimate. Whitney was also the interviewer who conducted the group interview I was a part of. You have to realize she is conducting a phone conference with up to 50 people taking part. She has to control the environment for the simple reason that 50 people would be talking over each other and getting nowhere. She was not rude or insolent, but in control. As you stated above, there were still people speaking out of turn.

Don't blame Teletech for having to downsize. Blame our current President who doesn't understand how to turn around a failing economy or create jobs. Get over your bitterness, get a life and get educated about what you have to say before you say it.

After 7 years working call center for DHL, you just have to know that a lot of callers are not going to be happy campers. Call center work is not for everyone. You need to become the actor. You need to come across as empathetic, upbeat, and understand that even if there is absolutely nothing you can do to help this poor person, you have to make them feel that you tried. I used to hear agents complain everyday that they weren't getting paid enough for this. I didn't see anyone holding a gun to their heads to stay there. I have no sympathy for people who complain about a job or employer this way. If you don't like the job, find a job you like.

I am proud to say I will possibly have a 3rd term working for Teletech. There wasn't an abundance of “hidden costs” to myself.
1) In any job you pay for your own electricity while you work at home. It's the same amount you use to regularly to view television or operate computers.
2) You dog gone right, that you pay for the entire DSL billing with no reimbursement from Teletech. Why would they pay for it? You've beenpaying for it all along. It's clear on their website when you apply.
3) You use your own computer to handle Teletech’s accounts... they arenot going to ship you one. How could you think they would allow you to borrow a system for business use? What if you quit, or are terminated... Money loss. and they system they provide, a linux external operation is like a shell cd... It doesn't access to your personal files and emails.
4) I may have contracted a virus through Limewire, but not Teletech. All my systems run fine.
I had a group interview for an Teletech @Home CSR role and on the website where I applied it clearly stated it was Part time.
Teletech's wage is $8.50 an hour. What is expected? $20.00. $8.50 is good for part time. Some companies pay cents per call and their training isn't paid. Teletech has that advantage.
Purchasing the Teletech approved headset for our new job in order to “move forward, ” is not unordinary. How do you expect to do the job? i wouldn't buy the device unless I got full notification I was accepted and hired. It is offered to be purchased and debited from your paychecks in increments...In fact, Amazon and Walmart sales the same device for almost half the price. Besides...it can come in handy... You got to be resourceful.
During the initial meeting candidates you do not install Cisco Unified Presenter in order to allow our desktops to be shared with. It is not permanently on your computer...You may need to install Java which works with multiple components... But "Meeting place" is a web program.
And what luck is it, that I had Whitney as well. She was very resourceful, only dictating to some that their background noise was interfering with the call and they needed to be muted. but she was well versed and explained everything pretty well.
My group interview was on the 19th...
