very flawed evaluation of autograph
Steven Zarelli either has a bad memory, or he has adopted the morals from his employer RR Auction.
Several years ago, I sold an oversized signed photograph of James Lovell. I met James Lovell in Florida and this 11 X 14 photograph was purchased at the Book Store and signed there along with a few copies of his book. I sold the photograph on eBay and the buyer got an opinion from Zarelli that this picture was not authentic. Ebay refunded the buyer and this buyer never returned the photograph to me.
Now, nearly eight years later, this photograph is up for sale on RR Auctions item #6202 auction April 2016. This time this picture comes with a Steve Zarelli Certificate of Authenticity. What a punch in the stomach this is!

This cornball thinks he is a space autograph expert but he is not an expert at all. He is a pill. Everytime I buy a space related anything on eBay, this Zipper 68 spams me with his unwanted expert opinions regarding my purchases. This Steve Zarelli Space Cadet needs to blow. His emails are nothing more than harrassment and in some ways I am embarassed for the guy because each email convinces me of just how ignorant and green this guy is regarding space, space history, and space collectibles. He has nothing of value to offer and the emails are full of untruths and ignorance.
He always has his nose up someone's backside . Annoying and In Your Face kind of guy
I don't ask for advice on collectspace any longer because Zipper always responds and I just do not trust his opinion. He is just too full of himself and he is an "attentioholic" .
cyber stalker
Zipper68 also known as Steve Zarelli Ethics Chair for The Universal autograph Collectors Club needs to mind his own business. Steve Zarelli tracked down my contact information and he sent me unwelcome emails waring me that the Apollo 11 group signed photograph that i bought on eBay for $ 9.99 = $ 5.05 Shipping is an autopen. Like DUH ! I knew it was autopen when I bought it but Steve Zarelli is prepared to do battle with the person that sold me the photograph. What I buy on eBay is my own business. I am happy with this photograph. I know a machine signed the crew's signatures and I am fine with it. Steve Zarelli has a nose problem. He is like a GD Traffic cop. Steve Zarelli can go screw. MYOB !
While Steve Zarelli was reading comic books, eating potato chips and drinking his soda pop ...I was in an SU-24 and I went to places that would make zarelli P his panties !
I trust PSA over Zarelli. His evaluations are worthless
I am somehow reminded of the busy bodies at the check out lane at the grocery store that will critique the items in your shopping cart, like it was any of their business.
Why not stalk someone who buys a FORD because you think they should have bought a LEXUS ? Kind of stupid. I did a Google search on Steven Zarelli and he appears to be obsessed with astronauts and seems, to me, to consider himself on the same level as the astronauts and his "Astronaut Role" is being a "Space Handwriting Expert" which gets him the same level of attention as the astronauts. My Humble opinion as stated is based upon the complaints that I read.
Kind of snobbish to pick on someone for buying an "Autopen" example. The exports have their noses high in the air these days. You bought a very nice piece and ignore the idiots .
You are correct in what you say What you buy online is certainly your own business . It sounds to me as though this Zarelli wants to be your hero or he has a big ego or both. You knew the photograph was signed by a machine that imitates the handwriting of those astronauts and the price was reasonable. If Zarelli is harassing the person that sold it to you then they might think you are behind it. You need to contact your seller and also contact eBay and state that you do not know this Zarelli person and that he is out of line. Ebay calls this auction interference
Steve's biggest flaw is sticking his neck out without checking the facts

space authentication
I purchased several items from RR Autograph auction. All of the items came with COA, s (Certificate of Authenticity). Most of the certificates came from the well known PSA-DNA of California. I find it very unfortunate that the two items that came with Zarelli Space Authentication Certs have many miss-spelled words . What kind of authenticator puts together a certificate with spelling mistakes. Unbelievable ! What ever happened to "Spell Check" ? I thought an authenticator would have an eye for detail.
A majority of Zarelli Authenticated stuff end up being rejected by PSA (check online complaints), I find it hilarious that Mr Zarelli claims, on his web site, that he Authenticates for PSA and yet PSA rejects many Zarelli Authenticated items.
There are some names in the authentication field that just about everyone will recognize. PSA/DNA, James Spence Authentication, and Global Authenticators. Dealers try to use these names to sell their autographs. If the autograph you are looking at has been authenticated by one of these companies, then "it must be real". Wrong. These companies and others like them have been abusing their privilege for years. All have "D" ratings with the Better Business Bureau for not returning your item, damaging your item, or sending back a different item among other things. Most importantly, they do not know how to authenticate. JSA has been caught on television twice authenticating fake autographs and on numerous occasions have authenticated reprints and stamped signatures (two of the easiest fakes to spot). PSA authenticated a check stating it was genuinely signed by G.A. Laurell (Laurel Tape & Film. Inc, ), but the signature was actually George A. Romero (Director). How did the signature make it through "extensive research and database comparisons" when it wasn't even his name? There is no excuse for a mistake like that, yet they refused to take responsibility. (Thanks to www.autographalert.com for this information). Some 3rd party authenticators have even been caught taking money from dealers to authenticate their forged autographs, while some are notorious for rejecting authentic autographs obtained by fans.
Collectors are beginning to realize the waste of money that 3rd party authentication is. That is why Global Authenticators filed bankruptcy. I am sure more are to follow. You do not need to rely on these companies when purchasing an autograph. You only need a little of your own research to determine the authenticity of the signature you want to purchase.

A year ago michael collins did a private signing with novaspace. I bought four of these at a cost of about $ 300 each. I sold one online for about $ 450 which gave me a small profit. The buyer returned it claiming it was not authentic based on a zarelli opinion. Everyone is entitled to an opinion but just because he gave an opinion does not mean that it is true and correct. My customer had a certificate from novaspace and yet he paid an additional $ 50 or more to zarelli. My opinion is that steve zarelli should keep his opinions to himself

Just Google "Steve Zarelli Complaint " and see all that comes up. He is a guy who knows everything about everything. So Annoying too.
I recall back in the 1990's Steve Zarelli was at the forefront of BEANIE BABY identification and authentication. He wrote a BEANIE article about the type of thread TY used on real Beanies and how that kind of thread is hard to find and the fake Beanie Baby's has a different weight and color of thread used to sew the parts together. Steve used to write excellent articles because he would actually take the Beanies apart and put all the parts under a microscope. He had a great eye for detail and he was an inspiration the Beanie Collectors all over the country ! He is a very smart man.
In defense of STEVE ZARELLI I beg to differ . I have many items in my collection that were dissed by PSA and Steve took the necessary time to review these and give them the time they deserved and as a result Steve was able to authenticate these pieces for me. I would not hesitate to recommend Steve Zarelli. PSA rejects a lot of pieces because they have an objective that goes beyond the realm of integrity.
Zarelli is not my first choice for authentication.
He is Grinning from ear to Ear because he is making serious BANK on his opinions !
This does not speak well for steve zarelli's "Opinion business " . I have seen a few complaints on the net about Zarelli and a few other "exports"
I bet Steve would have passed your Michael Collins Autograph in a heartbeat had he known it was from NOVASPACE, but he had no clue. Yes, everyone is entitled to an opinion but an opinion is very different than authentication . Your buyer was charged money for an opinion and you lost a sale.
fake autograph on ebay
I won a neil armstrong signed fdc on ebay. it came with a steve zarelli space authentication certificate of authenticity. I liked the autograph very much, but the c. o. a. looked like that of an amateur computer designer and I wanted something more official looking. to my amazement, after send the armstrong autograph to psa-dna, they rejected it. I have a letter stating all the problems with this autograph. I was totally bummed!
I do not understand why people endorse steve zarelli, because he certainly does not understand very much I n my opinion! I send the zarelli coa, the letter from psa-dna, and the ebay invoice with item number to ebay in a complaint that I filed

I used Zarelli to authenticate a very rare example of Gemini astronaut signatures on a JFK lithograph. All were genuine except for the Young which was an autopen. Zarelli easily set apart the signatures and verified each one individually, and also came with a certificate stating as such. I know RR Auction use Zarelli for authentication and I can see why. Top notch service!
He does not know what he is doing but he is an expert at it
I have collected Autographs since the year 1971. I met many celebrities over the years .
I have become very knowledgeable of Autographs over the past 47 years of collecting as well as selling historic philography.
I stood in line for an hour back in 2001 in order to meet, and have books signed by GORDON COOPER The title of these books, LEAP OF FAITH These books were all purchased new, they were First Editions. The cost of these books was $ 25.00 each. There was no extra charge for having these books signed. Gordon Cooper signed these books in front of me. The Bookstore Employees helped me carry the books to my car. I purchased quite a few !
I sold one of the Gordon Cooper Signed, First Editions of LEAP OF FAITH online. The buyer returned the book to me 30 days later because she sent the book to Steven Zarelli, of Balliston NY for an opinion and a Certificate. Mr Zarelli sells opinions .
Mr Zarelli rendered his very own opinion that the book was not authentically signed by Gordon Cooper I accepted the return, plus I paid for return shipping of the book.
While Mr Zarelli broke no laws and he did render an OPINION. This was indeed an opinion. Mr Zarelli is very good at selling opinions, in fact when it comes to selling opinions Mr Zarelli is the very best. Very best. I will agree that he is the best opinion seller that I know of.
I am unclear what his opinion was actually based upon. I find it incredible that anyone would pay for an autographed book and then pay an additional fee for an opinion on authenticity. My buyer returned the book, but was out of pocket the opinion price with no item to show for it. This deal lacks common sense .
This is not the first time that Steven Zarelli sold one of my customers an opinion on a signed book, or anything else.Over past decade Mr Zarelli has given condescending opinions on dozens of signed books that I have sold. Several years ago a customer refused to return two items that Mr Zarelli had a negative opinion on. A return of an item is a reasonable request. That customer engaged a credit card charge back with Discover Card and the customer kept the two items. This was the only time that I was ever cheated in a chargeback. Most customers are honest enough to simply return the item(s) when they want a refund
I am attaching photographs of the Gordon Cooper Signed book that was returned. Readers can form an "opinion" for themselves.
A Nova Space purchase of John Young that I. Sold, was returned by Zarelli. Nova Space. Had this signed in person Nova Space has An A1. reputation. Zarelli is a wannabee and never will be
Zarelli's so-called expertise falls into question when bad examples surface on eBay with his home made, home printed Certificate of Authenticity. I recommend buying from reputable dealers that offer a written guarantee and buy the best items you can afford from such dealers and don't waste $ 100 on a worthless COA and instead spend more on the item and buy from established dealers. Zarelli is not going to refund your money in 5-10 years, in fact the fine print on his COA's have a legal disclaimer that clearly states that the document only represents an opinion and that no guaranty of authenticity is offered. Buy smart and do not waste money on third party COAs, buy from UACC Registered Dealers and put your money toward buying a great item rather than wasting $ 50-$100 on a document that merely states an "Opinion" from a disinterested 3rd party. A third party that will not refund you if their/his opinion is in the toilet !...NOTE: Steve Zarelli Authenticates for an Auction house in Amherst New Hampshire and that very same auction house is facing legal issues for alleged selling forgeries from [protected] .
If you take time to read one of the Zarelli C.O.A.s, you will find spelling errors. Enough said.
It is my opinion that, next to outright forgery, the third party certificate of authentication is the biggest on-line scam there is. Find a reputable autograph dealer and collect autographs the right way
PSA is not always correct, but they have a better track record than Steve Zarelli . I have seen a number of Zarelli signed certificates with many very sketchy looking autographs on ebay . It's a shame .
Inaccurate autograph findings
I have an autograph that I bought from a seller on ebay and it came with a zarelli space authentication certificate of authenticity. There is however a clause along the bottom that states that the document only represents an opinion and has no legal remedy about authenticity. I have since received a conflicting opinion from another expert. It is too late for me to open up a case in ebay and the limit of time for a refund has also passed and I might be stuck with a bad autograph. Yes these authenticators should be licensed.

THE MOST BESTEST EVER !
The Zarelli COAS make fine TOILET PAPER
If Neil Armstrong passed away in 2012 then how did he sign a postal cover with a 2015 postmark ? Not judging just stating. Does Zarelli wear glasses ?
“Mr. Zarelli is certainly the finest authenticator in space autographs. He uses an amazing amount of personal experience and references to ensure he gets it right every single time. Steve Zarelli is also one of the nicest people on the planet and is the gold standard of authentic space autographs.”
— Sean Monaghan
“Steve Zarelli helped settle a huge issue for the U.S. Space Walk of Fame Museum!
Steve was chosen due to his long-standing reputation as an expert in the field of astronaut autographs. Steve did a thorough investigation and, not only deemed the signature to be authentic, but also provided detailed documentation to back up his findings.
Steve’s authentication settled this issue to the satisfaction of our buyer, and Steve refused payment saying he was happy to help our organization.
Steve Zarelli is a class act all the way.”
— Charles Jeffrey
My Name Is Ian ...As a long time autograph collector, I know its tough to find an authenticater that you can personally communicate with and who will give you an honest and expert opinion. When it comes to Space Authentication, Steve Zarelli is truly the best out there. I would use no other! He has integrity and is highly respected in the autograph community having helped steeer collectors away from forgeries for years. I really couldn't praise the gentleman enough. Thanks Steve!
This man has a way of attracting the "NEWBY" collectors. Seasoned collectors are adults and they have knowledge of their own, so they do not need a hoaky printed out sheet from Zarelli to prove anything . The Zarelli COA just shows these young and less seasoned people do not know enough about autograph collecting to come to their own conclusions. Authentication and COAs will soon be worthless sheets of paper as the bottom will fall out of the authentication boom. When the authentication boom resides, you will never find these "Authentication Firms" again. All those folks will be into new careers. Future collectors will throw out the COA's as they will have no meaning at all.
Si le garçon américain zarelli pilotait un avion de marche sur la surface de la lune, il souillerait ses couches. Toilettes garçon américain
THIS IS WHERE ZARELLI COAS BELONG !

Back in the late 1990, s the bookstore at KSC used to sell those lithographs . Most were just signed by Lovell but they did have a few signed by Lovell, Borman, and Anders .
Zarelli pleases the LEAST SEASONED COLLECTORS. He has a wide audience of the ignorant
Steve Zarelli is a Fork Truck Operator at GE and he rights the Employee Newsletters too
He started out as a noted BEANIE BABY expert ...I am not sure I see the connection between sewing and handwriting. He can think on his toes and he is very good with people Steve can be very convincing VERY CONVINCING . I personally think he just likes attention and people that have the least amount of common intelligence make up is captive audience. Do you think Bob Bachelder, Mary Benjamin, or Joe Rubinfine would have ever gone to Steve Zarelli for advice ? Of Course Not !
He can talk and he can impress but he lacks experience ...very ignorant people praise him
That is the problem with AUTHENTICATORS and EXPERTS. People forget that his expertise background began in the 1990's with BEANIES and he jumped on the bandwagon and became a renowned expert overnight. He is a good BSer .
