Soderburg Roofing & Contracting

Richard came out on a cold call to get some business. He asked if he could check for hail damage and went up his own ladder, took pictures, and told me there was nothin wrong with the roof. He said if we need anything in the future, just give him a call. So, I called him 2 weeks later to ask for help finishing an addition. He not only hooked me up with a great builder who actually listened and did the job RIGHT, but he also put on the new roof for the addition in less time than it took the county to look at the permits. We're excited to work with Richard and Derwood again! They're the best group of people we've ever worked with on a project, and they came all the way from Greeley every day until it was done! After 3 years of trying to hire someone in Cheyenne for the same project, it's just... thank you for everything!

Complaint: Soderburg Roofing & Contracting LLC did more harm than good to my house. We had to hire other contractors to fix the damage caused by them and we want our money back. Here are the problems we faced after Soderburg's repairs from the hail storm on July 5, authorized by *** Insurance:

1. Skylight: They removed two old skylights and put them back in without following proper procedures. They didn't even bother to get a permit as required by the county code. This led to water leaking through the roof due to the absence of proper cladding. One of the skylights also has a faulty blind, and there are noticeable gaps between another skylight and the house below it.

2. Deck: Soderburg applied a "heavy duty" solid stain called DeckCorrect when it was too cold outside, and they didn't let the deck dry properly after pressure washing. As a result, the stain started peeling off just two months later. We're not even sure if they used the right product.

3. Vinyl siding: They didn't replace the vinyl siding correctly, and it's already showing signs of peeling off. They used nails instead of screws for the fascia, and some nails weren't even fully hammered in. This means the installation won't be as durable, and water can easily find its way in. They also didn't replace an insert for J-channel or fix the deformed J-channel, opting to hide the issues with caulk instead. Three other contractors confirmed that these practices are far from professional standards.

4. Dishonest billing practices: When we showed them pictures of worn flashing, defects on the deck and J-channel, and proof of over $4000 worth of work that hadn't been done, Soderburg demanded over $5000 from us. They included items on the invoice that were never completed, threatened legal action and collections, and even used an email address that didn't accept responses.

5. Whenever we tried discussing charges and the quality of their work, Soderburg either disputed our claims or offered to redo the subpar work.

6. Their warranty clearly states that it doesn't cover anything caused by other trades or contractors, which renders it useless considering the documented deficiencies mentioned above.

7. There are also several minor issues, like painting and staining, that we had to do ourselves because Soderburg neglected them. They also hoped we wouldn't notice mismatched nuts on lights and other small details.

This was supposed to be a beneficial situation where Soderburg would fix the hail damage and we would have our property repaired. However, it's evident that Soderburg is dishonest (despite what they claim on their website) and specializes in poor craftsmanship. They shouldn't have a good rating from the ComplaintsBoard.com, and clients should avoid trusting them with their property.
