I agree, here is my experience with them - I will never buy from Sam Ash again due to their horrible packing and customer service. I received 6 orders so far that were not packed with any protective materials or it was just set on top and the equipment was smashed at the bottom of the box. Some items were supposedly new and had been previously opened/used/scratched/b-stock? Otherwise the equipment was broken/damaged due to improper packing. Contacted them numerous times - originally talked to the shipping manager and was assured that my orders would be properly packed. Got last package with crushed software boxes and scratched discs. Left messages, emails. No response back, I have returned items over and over again and after my last batch of emails, just got a generic response from the President of Sam Ash. No apology or any resolution to the problems. Will shop at G.C. or any other store/on-line mail order but NEVER AGAIN AT SAM ASH!
If you buy pro gear online you are stupid. If you can't touch it in this business then it might as well not exist. I have been shopping at my local Sam Ash for several years, and the sales staff there has knowledge surpassing any guitar center or music retailer I have seen. Just like any retail store, if you need help, or have questions, just ask someone. I work in retail, and am amazed at the level of patience the guitar salesmen have at my Sam Ash. I know it is not the same at every location, but in Charlotte, I will spend my money where the guitars are clean, and the staff is happy to inform me. Thanks Charlotte SamAsh for making believe in music stores again.
Don't believe me, go ask Martin...he is THE guitar Guru.
i work at sam ash in clearwater florida. we have over 600 guitars on display! to judge a chain of stores based on an experience at one of them is ill advised. i walked into a GC and was there for 45 minutes and nobody even said hi. if you feel you've been mistreated at any store you should go to a manager. plus GC is owned by a huge corporation that also owns Target. Sam Ash is family owned and operated. I have personally met Richard and Sammie Ash and they very nice real people. comparing GC to Sam Ash is like comparing apples and oranges.

Well Mr Travis Powers at Sam Ash Clearwater your comments are not a surprise being that you have a biased view consederomg where you work. I do not think it would be in your best interest or you employer's to tell a negative truth. I am sure Rich and Sammie Ash are cool to you. I have meet the CEO of both Targer and GC they are both cool people. Just because it is a corporate store does mean that they are evil. I know plenty of family operated business that are horrable and I must say Sam Ash fits right into that catagory maybe not your store but most stores in CA are terriable. GC is not much better but at least they let you walk out of there store with free broschures that they distribute. At least when a price tag in incorrect they correct it. Sam Ash employees right away claim that the tag was delibertly switched. At least GC does price matching with no questions asked. Sam Ash makes a big deal and does not want to budge. At least GC allowes you a product return and the gift card that was given at the time of purchase is still a gift instead of me having to return it with the product that I am returning. Considering that my summary of the two stores I would have to agree that apples and oranges is what we got here.
I work @ Orlando, FL Sam Ash and we do price matching all the time without any hesitation. We give discounts on products and super instore discounts on special items that can't be published. You can return your item in 30 days without any problem and 45 days exchange, 60 days price match and they give you a extra dollar. We have hundreds of guitars on display and ready to be tested and acoustic drums also. Here in Orlando we want to make the sale and we will do anything to get it. I won't trash GC because I know they have a lot of honest people working a 7.50 an hour also trying to make a living. I know that some of GC stores are new more fancy, but we have been around since 1924...we must be doing something right. Come checkout what it is...
