The FTC just ruled unanimously against Learningrx, a company operating with various offices in Northern Virginia and North Potomac, that has deceived hundreds of parents out of millions of dollars. Learningrx is finally going to implode after years of defrauding desperate parents seeking help for their children with special needs. It has done this by...

LearningRx Company mislead employee

The owner and the management staff at this location were very nice, the training that we did I think was beneficial for these children, however, I do not feel like they know how to run their business, and how to communicate with their employees. At this particular location, they required their employees to attend monthly staff meetings, or else they were told they would not receive their bonus. The staff meetings were full of long inspirational videos, and lectures on how to better your own life. They were rarely about improving your job as a trainer, updates in procedures, about the kids, or really anything that couldn't be covered in a newsletter. Changes were then made to how bonuses were conducted, without informing the employees in writing, and the changes basically resulted in little to no bonus for all the work an employee put into training a child. The bonuses are now calculated based on how well the child tests in comparison to a national average. Some of these children have severe learning disorders, autism, ADD, ADHD, and even if they did show improvement in school as a result to our help, but they didn't test well, you wouldn't receive a bonus. You have to hope to be paired with a "smart" student that tests well, in order to receive a bonus (despite all of the hard work you put into working with the child). The tuition is not cheap either, so you wonder where exactly that *$5, 000 goes (I know there are many costs to running a business but trainers make only $15/hr, and they are the heart of the business). Customers/students get some great training by really patient and fun trainers, yet the trainers are mislead, underpaid, and will waste a lot of their time with this company (not the kids, we love spending time with them). I feel that they should have voiced this a little better at the start of training a new student, or right when the changes occurred. I was just informed of all of these changes today (5 months after I finished training the child). I had been trying to email and call the company to ask when I would be receiving the bonus, and they kept ignoring my emails and phone calls. I understand I sound like a disgruntled employee, and I probably shouldn't be writing while still upset, but I feel that many of these trainers (who are training part-time as a means of a second income), are too nice at this center to speak up to this company. I feel like if I don't share what happened to me (and I did tell the director how I felt over the phone), nobody will...even if it is on some complaints website. *I'm not sure how much the programs cost, we are never told what parents pay for the programs (this also makes commissions for retaining a student a little shady because we have no idea where they are getting their numbers from; we just have to trust we are getting compensated properly when we refer a child to the program); I gathered this number from what I read on other complaints on this website.

I work for the national home office, but also help with our local center. Trainer bonus pay varies around the country but is based on student results AND parent rating. So when a student gets both good test results and parents give a high rating, the trainer is given a bonus. If a student starts with low test scores this is also taken into account for the trainer bonus. I believe that we are very generous with our trainer pay and they can make more based on a certification process and observations. Trainers love what they do and their compensation is discussed with them up front.
