Hillside SPCA reviews and complaints
Would not return my dogs to me nor return any phone calls!
Hillside, SPCA had received my two dogs due to my ex taking the dogs from me and he happened to got pulled over and the cop on duty could not get a hold of me at the moment so they took my dogs to the SPCA. Both dogs in my name both dogs mine and they would not give my dogs back. My dogs were taken care of, I treated them like my children and my children...

My husband and I recently adopted an adorable pitbull there. We went to see the dog and all that. Well my husband signed the adoption papers and like any spca you have to agree to random visits without notice that's fine with me. Well I wasn't there to pick the dog up my husband was and he wrote all his info down and me as an emergency contact. Well all the people that I didn't meet there the one day i went are looking me up on facebook and used the info my husband gave them to find me and it creeps me out . None of them sent him a request. Just me . And none of them knew my name it was only on paper so what does that say. You can just use someone's info for anything ?

The whole place
For a place that is supposed to help animals find a loving home they treat you like an idiot for wanting to adopt one. I am a stay at home mom of 2 children, own our home, have a dog who is at the vet regularly for check ups, who we pay health insurance for every month and buy him 70 bags of dog food bc he has food sensitivities, goes along with us everywhere, sleeps in our bed, is a huge part of our family!. Needless to say I consider ourselves pretty good pet owners.
We took the decision to get a cat very seriously, we did our research, got everything ready, got a cat tree, litterbox, cat bed, ect..even installed a cat door from kitchen to laundry rm so she could have her own space. We decided on a kitten so she could grow up with the children and be used to being around kids.
Back to the shelter, we've been there several different times looking everytime the lady in the front is very rude and short with you. When we went this past time we were sent to their small rm the one lady eyeballed me up and down like I ran a cat slaughter house. We spent an hour or so picking out a kitten, when we went to the other space there are cats everywhere sneezing, puss in their eyes, one cat was even bleeding from its nose.
The lady who is usually in front office asked what I was looking for when I said we def want a kitten she huffed under her breath and says "Well that's not gonna happen!" I must have looked appalled and she goes "we don't adopt kittens to any one with children." Really!? Maybe you should have told me that BEFORE we spent hours there. I couldn't believe the ignorance in her voice like what was I thinking trying to adopt an animal from her shelter... silly me...that's what I thought it was there for.
We drove right up to ruth steinhart in pine Grove, and adopted a kitten. the cats were clean and very well taken care of, the people were so friendly and helpful, it was a great experience!
On a side note my parents adopted a cat from hillside a yr ago when they took her to vet she had 105 fever, ear mites, and was severely matted.
Also when I was in there with my 4yr old one worker went on to yell about the "[censored]"all over the place.
I was fuming when I left, the worker in the cat section is just extremely rude. Bc of her a kitten there missed out on a very long happy life :/

Some people complain about Hillside SPCA because they have been investigated multiple times by them for abuse. The person who posted this on facebook has been found guilty animal abuse with dead cats lying around the yard. She is afraid of Hillside SPCA finding out about the other dead animals on the property. (westpennliving.wordpress.com)

I was turned Down Twice to Adopt a dog
I went to the HIllside SPCA in Pottsville Pennsylvania, (TWICE) to adopt a sheltered dog. I was turned down ! (TWICE) The Worker named DAYNA, was very ugly and nasty to me. I had a friend with me at the time, so have a WITNESS. When I went to the shelter to see the dogs, the worker named DAYNA said, (Go Home, Go online and Fill out an application. You May...

I recently bought two kittens from this place. The first thing that hit me was the overwhelming smell of uncleaned litter boxes an there were many of them. As I was looking for a kitten I found that they didn't separate the unhealthy cats from the ones that were healthy an no one told me that the kittens that I held had ringworm! They are supposed to give them their first shots but instead the just deworm an give them a flea bath and act like they are doing them a great favor. One of the kittens that I bought ended up having a very serious upper respiratory virus that was caught from when he was there because as I said before they do not separate the animals when they are I'll. Someone should go there an do something about the deplorable conditions. If we ourselves treated our own animals like this we would be fined, charged with animal cruelty an our pets taken away! There are plenty of workers there so there is no reason for that facility to be in that condition. The woman in charge sits behind a desk an acts like she does everything but if you were to step beyond her office you would become sick from the smell! There are many cats, that are sick an as long as no one goes an checks on them there will be animals who will end up dead or on the verge of dying like my little kitten. I guess when push comes to shove the SPCA doesn't practice what they preach because if they truly care they would investigate this place with no notice given. But I fear that I am wasting my breath on this no one will ever look into that place an make it a better place for all the animals there.

Anyone who judges a shelter, but doesn't offer their help as a volunteer, should be ashamed. The people running these places do the best they can with their resources, which are few. It's easy to [censor], now pick up a scoop and a bucket and start cleaning! While you are at it, pay their bills for one month and earn a salary you can't live on. Adopters are part of the process... Yes take the cat or dog to the vet, now pay that bill times 100 animals. We all do the best we can. Every animal you help is a blessing to the shelter, the animal, yourself and the system. [censor] about the person that dumped their pet on the side of the road, not the exhausted, already overcrowded shelter that took it in.
I totally agree with that post. I never thought that SPCAs would actually treat animals in such a way.
It's disgusting. What them cry out that there is no funding but I stopped by that place an it was exactly like the SPCA commercials where they do ask for donations to take care of animals. And they do mix the contagious animals with the healthy ones. An the odor is horrendous an it only seems to with the cats an kittens I didn't dare go into the dog shelter part. I assume it's just as bad as the feline shelter. Somebody should do something about this an that some should be the SPCA an I would go unexpected. The woman in the office had the nerve to act as if she did everything an when I adopted two kittens she had the nerve to call almost everyday as if she cared. Because if she cared she wouldnt allow the facility go to pot. I took my kittens to the vet because they had a cold an it turned out that the vet said, it was because of the unclean conditions an my kitten could die from the respiratory infection.
These places are suppose to honestly care for these animals. But as many have said, they do not. They don't know how to treat an animal. From the moment you walk into the building where they house the cats an kittens. You are hit with an odor of dirty litter boxes and if you happened to see one it would cause you to gag. It is no wonder why these animals are constantly sick with ring worm, or respiratory viruses. They do not give them their first series of shots as they are suppose to. It is deplorable conditions someone should step in an do something about this shelter. How many complaints will it take before someone from the SPCA steps in? If it were you or I we would be charged with animal cruelty, fined, an we would lose our animals. Why is it alright for this shelter to be allowed to treat animals this way? I'm beginning to wonder if SPCA really cares what happens to animals. Heaven knows I have seen numerous commercials where they beg for donations. I think it's time they actually paid a visit to this facility. They not only put the animals at risk but the customers who come to adopt their animals. They don't separate the animals an they don't tell you that you are holding an animal that is contagious myself an family had to be checked. They are irresponsible there is no reason for that they have many volunteers to help keep the place clean but there is feces everywhere. But I am beginning to believe that the SPCA doesn't really care an that is why places like this get away with it.
lying and fruad
this spca is lying to people about dogs they have lost, when the people call to ask if there animal is there they say it isn't and it is, what kind of a place thats intended to help animal's does that, I believe the spca should take action and look into this matter, It disgusts me to have a place for helping animals do such a terrible thing to good people who love there animals!!! HILLSIDE SPCA IS A JOKE
