September 25, 2015 Chartwell's Dining Service at Salem State University North Dining Hall. The person making the sandwiches there, began making a sandwich for me. He asked what dressing I wanted, did not tell me what they had there. I guessed and requested ranch dressing. He picked up a container, which has an open tip. He poured out a bit onto his finger...

Chartwells Dining Service Working Conditions at Chartwells Dining Service on the campus of Truett McConnel College

I was fired for a mistake I made in ringing some one up. I readily admitted that I made the mistake and attempted to rectify it and was not allowed to by Ron Pearlstien. There had been 2 previous incidents in which I was able to show that I had not cost the Company any money and that the error was in the register. These two incidents, plus the mistake made, were used as reason to fire me. I feel that the fact that I was not allowed to correct the error at the time it happened, was yelled at in front of students and faculty, and was required to work the rest of my shift was unfair. My termination took place the next morning (18 hours after the incident)
The working conditions at this location of Chartwells Dining Service are inhumane. The temperature in the Dining Hall averaged in the mid 80's most days with the hottest being 91 on the day of the final incident. As a cashier, I had to stand at the register for my entire shift with no breaks, bathroom or to take a drink of water. We were forced to clock out by a certain time and then finish our chores off the clock. One employee even has had her time card altered to remove time worked after the specified quitting time. I observed that all employees including myself, have been yelled at in front of each other and in front of customers. All employees are expected to obey all of the 6 supervisors in place even when all six give you different and conflicting directions and methods. I saw no evidence that anyone 'in charge' had had any management training.
