NRG Heating and Air Conditioning Wednesday night the house heating system stoped working, worked just fine the night before

Wednesday night the house heating system stoped working, worked just fine the night before. Thursday morning i called NRG, talked to Kenny and he set me up with an appt for that afternoon. John was the tech that came out, very knowledgable and went right to work. Found the cause/reason for the problem, replaced the igniter and all was well again.

NRG Heating and Air Conditioning I was really impressed with Alec

I was really impressed with Alec. He was super polite and honest, and he did a really thorough check-up. I'm gonna request him for all my future needs. I've had some problems with NRG before, and it looks like they gotta work on their PR based on the reviews below. But this review is just about the job Alec did today. He seems really pumped about his job and he takes his time to check out both the furnace and the air condenser, even explaining the steps to me. I thought that was pretty cool.

NRG Heating and Air Conditioning I wanna complain 'bout dis 4 TON SPLIT SYSTEM GMESXXXXXXBU I bought on Jul XX XXXX

I wanna complain 'bout dis 4 TON SPLIT SYSTEM GMESXXXXXXBU I bought on Jul XX XXXX.
Da agent (John ***) gave me a diff'rent amount dan what I got when I got da loan agreement.
When I first found out 'bout dis, I called Mr. John *** at NRG company, and he said he gonna call me back afta checkin' da issue. He neva did. I think dis ain't fair 'cause dere's $5612.12 in finance charge. He kept sayin' da total gonna be $9591. He even mentioned a senior discount, so we thought dere was a promotion wit 0% interest. I'm real disappointed wit how he sold us da system, hidin' da fact dat da final price gonna be more dan 50% extra.
I sent a letter to da company 'bout dis matter and neva got a reply.

NRG Heating and Air Conditioning I've had nothin but bad experiences with NRG

I've had nothin but bad experiences with NRG. They always reschedule appointments, last week I had a maintenance appointment to seal and remove mold from the unit. I got a text sayin the technician would be there in 45 minutes so I waited (keep in mind this was a rescheduled appointment cuz mold wasn't a big deal to them) but I never heard anythin from the technician after the text. I called the office 2 hours later to ask about the technician, they said he already been to the house, did the work, and called the landlord for payment. He took pictures of the work that needed to be done but they don't have the pictures of after. The invoice was over $2,000 and I still don't have any peace of mind that the work was actually done. The technician never rang the door bell to let me know he was here to start the work or to say it was done. I've been tryin to get in touch with Management, they never call me back. Finally, I got a Manager, Gene, to contact me back and he acts like they're doin me a favor. I ain't never gonna use this company again. So, buyer beware.

NRG Heating and Air Conditioning Be aware of the old bait and switch

Be aware of the old bait and switch. After measuring my attic, negotiating on price, and completing the contract, NRG realized they underbid the insulation removal and reinstallation project. Keep in mind they only realized this "mistake" of theirs an hour after they were supposed to arrive to complete the project! Rather than honor their commitment and create a new long-term customer, they offered to complete the work at a cost of 125% more than the agreed upon contract! David W. and Michell T. had several opportunities to rectify the situation during the contract stage, but due to their own poor estimation and empty promises, the project will now belong to a more reputable provider. I find it highly ironic that directly below the cost estimate, NRG's template states, "...we are very proud of the relationships we have built with our clients. Our business thrives on referrals and word of mouth and we would be very grateful if you would take a moment and post a review." Here you go...Take your business somewhere else with more capable staff and who honors their commitment.

NRG Heating and Air Conditioning I had a really bad experience with this company

I had a really bad experience with this company. I bought a Gold membership for my units, which was supposed to include 2 yearly services. The first service came and the technician quickly checked the units for less than 5 minutes. Then he came inside, changed the filters with poor quality ones, and said he was done. I was surprised at how fast it was, but didn't think too much about it. The second service appointment was rescheduled by the technician, but eventually he came and did the service. He then told me that the unit needed some repairs that would cost around $1,000. I agreed to the repairs and we scheduled another appointment. He came back, did the repairs, and at the end, he asked if I knew I had another unit. I was like, "Of course I know! Didn't you service both units last time?" He then told me that the paperwork only mentioned one unit. I called the office and a guy told me that my membership was only for one unit. I couldn't believe it because when I bought it, they specifically said it included maintenance for BOTH units. Every time they come, they always try to sell me expensive things like an air filtration system and a power surge protector, even though my whole house runs on solar electricity and I pay almost nothing for electricity. They're always trying to get more money. But today was the worst. I don't trust this company, and you shouldn't either.

NRG Heating and Air Conditioning Be very aware that this company overcharges!

Be very aware that this company overcharges! I'm a mechanical engineer and even though I'm not a certified technician, I've been working on fixing common issues with air conditioning systems, water heaters, blowers, pool pumps, pool mechanical systems, electrical systems, and home security camera installations for many years. I own several rental homes and usually do the work myself. Sometimes, I have to call in a company for work that I can't do or don't have the equipment for. I always do my research beforehand to educate myself on the background so that I know more when the contractor gives me their conclusion, repair method, and cost estimate. When I found out that the attic heater blower wasn't turning on and I heard a "hummm" sound, I knew it was either a stuck motor or a bad capacitor (which is the more common issue). I've replaced many of these capacitors on air conditioning units before. The capacitor gives the motor a push when starting up. I couldn't remove the cover of the attic heater to check the capacitor (you look for swelling, corrosion, wire burns, or signs of overheating). So, I decided to call NRG Heating and Air Conditioning because their ads claim they're the best, number one, and have been in business for over 33 years.

Now, let me tell you what happened. First, they responded quickly and said someone would come the next day. What I didn't know is that they sent me a three-page agreement in an email the following day. If you take the time to read it, you'll see that they charge 2 hours of labor for any service call. Can you believe that? They don't even tell you the labor rate! The technician arrived and basically forced the cover off with a screwdriver (I was afraid of damaging it if I tried that). He quickly told me in 4 minutes that the blower motor needed to be replaced! I mentioned all the checks I had done and asked why it wasn't the capacitor. Did he check the microfarad reading or resistance? Did he check if the secondary winding on the motor was burned out? What about the commutator brush blocks being too worn? The technician then asked how I knew all this. He simply pulled out a replacement capacitor from his bag, snapped it in place, and everything worked. It was just a bad capacitor like I suspected and asked him to check. He spent a total of 30 minutes and then went to his laptop to give me a bill for over $300! What! I questioned the cost and mentioned that the capacitor costs under $10 and a service call is usually $75 to $125. He said the company sets the capacitor rate and that he would remove the labor charge. But the bill was only reduced to $250! I reluctantly argued but paid with my credit card, hoping to dispute it later. Then, he noticed that I hadn't signed the email contract agreement and wanted me to sign all the pages. If I had taken the time to read it, I should have declined to sign anything. Then I could have argued the overcharge.

Please be aware of this company. I tried calling their customer service representative, but she never called me back. I will never call this company again, and I won't refer them to anyone either. A fair price would have been an expensive $125 service charge (still high) and $10 for the part. Before calling a contractor, call another company and ask about their service call and labor rates. Use the internet and YouTube videos to educate yourself about common problems, causes, fixes, and reasonable costs. Be more informed!

NRG Heating and Air Conditioning Attic heater furnace. Furnace would come on and shut off in a few minutes (safety feature when no blower comes on).

Be VERY aware that this company OVER CHARGES! I am a mechanical engineer and although I am NOT a certified technician, I have been working on simple fixes to many common problems on Air conditioning systems, water heaters, blowers, pool pumps and pool mechanical systems, electrical systems, and home security camera installations for many years. I own several rental homes and perform most of the work required. Occasionally, I will call in a company to perform work that is outside my field of knowledge or because I lack the equipment required. I always do my research beforehand, however, to educate myself on the background so that I am more informed when another contractor is giving me his conclusion on the problem, method of repair, and estimate on time and cost. When I discovered that the attic heater blower was NOT coming on, I heard the characteristic "hummm", and realized 1 of 2 things was the result. A stuck motor unable to rotate the armature, or a bad capacitor (this is the most common problem of the two). I have replaced many of these on Air conditioning units. The capacitor gives the motor a "push" on start up. I could not get the cover off the attic heater to look at the capacitor. (you look for swelling of the terminal plate, excessive corrosion on the terminals, wire burns or signs of over heating due to current surges, etc.). OR... just replace it because this part only costs between $3 and $12. I called NRG Heating and Air conditioning because all their ads say they are the best, number one, in business for 33 years of more, very professional, etc.
Well now I will tell you what transpired. First... very good response, guy would be there the next day. What I did NOT know is that they had sent an email the following day that was at least 3 pages of an agreement. If you take the time to read it, you will find that any service call will charge you 2 hours of labor! Are you kidding. They don't even tell you what the labor rate is!
The guy showed up, basically popped the cover off by prying with a screwdriver (I was afraid of damaging the cover to try that), then quickly told me in 4 minutes that it was the blower motor and needed to be replaced! I mentioned all the mechanical and electrical checks I had done and asked why it wasn't the capacitor... after all, did you do a microfarad reading or resistance check to see if it was open, if all good... did you check the secondary winding on the motor to verify that it was burned out... what about the commutator brush blocks being too worn (another inexpensive fix)...
The technician then asked how I know all this. He simply reached in his bag and pulled out a replacement capacitor and it snaps in place, and everything works. It was just a bad capacitor as I suspected and asked him to check right off. He spent a total of 30 minutes and then he went to his laptop computer to give me a bill for over $300! What! I challenged the cost and mentioned that the capacitor costs under $10 and a service call is usually $75 to $125. He said that the company sets the capacitor rate and that he would remove the labor charge... but the bill was ONLY REDUCED TO $250! I reluctantly argued but paid the credit card amount hoping to dispute it later... THEN... he noticed that I had NOT signed the email contract agreement and wanted me to sign all these pages... (my mistake here... If I took some time to read I should have declined to sign anything). Then I could have argued the overcharge.
PLEASE... be aware of this company. I tried calling and got their Customer Service Rep. "Michelle". She agreed to go over the the charging policy with the manager and also to check why they charge soooook much for a $10 part that anyone can buy from the internet. 10 microfarad, 370 Volt capacitor. Look at a company called DIY. They stock all components for these systems and others, or order anywhere on the internet... you will get a price of under $10. Well... Michelle NEVER tried to call my back. Not phone message or email.
I will NEVER call this company ever again! I will NEVER refer them, either.
A fair price might have been an expensive $125 service charge (still high), and $10 for the part. Call another company and get their costs for service calls and labor rates FIRST. Use the internet, youtube videos, etc. to get knowledgeable about common
problems, causes, fixes, and reasonable costs before calling a contractor. Be more informed!... Jay

NRG Heating and Air Conditioning Awful attitude and the company doesn't want to correct their mistakes

OMG. The company NRG Heating and Air Conditioning is terrible. They have installed their heating system in my house, but there were problems with it. I emailed them and called every day, but in response I received only unreal promises. I called 10 times per day, and once the representative called me back and started to yell at me. I was shocked, because it was the first time, when someone yelled at me as this man did.

NRG Heating and Air Conditioning Scam

They came out to clean my ducts for $45. Once there the price went to $575. Then they told me I needed a new condenser (lie) and sold me one for $3739. It didn't work. They came back numerous times, couldn't fix it, and finally said it's working fine. When I told them to come and get their condenser, they threatened to file a lien against my home, then sent me a fraudulent preliminary lien notice. The unit they installed was not the size they promised and they would not stand behind their guarantee. I have a portfolio containing 30 documented complaints against them, all very similar to mine. These people are no good.
