defective $2500 door
One star not low enough, The quick ship door they sent took a month. The glass on the door is dirty on the inside and cannot be cleaned. The door itself has indentations from being strapped on a pallet. This door is not usable. They will not issue a refund. Their excuse is they don't have to because I bought a clearance door. Really? I ended up buying trash...I so wish I just went to home depot instead of trusting these rude and obnoxious people. YOU CAN NOT STAY FAR ENOUGH AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY. IF YOU PATRONIZE THEM, THEN SHAME ON YOU IF YOU FIND THIS OUT FIRST HAND. Better than one out of 10 reviewers share the same story. That's a lot of people. Spend your hard earned money someplace where they appreciate your business and will stand behind what they ship.
external door - customer service
Issues with Nicksbuilding.com and the complete and the abusive and non-existent customer service attitude
Order was placed with https://www.nicksbuilding.com/ for Entrance Doors with Multipoint Sidelight Options for a total of approx. $3, 600+ total for a new home build. It was discovered on or about Sept 24, 2018 by the production team there was a flaw in design which with having the full sidelight options flanking both sides of the door caused severe instability in the doors. Recommended going with the ¾ sidelight option. Once that was communicated the orderer contacted the company for alternative options and was told in no uncertain terms that the either the order needed to be cancelled or she would be expected to pay an additional $200 on top of the already $3, 600+ invoice. When she expressed concern, she was told it was escalated to the ‘manager' who was the sales person's brother. When asked to speak to the owners, Orderer is told "no way is that going to happen EVER, they don't speak to ANY Customer' under ANY Circumstances. Last - They were going to upcharge from the original pricing that is published on their Website from $350 per to $450 and she was going to have to deal with it.
Multipoint Sidelight Options
Venting Sidelights with our patented Multipoint Sidelight Locking Mechanism
Virtually un-detectable from the outside our fully operable sidelight gear incorporate a stainless steel locking mechanism with a Rosette Thumb-turn operation on the inside. Rosette finish choices are Satin Nickel or Dark Bronze(shown).
Price: fullview $250 each, Half-view $350 (a quality feature that cost $1000's elsewhere if not available at all)
Includes: Multipoint Sidelight Gear, Rosette, Lock Plates, Hinges, Weather-stripping, Door Sweep and complete turn-key installation.
After the email (Sept 24, 2018 Orderer called and requested to speak to Mike (Manager) he state there was nothing he was going to do about the situation. When Orderer requested to speak to the owners to escalate the situation, she was told "They don't speak to ANYONE, it's like if you call Microsoft you are not going to speak to Bill Gates. So, no you are not going to speak to them and nothing will be done to resolve this situation". Mike was asked 3 times if $200 upcharge was worth losing a $3600 order and his response was of course it was… We are not going to do anything about this problem, so you might as well cancel you order. Then he transferred Orderer over to the account payable associate Whitney. Whitney starts screaming at Orderer that it will take AT LEAST 7 days to get approval for her refund and she is taking $90 as a ‘convenience fee. Orderer stated that was not acceptable and she was not going to pay the convenience fee. Then she asked Whitney would she be contacted on the status of the refund and was told very aggressively and loudly GO AHEAD AND CALL ALL YOU WANT I'M JUST GOING KEEP TELLING YOU THE SAME THING, don't bother calling me. When asked who would be approving the refund, Whitney loudly and aggressively and stated that she was NOT going to give that information and it was none of Orderer's business. THEN stated still aggressively that Orderer was NOT going to get the refund check and it would go to the Title Company, Orderer completely agrees and has no problem with going in that direction. After Orderer hangs up - Whitney contacts the Title Company speaking to Kathy. Whitney informs Kathy that Orderer has demanded the refund check is sent to her NOT the title company, this is a complete and utter lie told to the title company. Title company contacts Orderer to discuss the issue and it is discovered the falsehood Whitney has communicated and determines the unprofessional, abusive and aggressive behaviors apparently supported as a work ethic at this company is extremely pervasive. Do not order from this company if you would like to receive any type of customer service.
doors service
Dishonest:
They promised doors in 6-8 weeks, upon week 8 I received an email that they suddenly discovered a hug production delay (another 6-10 weeks) due to a fire which occurred nearly a year ago!
They didn't return my calls, upon finally reaching them they were not nice. I told them I would complain, to which they responded that they have a way of dealing with me.

i could manage to add the item to my cart but i couldn't check out, the site was giving error for about 45 minutes, after that it showed that the product was sold out.
Excellent product
I have been in the new construction business for over 30 years. I came across Nick's building supply about 3 years ago and I have recommended their doors on all the homes I have built. I have found their doors to be exactly as they say they are, a high quality, excellent workmanship and the best customer service I have had the pleasure of dealing with. The doors arrived as scheduled and they were created in such a manner that the doors were almost impossible to be damaged. I was able to open the crates and install the doors with ease. Dealing with Nick's will always be on my list of companies to do business with whenever I needs any type of wood door.

Major problems with custom ordered door
Buyer be warned before purchasing from Nicks Building (NB)
It was a huge and costly mistake ordering our new door from NB. We are still dealing with the problem 1.5 years later!
We ordered a custom door in November 2010.
Our contract stated that "Custom doors take 12 to 14 weeks". Our order took 25 weeks. We thought the massive delay was the biggest problem we'd have until the door arrived.
The contract stated lift gate service was available for $75. When it came time for shipment, NB denied us this option due to the door being 8ft tall, this was never called out during ordering. We had to hire a forklift truck ourselves.
Once we opened the crate we discovered a whole new set of problems.
After waiting 6 months for a specific glass for the door we find that Nicks Building put the wrong glass in the door!
In addition, the door was of substandard quality with rough areas where it had not been properly sanded prior to staining and finishing. Also, there were small holes or gaps. Overall it was a poor quality prep and finish job.
The weather stripping was not shipped.
The red oak trim at the bottom of the door sill plate was split.
The door did not open/close smoothly. It was sticking where the door and jam meet.
We contacted NicksBuilding immediately to remedy the situation. We had a whole crew on-site that day to install the door to prevent it from holding up the entire project any longer. It was immediately apparent that NicksBuilding was not going to be responsive. This left us in a very difficult predicament. We had no real option but to go ahead with the install of the door and have NB replace the glass, sticking, send the weather strip and pay for all the door repairs after the door was in place.
NB was unresponsive for approximately 2 weeks until we filed a claim through Visa to seek a refund. Once they knew Visa was involved they contacted us and said they would take care of the problems. They said the glass would come from overseas and take another 12-14 weeks and they would take care of all the other items that needed attention once the glass arrived. We accepted their offer to remedy the situation in good faith and understood it would take a while to get resolved but would turn out well in the end if we were patient.
After 2.5 months, NB contacted us to say the glass had arrived. They wanted us to get a quote from our contractors to do the install/repairs.
We provided the details to NB. At the same time, we received an email from NB informing us they were getting ready to crate and ship the glass to us and would get a tracking # and expected arrival date.
Shortly after, they came back indicating they wanted to send out their own contractor to put a quote together since they were not happy with the quote we provided. It took NB an additional 2.5 months to send out a contractor to put an estimate together.
It took yet another 2.5 months for NB to say their contractor dropped the ball. They only got back to us since we re-opened the dispute with Visa. Visa agreed we had given NB enough time to investgate the associated trademen and credited us the amount to cover the labor cost and sent a letter to NB requesting NB to ship the glass, sticking etc.
Nicksbuilding is still refusing to ship the glass & other items.
In summary, it has been more than 10 months since NB received the replacement glass. During this period we have continued to be cooperative and extremely patient in an effort to reach a successful conclusion to this situation.
We held off posting a negative review of NB but at this stage we feel it is necessary to warn others to avoid this kind of nightmare, stress and frustration, not to mention the time, energy and costs we have incurred over the past year and a half dealing with this company.
We will continue to seek resolution of this problem through Visa and other means as necessary. Companies like this should not be allowed to stay in business if they treat their customers this way. Unhappy - CA
I have used Nick Building on multiple orders and have been thrilled with their customer service and the quality of the doors. Although the situation described sounds awful I think it is a rare exception.

Poor customer support and unhappy with product
My order for my doors for my new home was over $12, 000.00. From the start there were problems with the doors. I had issues including missing parts, glue marks in the finish, drilling issues, they didn't finish the doors to their specs. and wood splitting all within the warranty period. I've never received the run around like I did from this company. I would never deal with them again.
It shows them from Crown Point, Illinois and it should be Crown Point, Indiana.

doors failed on warranty
I have purchased 2 interior doors from Nicks Building with jambs and moldings, everything stained. The order arrived on time but then the story began.
The trim was suppose to be oak (clearly stated in the order), but it was some lightest wood I've ever seen. I complained - they were surprised the oak trim even got ordered, because they don't stock it anymore. They refunded me money - good, but why nobody raised this - instead they silently sent me the wrong thing.
Another surprise. The website claims they manufacture the doors in their facility, but my interior mahogany doors have a stamp - "Made in Malaysia".
3 months later after installation. The doors dried out at the room temperature (I guess it was very humid in Malaysia) and cracked. About 1/16'' to 1/8'' on multiple joints. I called to complain, sent pictures. Manager was surprised - mahogany doors usually don't crack and asked me to wait few weeks to see if cracks will close. I waited 2 more months - they did not close. I called them up, they asked for more pictures. Finally after not responding for few weeks I got a hold of manager and he claimed this is normal for the doors. Opps. Why don't they just dry the wood before making the doors?
Would anybody order a door knowing you will see a crack after a few months? I wouldn't.
Just consider this when you order from this company.

I think I got lucky. I was about to order a door from this horrible business, but when I complained to the "operations manager, " John (who claims to be part of the family that owns the business) about the rude, surly, condescending, incompetent salesperson, Elizabeth, he unleashed every insult he possibly could on me, while YELLING at me, and told me he would never sell me a door. I was stunned. These people are the most unprofessional, rude, nasty people I think I have ever encountered in business. Please do yourself a favor and spend your money with a company that respects you and appreciates your business. No one deserves this kind of treatment. If people continue to patronize this business, they will continue to mistreat others. So please find another place to shop to spare everyone the agony (just look on these comments, and on Yelp... that should tell you everything you need to know).
This place is something else. There is definitely something wrong with the underlying fundamentals of the business. They have delayed for months now taking my order stating a problem with the Wind Testing Certificates for Florida delivery. I have picked different options that have been approved only to find that they do not fufill the hurricane certification. But the sales guy never calls back. He has BS's me so many times and never calls or emails back. Will go elsewhere. This place does not want your business.
Very unreliable fabrication and delivery time. Freight company was even worse. We build custom homes and would love to use their products but this system is definitely NOT worth the hassle, money or time! Try Uber doors instead.
MC builders
I just want to personally express my appreciation for not only your product, but your attention to every detail. A couple of days ago I got a follow up call from John just to ensure I was totally happy with my purchase. My initial apprehension was paying many $$$ for a product "sight unseen" off a web site. My contractor tried to talk me into a steel or fiberglass door that had the look of wood. Guess what? Those in the style I wanted were over $1000 more! He even stated that for custom homes, like mine, mahogany was the way to go...but too expensive. He could not believe his eyes when he saw the crate arrive and looked at the door. He immediately asked for the web site to Nicks Building.
Thank You for the beautiful wood door.

I Bought my doors from Nicks Building Supply, or nicksbuilding.com over 4 years ago. The Door have held up over the years. However, recently, our new family puppy scratched the doors heavily. Not knowing what do, I called nicksbuilding.com for some advice on what to do. They transferred me over to customer service. The guy wanted me to send him pictures of the damage & he will "get back with me". It took some time, but he did contact me back. He told me that they will send me out a stain touch up kit to the color they have on file & I should receive it in the mail. When I got the stain, I called back in not knowing what to do. Pete walked me through all that I needed to do. He was very nice and patient with me & I fixed the scratched doors & now they look just like new :)!
-- All in All I am very happy with how they helped me -
We had a bad experience too! We bought three garage doors and a front entry door. The doors arrived crated up and there was no damage to crates. We left them in the crates to protect them until we could install them. On the day of installation we noticed damage to one of the garage door panels. We notified Nick's right away and they told us to send pictures. We emailed pictures and the following day they notified us that they wouldn't stand behind the door because we installed it and it was a used door. They told us we should have crated the entire door and sent it back to them. They even accused us of causing the damage. This company will not stand behind their products and have an excuse for everything. Do yourself a favor and buy local and pay a little more for the peace of mind. They sell cheap because they never stand behind anything.
My experience was no better. Mahogany door & trim purchased and it faded, cracked, split.and I got no satisfaction from Nick's. Will never use again or never recommend them to anyone! $7000 wasted. Will replace with a better company, I hope! Will read reviews before I purchase anything again!
Believe me I had the same type of issue happen only worse. Same type of doors only mine not only split, I had some that were drilled wrong, glue stains and missing parts. Your lucky you only had two doors. I bought over 20 from them at a cost of over $12, 000.00. I will include a picture of the splitting and one where you can see how the door was drilled wrong. The spacing is clearly off.
I have never had a worse experience with a vendor and couldn't agree more!
I've built many custom homes and this company gave me the run around like no other company. Trust me if you have an issue with their product and you get treated like I did, it will be months of battling. I believe their policy is to drag it out until you give up.
Do yourself a favor and stear clear. I think they have a few different websites with different names. If you are purchasing doors from Crown Pointe Indiana, I would be very sure it's not Nicks Building Supply,
Double Door
Three months ago I bought a double door from this company and I explained the new door will replace a old door the sales man John asked for the dimensions of the existent door which I provided after remove the molding I major the existent door “Single door with two sides lights”. He told me that the door is a standard door but since I am replace a single door by a double door, the new door must be customized on width. I agree to pay the extra to customize it. Also before I do the deal I asked about the complained find on this site, he explained that was a old complained and since then they modified the process of construction and the new doors have no complains and they are 100% warranty. When I got the door, the installer check the dimensions of the pre hung door was short on width 1 and 3/8 inchs and on high 7/8 inch. When I call complaining he told me that I must speak with Jacky and also told me to send an email with the difference in dimensions which I email photos with the tape major and the differences to [protected]@yahoo.com also I email to [protected]@yhaoo.com . when I call Jacky he told me that the dimensions was wrong and they all the times give a gap of 1/2 inch to install the door I complain that the dimensions ware correct and the gap was more than ½ inch. But the nightmare does not end here two months later when the summer storms with heavy rain hit the door, I could not believe what I was seeing, water was dripping inside through the panels immediate I call and again John told me to take photos and email them which I did also Jacky call me asking for photos from the front of the house which I email to him, then in telephone call he told me the door was not finish correctly, the door was not protected against storms since I do not have a covered porches and many other excuses. No warranty was provided. I was naïf to believing on sales person. Now I have to spend thousands of dollars to cover my house porches. Whoever reading and plan to buy from them be advised they are a company with no standard or any regards to the costumers, and anything they sale is garbage.

Doors are falling apart!
I purchased a Mahogany double door entranceway from Nicksbuilding.com for $8000.00. Two years later the door is falling apart at the seams. I have never seen an exterior door perform so poorly in my life. I understand that wood doors will show wear and tear and that you run the risk of expansion and contraction with a natural wood product but a sheet of CDX plywood lying in my backyard for 2 years is holding up better than Nicks doors.
I called their customer service department and was informed that the door is out of warranty and there is nothing that they can do to help me. Their warranty last only a single year on the doors but they never provided any warranty paperwork. My first mistake was assuming that there was a standard door warranty with their products. My second mistake was purchasing from a company that does not have any customer feedback on their website.
I was told that the door failed because I have Pella storm doors in front of them. When I informed the customer service department that the storm doors were just installed a few months ago, they changed their tune and said it must be due to a crack in the finish which resulted in moisture penetrating the door and I should have resealed the doors. First of all, any new door finish should not fail within the first 2 years. Secondly, I would have no problem repairing a substandard finish but I’m not going to do it in the middle of a Chicago winter when the temperatures are below freezing.
Every single seam in both doors is failing. The engineering of these doors is very poor. I advise anyone considering Nicksbuilding.com for doors to spend the few extra dollars and get your doors from a reliable source or in two years you may also have $80000 worth of firewood.
I ordered a knotty adler door from Nicks. The door came on time, however, on the top of the trim there was a large burnt out knot. Right on the inner edge of the trim and the actual door, thus breaking the seam and looking very unaesthetic, not to mention that if I need to sand this door: I will probably cut my hand when it slips in the hole. I sent them lots of pictures that clearly showed this. Contacted Customer Service and I was promptly told that the hole on the trim is not viewed by the company as an issue. They are supposedly sending putty and stain so I can attempt on fixing the hole on the trim, but one thing for sure: they lost my business and now I have a door that could have been so beautiful, but now I have a door that has a hole in the trim... If you can't personally pick the door in their warehouse: I would be very weary ordering from them
