Mags4Cheap review: No magazine - No refund! 72

This review was chosen algorithmically as the most valued customer feedback.

Ordered (4) magazines in March, 2007 and paid by "VISA' in the amount of $79. Two days later, charges were shown on my "VISA" statement. As of this writing, Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007 I have not received any magazines and I have not received a refund as they promised. Spread the word to all your friends and neighbors not to do business with them... I have made numerous telephone calls and sent many e-mails to no avail...

I should have known better... but it's guys like these that ruin it for all the other people that try to do business in a reputable manner. We should run them out of the country! I'm ready for a "Class Action Lawsuit" if anyone will join me.

Kindest regards,

Byron Hanson.

Ladies & Gentlemen -

I have been the absentee owner of Mags4Cheap.Com for years. I own several other businesses that occupy the majority of my time. About 3 years ago I handed this company off to a management team that has done a very good job of running my company to the ground. There was a time when Mags4Cheap was the best name online for magazine subscriptions. Obviously, that is no more. About a month ago, my own mother found the negative reviews about my company online and called me. I have since come back to Mags4Cheap, replaced my entire staff and am actively managing it myself. We have sold to more than 3 Million people, and although we have millions of very happy customers, there are nevertheless some very unhappy customers out there, including those who posted here.

I am here to reach out to any customers who have not either received their magazine subscription or a refund. If you fit in this category, you may email me directly at rbfallon@mags4cheap.com or call me directly at [protected].

I will personally investigate your issues and refund you if necessary.

I apologize for the bad experience you have had and I am here to make things right.

I finally received a refund today (11/3/08) for a magazine that I ordered last December. It is impossible to get a hold of anyone in the company, so I am going to publish the addresses that were on the check and the envelope in which it was mailed. I hope it helps out someone else who was ripped off by this company.

Mags4cheap (envelope address)
851 Dairy Ashford Ste B
Houston, TX 77079

Creative One, Inc (address on refund check)

I have had a terrible experience, too. Happy to join a class adction lawsuit against the company, if you're still planning it. It seems hundreds of people have been duped by this judging by a google search on the company.

I placed my order for People magazine on 12/18/2007 and after emailing Brian several time trying to get the magazine I got the same run around about the publisher not processing requests from Mags4cheap. Then when I asked for a refund they stated that they would send me a check. Now it has been 4 weeks and when I sent another email asking where my check was they responded with the same exact message that they sent me on 7/30/08 stating that the request was sent to a manager and a check would be sent to me. Now I have called and have been disconnected or left on hold for ever. The company has problems and are just taking peoples money!

I too have been ripped off by this "white-crime criminal" company. They promised a reimbursement total of $80.95 over a month ago for People and Popular Mechanics subscriptions that were ordered in Feb of 2008 and never received. Their customer service department is especially adept in lying rudeness and unprofessionalism. STAY AWAY from this robbery outfit!

I have failed to receive 7 gift subscriptions for Health Magazine and 1 subscription to Consumer Reports. These orders were placed over 6 months ago and Mags4cheap has been playing a cat and mouse game with me. When I email, they either reply that the email came in blank (but I copied it to my email address and the full message was there) and other times they say the order has been returned by the publisher because of an error with the processing (but the publisher doesn't know anything about it). Phone calls have not been returned and they refuse to respond to my requests for refunds. This is more than a $100 loss to me. This company should be shut down because they are crooks!

This is close to my experience, years ago, but occasionally able to reach a warm body then. Results weren't any better despite verbal promises. In the end I got a few subscriptions fulfilled, but no refunds, essentially paying full price for the subscriptions were received.

We've experienced the same thing with Mags4 cheap. Have been strung out for 6 months with a variety of answers. Magazine is in back order, can't deliver because we aren't getting responses from People Magazine. We will refund your money, which has been a joke in itself. Besides the check is in the mail trick, we've been told that we can't refund your credit card because our machine is down for routine maintenance, now it's past the 30 day limit on credits. Today we stand where we were 4 months ago with the money will be refunded in 30 days. I hope someone catches these thieves and throws them in jail.

I also ordered 2 magazines on December 17, 2007 for friends as a Christimas present. It is May 1st, 2008! and neither one of them have received their subscription. I called the company several times, left a message each time. No one has returned my calls. I've also emailed several times and was told that they were looking into the status of my account. See below. This is the last correspondance I received from Mags4cheap on 4/14/08:

Hello,

We have not gotten a response for the trouble ticket that we submitted for you. I have submitted an additional trouble ticket to the supervisor at the fulfillment center and I will let you know when I get a response.

Sorry for any trouble this has caused.

Thanks
Brian

I ordered 2 magazines December 4, 2007. Mags4Cheap doesn't return phone calls or e-mail, they ask that you wait 12 weeks, but it is too late to object to the credit card company. It is now April 28, 2008 and I'm filing a complaint with the NYS AG.

I order magazines for my nieces in Dec. Nothing ever showed up. I called the company many times and once got a live body and he said "what do you want me to do about it?" I called the magazines and they never received any money for my order. I'm thinking this guy has taken our money and run. I sent a complaint to the Houston Better Business Bureau. Maybe a class action suit would get the company's attention. Don't ever do business with them.

I ordered Forbes Magazine from Mags4Cheap last June. Have called repeatedly and been promised delivery and/or response. Have never received either or a refund. Very shoddy outfit and will never give them a new order.

Yep; MAGS4CHEAP rippoff here too.

Ordered people magazine; was told over and over again it's on it's way. Then was told I needed to give them 40 bucks more because the publisher raised their price. I said no; so they said they'd refund Friday Guess what; 3 friday's later, no refund.

Then they said; oh our mistake you'll get your mag but you need to contact People Magizine and see when it should be delivered.
I filed a dispute with Mastercard and hopefully I'll get my refund.

I have had a similar experience which amounts to a clear case of fraud. I am planning on filing a complaint with the FBI internet crime division. I think if everyone who has had money taken from them and not given anything in return by mags4cheap would file a complaint at www.ic3.gov/complaint, there is a chance they would be held accountable. They apparently are based in Houston Texas, so complaining to Texas authorities would also be helpful.

Same exact problem with Mags4cap. I ordered a Men's Fitness subscription in Feb 2007, and I'm still waitng. I contacted them within three months of my order date, and they said they would send me another subscription (in addition) for the inconvenience...I haven't received either.

Same problem with this company. Ordered mags 10 months ago, credit card charged promptly and haven't received an issue. Everytime I complain they "resubmit" order. They finally agreed to refund money... we'll see what happens.

I've had the same problem. Avoid Mags4Cheap! In August 2007, I ordered a 12-month subscription to National Geographic, which was supposed to start by 11/20/2007 at the latest. My credit card was billed immediately. As of 01/29/2008, the magazine still has not come. I have repeatedly contacted them by e-mail (there's no phone number). Each time, they say they'll look into it, but nothing happens. And the response to each follow-up complaint is clearly written by someone totally oblivious to all my earlier complaints (which I keep citing). They refuse to provide a refund. THIS IS FRAUD! They've taken my money for something they cannot deliver.

Wish I'd seen this before I placed orders with Mags4Cheap. What is the contact information for the BBB that oversees their territory, so that I can file a complaint? Thanks.

I am posting this comment to let the board members of this company know that I am one of the subscribers who paid my entire subscription in full, for the whole year but is not happy at all w/ the service, for the fact that I am getting my magazines 3 wks. late and sometimes not at all. The delivery should be actually on a weekly basis, so kindly fix this problem or you will lose most of your customers. In my case, I am not planning to renew my subscription nor order magazines from your company anymore.

I talked with a person I had been sending subscriptions to for the past 4 years and he told me he did not receive a single issue of his subscription last year '07. I have already resubmitted the order this year without knowing. I tried to contact the web site by e-mail and tried calling them using the phone # listed on the web site.. No responce either way. Where do I go from here?

On September 24th, 2007. I order a subscription for "good old days". paid for it with mastercard. Have not received the magazine yet.
I am very careful about ordering on line but sure thought this was a good company. old people get scammed like this all the time. Never again. I just got taken for $19.95. Guess i am lucky.

I'm in. There was an error message in my transaction, they don't even know what magazine I chose yet they still charged my credit card, Nov' 07. The BBB has over 230 complaints. How many do you need to classify them as crooks and shut em down? Let's do it together.

Oh, by the way, WAMU must really suck because I was aware that 60 days was the limit, but Citibank is challenging the charge after more than 90 days anyway because of the special circumstances that I told them-- Mags4Cheap doesn't even allow you to inquire until 90 days after they rip you off.

That's the EXACT pattern I had too. My first two orders went beautifully. I'm been waiting over 3 months for the third one.

Same story with me - ordered in Jan '07, no magazines, no refund. I'm up for a class action on this.

Same happened to me. I finally did get a response but no reimbursement. They said that they sent the order in to Popular Science so I had to deal with Popular Science. Popular Science said they had no such order. It has been a year and Mags4Cheap just sent me a renewal notice, even though I haven't received a single copy!
