I bought a boxes of Acuvue oasys 1-day max contacts from the target optical on Cottle Road, San Jose, California, 95123. I have been purchasing these contacts from the same store for years and have never had an issue. But the last box that I opened started giving me red eyes. At first there was no pain or irritation just some redness in my eyes. But as I kept using the contacts it became worse and worse. I decided to stop wearing contacts for a week and it got better. I then had to travel and thinking my eyes had healed I started using the contacts again and it again gave me red eyes in just 1-2 days of wearing the contacts. I have since stopped using contacts from this box. I ordered the same contacts from another location and have had no problem since. So I am assuming the issue is with this particular box and lot that was produced. Hence I wanted to file a complaint for J&J to look into this particular batch of contacts produced. See details below for the batch and lot info. I did try go to the store and tried to return the box but they told me to contact J&J directly.

Claimed loss: Loss is purchase price of 1 box ~$135

Desired outcome: A refund of the cost of the box or replacement contacts]

That sounds genuinely uncomfortable, and you were smart to stop wearing them and test another box. Call J&J Vision Care customer service directly and tell them you had a reaction to a specific lot. Give them the lot and batch numbers from the box, ask them to open an adverse event report, and request a replacement or refund. Keep the box and any remaining lenses. If your eyes are still irritated, see an eye doctor and mention the contact lens lot. You can also report it to the FDA MedWatch program, which is exactly for problems like this.
