We contracted with Bret Douglas of Ironclad Landscape Management to do some work at our home. He proposed redoing our irrigation system, trim some trees, pressure wash the driveway/walkway, clean up the beds, replace sod and maintain the lawn for a month. The agreed upon price was $2000.
He asked for cash up front for $1000 and the balance when complete - presumably after the month of maintenance was complete.
They trimmed the trees and left the debris piled up on the lawn, replaced some sprinkler valves, threw down some sod and mulch and cut the grass. Three days later, they asked for the $1000 balance.
When I mentioned that the job wasn't done yet, they said they needed to make payroll and not to worry, they would finish it as agreed. I foolishly paid them and then they went dark. Three weeks later when I called to find out when they would haul away the debris, do the pressure washing and finish cleaning the beds, Bret became indignant and claimed I was asking for free services. The piled up debris, killed a good part of the lawn, weeds were thriving in the beds, the pressure washing remained undone and the yard was growing out of control.
They totally lied to me about what they would do and I had to hire other contractors to clean up a good part of their mess. The dead spots in the yard remain and need sod, which I can't afford now and the weeds in the bed are growing out of control.

Stay away from Bret Douglas and Ironclad Landscaping! He is absolutely unethical and is just focused on obtaining money and not doing the agreed upon work. I later heard from others who experienced the exact same thing.
Very sad how he treats people.
