I bought a robot vacuum tonight 5/31/23 appx 10pm EST.
I found it through a google search of the best hard-floor vacuum cleaners.
I felt weird as I followed the various prompts to purchase the vacuum. Every time I felt a red flag from the situation something popped up to dispel or catch my attention further- which should have made me more suspicious, but...
I was looking to purchase & the product seemed to fit the specifications I was looking for.
Red Flags:
1. The price was rather low for what was being promised.
2. The ad offered 60% off
3. when I went to close the tab, a popup appeared offering a further 10% off.
4. when I clicked on pay through PayPal, a popup appeared offering a further $2 discount if I pay with Visa or Mastercard directly through the website.
5. The next red flag to me was the offer, after I completed the purchase through PayPal, of paying a further $3.99 for a mystery gift
6. The final red flag, after skipping that offer, was the offer for the 'robo vac pro' for a further $39.99 It made me second-guess what I'd just bought- because I was pretty sure that was the name of the actual vacuum. When I went back to look, I started getting more & more suspicious. There was no brand associated with the vacuum. The one listed (Robo Vac Pro) didn't bring up anything in a google search.
I decided to try to locate the maker of the vacuum through the terms & conditions on the website. The only problem was there wasn't any there either. The only thing that looked halfway promising was the email address listed for customer support- it had imoderntrends.com listed. I tried searching for the website without much expectation of success & found a basic website that provided little more than a buffer.
The phone number listed on both sites led to a voicemail stating no agents were available at this time. One of the sites stated that there were specific hours & after checking, I saw that I was past those hours...
After looking for reviews on imoderntrends.com however, I freaked out. It seemed like everyone was giving negative reviews.
After a minute, I thought about checking into the top5 website that led me there in the first place. I've attached a screenshot of their About Us page below. It would appear that the website was created solely for this product, which seems a lot of effort to go to... After looking around some more, it appears that every product imoderntrends offers has its own website. They seem to be deliberately hiding their name from the website as well. I sent an email to the address listed asking them to cancel my order. I don't know if I will receive a response.
The most concerning thing for me right now is the blatant contradiction that the return policy states. see screenshots attached
Desired outcome: Two options.They mail the product & it actually works. (if it doesn't work, a full return will be allowed as stated on the purchase page- not in the return policy).Or they cancel the order & refund me the full purchase.
Welcome to the club! In April 2023 I purchased online a cheap robot vacuum from imoderntrends. It performed dismally, got stuck frequently, and missed most of the floor. It was not worth even its relatively low price. I returned it following their instructions in May, and on June 6, 2023 was promised a refund in 5-7 business days. They never refunded anything (today is September 14). So, their customer service is as dismal as their product. I will never again deal with them.
Were you able to dispute the charge to them with your credit card company? Most companies will refund your money when you show them proof of the refund policy and your efforts to get your refund were ignored.
Just curious what the charge to your credit card listed the company name to be? If it was not Robo Vac or imoderntrends.com that is often an indication that they are hiding behind a shell company.
