its a know design issue that the kallax shelf unit has, they are the thin wooden dowels that are provided. they are required to be hammered into place to have a tight secure fit, the issue is when you try to disassemble for moving, these dowels break inside the holes.
ikea recognizes this issue and started making the new kallax shelves with thicker dowels, but they will not do anything for customers to bring back the old style due to un useability. the ottawa store refused to take it back and give a store credit, as it was pass the year mark. they even refused to recycle the pack as the manager said "they do not have a recycle program" so i was told to simply through it in the garbage. now this passes for customer service in 2019. shamefull.
