Incomplete work for renovation
I had Mike from Heartgold Homes out to quote a garage renovation. We went through the process, signed the contract, and began work in October 2022. I am still waiting for the final work to be completed which has been paid in full, and it is November 2023. Mike has ghosted me entirely. I've sent a formal demand letter with no response. Had calls from his subs telling me he hadn't paid them and would be taking him to collections. No matter how small your job is, go find someone else other than Heartgold. As far as I'm concerned, Mike Katz is a thief.

In November I received an email from *** (the owner) that they missed our invoice and we would have payment the following week. Since then our calls and emails go unanswered. The voicemail is always full.

HeartGold hasn't confirmed the testing like they said they would in our contract. They're asking for the last payment and put a lien on our property. Our group hired HeartGold to replace the concrete at our swimming pool in September . Right away, we noticed problems with how their employees acted professionally and safely. During the excavation, the employees didn't follow their own rules to keep the work site safe and organized or follow WCB guidelines. We have pictures and videos of one employee rolling their equipment into the deep end of the pool, which is a 3.1 meter drop. In February, we had a meeting with the owners to talk about our concerns with safety and the lack of supervision from their foreman. They promised to fix the issues, so we let them keep working. But even in the spring, there were still problems, like leaving a messy job site where kids could get into dangerous materials. We asked them many times to clean up, but they didn't take it seriously. They were supposed to use a pump truck to pour the concrete, but they used a wheelbarrow instead. They also broke a corner of the pool's edge and had to fix it with epoxy. When the job was done, I asked for proof that the concrete was tested to 32mpa and had air entrainment and sulfate resistance, like we agreed. But the company hasn't given us a proper test. *** is asking for the final payment, but I told them I won't pay until they prove the job was done right. Now, they've put a lien on our property and said we're refusing to pay them.
