This fall I was surprised to hear of the recall on Gree dehumidifiers. I checked, and sure enough mine was included in this huge recall. I received the recall packet and gathered the required stickers for their recall. I even cut the cord and sent them the piece in their envelope, as required.
Imagine my surprise when I received my recall check for $50 LESS than what I actually paid for the item. I immediately called GREE an discussed my concern with them. I was left unsatisfied as they said this was a set price for the MSRP of the item and there was nothing they could do. I explained that I have the actual receipt showing the price I paid and that it was from a big box store (which would have the lowest price) therefore I should be able to recoup the amount I spent so I can go out and buy another dehumidifier which I need since I had to send them the cord to the recalled one!
I was left with a "there's nothing we can do" and I am VERY dissatisfied. I am now looking to spend my $50 deficient check on a dehumidifier that is not powered by GREE, Frigidaire, Danby, Soleusair, Norpole, Seabreeze, Kenmore, Fedders, Fellini, or De'Longhi.
I am not usually one to complain, but if you have the receipt they should make good on it. This is a huge recall which is burning down entire houses...when people send in the required materials, they should be satisfied 100%.

You shouldn't count the amount of time you had use of it-- that entire time you were in serious danger of a fire!

I think that Gree is very fair. They paid me very close to what I paid for it plus I had the the use of it for two years. I also had a LG unit that was recalled and did not even get half the cost back from them which was a raw deal. I don't understand what they don't just replace recalled units with new units like Frigidaire does. It would only cost them wholesale cost for manufacturer but the customer would get full value. Seems like it would be a win win for both parties.

Why do you expect a full refund? The fair amount of refund should be less than what you paid because you got to use it for a period of time!
Let's use some common sense and not be greedy. Do you also want to be refunded for the time and gas you spent buying and returning the product?

My problem is different. After waiting 3 months for this check, Gree informed me that my check for $179.00 was mailed on May 9 and cashed on May 19. The problem is I never received it! Today they e-mailed me a copy of the check and guess what? There's no endorsement or bank stamp on the back-the back is empty! I find it hard to believe that someone would cash this without an endorsement. I'm smelling a rat here.
I'm still waiting for this to play itself out, but if they refuse to reissue this check then the BBB will be hearing from me too, along with the local TV stations. They just love stuff like this!

If you had use of the dehumidifier for a period of time before the recall, then I would imagine your refund is based on a pro-rated amount, meaning, you're not going to get the full price value of it because you did receive some benefit and used it for a period of time.

Another FYI, ...the BBB has many complaints againt Greer, so if you were one of the people shorted on your money. File a complaint. From what I can see, BBB is taking care of this matter.

Another unsatisfied customer here, in Houghton Lake, Michigan. We paid $231.00 at Home Depot, and we re-imbursed $169.99 by Greer. Many phone calls to Greer, with no success. Our local new station did a piece on the recall and the safety aspect. I notified them twice about the reimbursement only being the ''manufacturers suggested retail price", vs. what we actually paid. Hopefully others will contact their news stations too...maybe if this gets on TV in a lot of states Greer will ''feel" it. BBB also a good idea., will do that next.

I have the same problem - I paid $176.06 for a Soleus Air 70 Pint Dehumidifier from Home Depot in June 2012. My reimbursement check was for $189.00. Thanks for the advice to contact the BBB. I think I will do that.

Alright guys and gals, I posted earlier on this site and have an update for everyone, under the DAWIL. Anyway, I was so upset with how I felt I was treated, I contacted the Better Business Bureau in Indianapolis, IN about this company, Gree, and complained. I stated the same issues that we are all complaining about and the resolution I asked for was just to be given the additional funds to cover my $30, plus the tax. I sent in my complaint to the BBB sometime around late November, just before Thanksgiving. Well I'm happy to report that I received an email from the BBB today with an email to the BBB from Gree stating that they will provide me with an additional $44.30 to cover the costs to replace my dehumidifier. With that said, I'm encouraging all of you to do the same thing. Take the time to file a complaint with the BBB about Gree and hopefully you will have the same results. Goodluck to all!

Yep my check did not cover the cost of the unit. Was $5 short. However I can not get rid of the old piece of garage for less than $20! That leaves me $25 in the hole! I also called and complained and it did no good. I asked to speak with a supervisor and she (Michelle x7772 at the recall hotline if anyone cares to ruffle her feathers) did nothing to help me and actually hung up on me! I was being very calm and cool not raising my voice but I did ask repeated questions and most of them she would not answer! She would only say I can not give you the answer to that. I called the US government recall line and filed a complaint as well as the Consumer Protection Agency and did the same. This China company is treating us like we are Chinese citizens and I'm not going to take it. I guarantee I will not buy another product made by this company.

Same complaint here. I believe the problem is that Gree outsourced the recall, and the recall company has a "average cost per unit" for each model. The folks at GreeUSA point to the folks at Gree China, and the folks at the recall company really don't have an answer. It sounds like they've asked for one, but haven't gotten an answer.

The letter I received recently with the check said "Attached is the reimbursement check for your dehumdifier(s), returned to Stericycle in response to the Gree recall..." So the folks creating the form letter don't even know that this wasn't a return recall.

Contact whomever you purchased it from. Amazon refunded me the difference...plus the cost of disposing of the old unit properly. Now that is really impressive!

I just received my check from Gree/Stericycle and mine also was $50. short of what I actually paid, and I have my original receipt as well. Since I bought this from Home Depot, I am going to pursue with them and see if that gets me anywhere?

I agree 110%! I had the recalled Soleus model. Followed all instructions, cutting cord, model sticker etc. and my refund was $91 LESS than I paid for it! Disgusted and not even sure its worth me trying to call after reading the above complaints!

I will second the previous person's complaints! I had a Kenmore recalled and received a refund check of $30 less than what I paid for and for what it is listed at, retail price. I also called and complained, only to have them say, "I'm very sorry, but there's nothing else we can do." I asked to speak with someone else who could do something and the man, Mike, told me there was no one else I could speak to or that he couldn't give me any other information. I asked Mike (who said he was floor supervisor) if I could mail in a complaint or send something to the company at the Executive Dr, Suite A address in Indianapolis and he said, "I believe so, maybe". I asked him if that was a yes or a no and he said, "I believe so, that's a place to start." The lack of customer service for this recall is unbelievable...
