I live in Anchorage and this past weekend I took a trip to Fairbanks Alaska. On the way back to Anchorage I was picking up a puppy that I rescued from Wasilla, Alaska. While I was in Fairbanks I decided to go to the PetCo there (store #01147) and purchase a bunch of things I needed for the puppy before driving back to Anchorage (this was done in the morning of Sunday, 1/30/2022). I did this because I didn't want to have to drag the little puppy to the store right after picking him up from his fosters, I just wanted to be able to go home and have everything ready for him. One of the things I bought was the Stairway Gate. While leaving the store I left it at the register on accident. I did not realize until I was already back in Anchorage (about 6 hours away). I called the Petco in Fairbanks and asked if they had the gate I purchased and left, they said they did. I asked that is I showed the recite to someone at Petco in Anchorage proving that I purchased and owned the gate, if they could keep the gate I left in Fairbanks and I could take one from the store in Anchorage. I was told this was not possible. So since I had already paid for the gate and could not swap it out for a different one, I asked If I could get a refund so I could drive to the store here and get another one. I have the recite with the patching item number to the gate I paid for and the Debit Card number that I used to purchase it. I was told that it was not possible to refund me unless I was physically at the store. I told them I was now 6 hours away and they said they still would not refund me. So I asked them If I just lost $76.99, and they said it looks like it, unless I can drive 6 hours back up to interior Alaska to get a refund in person. I realize that this mistake of forgetting the gate I had already purchased at the register is 100% my fault, but I am frustrated that it is not possible to work with me and give me a refund or allow me to show proof that I have paid for and now own a gate that is still in the Fairbanks PetCo's possession and they won't allow me to exchange for one in an Anchorage store. I will attach a picture of the receipt as proof I paid for the gate. I'm sure a call to the store asking if they still have the item (that matched the number on the receipt) will prove I am not lying and the gate is not in my possession.

Desired outcome: I would like a refund for the gate I purchased and is still in the store's possession. Or preferably, I would simply like to be able to exchange the item and pick it up at a PetCo in Anchorage.
