Elder Helpers Charged $50.00 to my bank account without authorization

On November 26, 2021, at 4:35 pm EST, I logged in the elderhelpers.org website to inquire about the availability of help with transportation from my home to a medical office. Before any information was provided by elderhelp.org, I was required to enter my credit card information before they would send me a code to access the information I needed. I received the an email from them at 4:53 pm EST requesting a photo of the elder requesting and a story of why the elder needed and deserved to be helped. It said I would receive the code after they reviewed the information I submitted. They emailed my code to me at 5:45 pm EST, and asked me to confirm that I had received this message, which I did. They sent instructions on searching on their website for volunteers in my area, using my code. The email also said "Our subscription fee does not correlate to how many hours of help you can get. It is up to you to talk to as many as our volunteers as you would like and see how they can help and how often. How much help you can get depends on how many people we have in the area you need help in, how many of them you contact, and how compelled they feel to help you. A reasonable level of expectation is 3 to 5 hours a week." There was no mention of the amount of the required contribution or any other fees required. At 5:49 pm EST, I received another email in response to my email queries about the amount of the donations/fees (emailed to them, consecutively, at 6:42, 6:50, and 7:00pm EST), which said "Thank you for contacting Elder Helpers. Your questions and comments are very important to us. You should receive a response to your message within two business days within the hours of 9am and 5pm Pacific Time. Customer service rests weekends and holidays.
We no longer offer phone customer support. Please be patient and wait for a reply to your email. Emailing us more than once will further delay handling of your inquiry." When I checked my checking account, shortly after 7:00 pm EST, they had already charged $50.00 to my account. They were certainly not patient about taking, without my authorization, their "small donation" from me. There were only three volunteers listed on the elderhelpers.org website who could have assisted me with my transportation needs. One of the listed volunteers called me back quickly and said she had moved out of the area and was no longer volunteering for elderhelpers.org. After reading the other complaints on FILE A COMPLAINT, I am not optimistic about receiving help from this organization.

Desired outcome: Elderhelpers.org return my $50.00 and specify the exact amount and frequency of their donation requirements at the beginning, before asking for credit card information and immediately charging the previously unspecified amount of $50.00.

Elder Helpers Elder helpers has my $ 49.99. After a few days no longer recognizes my code

I signed up for Eldercare a few days ago. I provided the requested donation. I got a code. Then I proceeded to look over the volunteers. I picked two of the six volunteers using Elder helpers. They have not answered my phone messages. I am puzzled by the two names for this organization. I signed in to Eldercare.org but the volunteers were listed under Elder helpers. Why two different names? I am 85 years old and I am disabled. I need help with some limited housekeeping in my small one bedroom apartment, small amounts of food shopping ( I order food online but don't always get everything I need, and weekly laundry and

Desired outcome: Why are there just a few volunteers available and why doesn't Elderhelpers recognize me.

Elder Helpers Finding help for seniors

I am totally disappointed in Elder Helpers. The promise of help in my area is a total farce. The volunteers that are signed up did so around 2011 - 2015. Most are college students who have graduated and left the state.

I would like my original $50.00 and the $50.00 draw from my bank account refunded
without further trouble.

Like most of these other people, I feel taken by this company.

Please help me! I want out of this organization and I don't want to waste any more money that I don't have. I have not been able to make contact with any (supposed) volunteers within 20 miles of me. None of the phone numbers work or else when someone does answer they say that the person I am asking for does not live there. I have tried to reach their customer service number with no success. This is my second request for help and nothing has been done. I originally signed up with elder helpers on 9/29/2019. Please help me to get my initial donation of $50.00 back and stop any further monthly deductions of $50.00 from my checking account.

If you read this Kriskus. call your bank and do a stop payment. then advise them that you have requested this to stop all further withdrawals from your account as they never gave you what was promised. that is fraud and it is illegal. you have recourse, and it starts with your bank. call them immediately. they are there 24 hours every day now. good luck

Elder Helpers Cannot get help because all numbers for volunteers don't work.

On September 26, 2019 I made a donation of $50.00 to Elder Helpers to find a volunteer to assist me. I have tried to contact every volunteer near me (within 20 miles). None of the numbers work. They have all been either disconnected, constant busy signal over a period of several says or they say the person I am trying to reach is not at that number. This is a complete waste of $50.00 a month that I do not have to waste. Please discontinue my $50.00 recurring donation immediately and refund my initial donation of $50.00

Elder Helpers The company never told me how much money to donate. Instead they took out $50.00 without my consent.

I live with my disabled sister. We need to rely on friends to go to doctors offices. She is 91 and i am 84. On Sept. 9th I went to My e-mail and found a message from Elderhelpers. This sounded like it would solve my problems. They asked for a donation, being on limited incomes I would have given $10.00. I could not find a place to put the amount in. I suddenly knew i had been taken when I saw $50.00. They did it in less the an hour. I found it out when I went on-line with my Bank. This morning I called my bank Crown Bank and spoke to Lou the manager he said he would try to get my money back, but thought the odds were not in my favor. He said I may have to come to the bank close out my account and open a new one. I should have deleted this from my e-mail. but when you get a little desperate you do stuped things. I will be more careful in the future.

Elder Helpers I have never been contacted about my paid for services.

It was late at night and I signed up for Elder Helpers for $50 a month fee to be taken out of my checking account. I have seen it come out of my account 2x and have still never used any services because I was never outreached. That's a lot of money for an elderly person who needs help badly please contact me so we can discuss this so I can get some services going for many things I need help with. Please contact me my email address is [protected]@yahoo.com. Or check my account info to contact me. Please hurry if you would. Thanks...L. Walters

Elder Helpers Dissatisfied with service (can't find anyone to help)

On 8/13/2018 I gave ElderHelpers my credit card information and started my search.
I tried calling several people for help. Out of all these people only one person answered their phone, that lady (Hamta Hadavand) was great. She came out and helped as requested. Hamta was really nice & a big help.
The rest of the volunteers I was unable to get ahold of, in fact I left messages with no returned calls. Some of them were not accepting calls, non working numbers or no longer in service. I'm paying $50.00 a month & getting nothing in return, therefor I am asking for a refund and stopping payment on any reoccuring payments
These people need to investigate whats really going on with their offered services
I am only giving them one star because there is no option for zero

RESPONSE TO ORIGNAL POST ON 8/27/18

Elderhelpers contacted me and said that they would give me a full refund and stop any future charges, and I thank them for that (but still waiting for my credit to be updated). They didn't make me fight for it. I do think they need to reevaluate how they're treating the volunteers. The one lady that helped me said that they are not compensated for any of the services rendered. In fact I tried tipping her but she wouldn't take it (very kind of her, but I felt someone should hep her because she helped me, so where does the $50.00 a month go?)
I think this would be a great help to so many people, but without any sort of compensation, such as gas or travel time they will never be able to hold on to their volunteers...

Respectively, Mark Milne 9/1/18

The $50 as I understand it is to keep people from accessing peoples' private numbers out of the blue just from the site, and they also need to pay people to update and maintain the site. I do admit that it still seems pretty steep.

Refusing tipping seems to be that one lady's preference- I don't see any rules on the site that prevent tipping.

Elder Helpers No one is available to help me

There must have been at least 20 people I called and they signed up years ago and now were not available. This has got to be a scam. Now I want to cancel the $50 dollars they are taking from me every month and no one answers the phone. This was for my Mom who lives in a residential home. Since I work full-time I don't have the time sometimes to visit on the weekends. The organization was suppose to help me find someone in my area. Please have them cancel the debit of $50 dollars every month thank you, Gloria

Elder Helpers Volunteer/contacting me back

I paid a one time 10 dollar donation as I filled out a volunteer form for ElderHelpers back in November. It is now May and they have yet to contact me for any opportunities. ElderHelpers.org has continued to charge my card 10 dollars every month without my consent since November (70 dollars now)! I emailed them to request cancellation of such payments and they never responded to my email, I now need to cancel my card and order a new one. This "non-profit" is a SCAM!

Elder Helpers Scam businesses

I question the legitimacy of this "non-profit" business. I filled out a form to become a volunteer with their company over a month ago and paid the $10.00 fee to begin training however I was never contacted. The website is very amateur as well. Recently, I returned to their site to ensure they do not continue to charge my credit card and remove my profile but they have made this impossible to do on my own. I am concerned my credit card will be charged $10.00 each month for a service and volunteer experience that I have not been provided or allowed to partake. Needless to say, I do not want to move forward as a volunteer with this "non-profit". It is easy to assume that this is an illegitimate company taking money from volunteers and others searching for caregivers. I read many of the complaints after the fact of signing up as a volunteer and providing them my credit card and now regret this decision as I am under the impression this is an illegitimate operation and should be investigated.

Elder Helpers Out of 50 dollars I paid for nothing

I wonder why you take 50 dollars if you can't provide a decent number of caregivers? I was hoping to get some help with my mother.
I paid 50 dollars and was given a list of people ready to help. I tried to call at least 10 people and all of them were unavailable. They didn't pick up the phone and never called back. Do they really exist?
I'm very disappointed that your idea is so poorly performed.

Elder Helpers Then need only money

I decided to get a job at ElderHelpers as a volunteer because I had a lot of free time and wanted to do something good. I went to their website and contacted company representative who said that first of all I need to fill their application form and upload some pictures. I did everything they said and submitted my application. Later they said that I also need to pay $50 to get my application scanned.
It wasn't even a donation or something, it was just a fee for them to scan my application. What a joke.

Elder Helpers Volunteer organization

I contacted elderhelpers.org on 24 March 2016 for help with my father. He has stage 4 lung cancer and he needed someone to stay with him during the day. Since he doesn't qualify for Medicaid he can't have home healthcare unless he pays out of pocket. Unfortunately, he can't afford $17-20 an hour.
I reached out to them, even though I saw some bad reviews. It seemed like most were sour grapes from people that didn't want to pay for background checks to be volunteers. Well today is the 25th, and I'm already done with them. I've called 8 people. One number was a real estate company, two were disconnected, and 4 I left messages, and 1 lady answered. She said she never finished her application and didn't understand why her profile was still on there. I received another call from the messages I left from a "volunteer's" husband. He said his wife has never been a volunteer and that I should probably be careful about letting anyone in my home that came from this website. To say I'm angry is putting it mildly. I'm also devastated. I don't care about the donation. What I care about is the two days I spent wasting on this organization. I could have been looking somewhere else for help.

When I emailed the lady in charge, she did her best to make me feel stupid and weak. Now, I might not be the brightest crayon in the box, but I know enough about deflection to know what she's doing. I also know all about avoidance and what dodging looks like. I have kids. I see it everyday. Please, for the sake of your sanity, don't waste your time with this website. Even if it's not a con. Most people that sign up to be volunteers aren't keeping their phone numbers updated so you're spending hours calling people that are never going to call you back. This organization is apathetic at best. It's a rip-off at worst.

I created a profile back in 2013 and have never gone through any training or correspondence with anyone at Elder Helpers. There was no background check done on me, but my profile and phone number is available to families in need. I recently received a call from someone asking for help with their elderly mother. Anyone looking for help with someone they even slightly care about, please do not use this organization. There is zero screening taking place.

Hello Anita,

When a volunteer subscribes to our program we send them a training kit to help them be prepare and ready to volunteer.

To secure the safety of our seniors, we encourage all volunteers to get a background check. Background checks are done by IntelliCorp. Our volunteers pay for their own background checks, unfortunately, not all the volunteers do it.

Right now, we are working in a safer and more personal way to recruit volunteers, we are implementing a screening process. Ensuring the safety of our members is our most important task.

Elder Helpers No one called me back after I filled the form

My experience with the company www.elderhelpers.org was strange, because I wanted to help older people. Therefore, I filled the forms and waited for the phone call. Unfortunately, no one from this company called me. Then I again filled the form and waited, but the result was the same. I was angry and didn’t understand why they didn’t contact me. As well as I couldn’t reach them, because their phone didn’t work. Really strange company.

Elder Helpers Don't pay them and ask about everything in advance

Don’t use the website www.elderhelpers.org. I searched for the help on the website. We decided that our mum needed help, so we subscribed for the website and when I called them and asked to find the volunteers to help my mum, it turned out that there were no free volunteers at all. How was it possible? Why no one warned us before. Please, share this info and post comments about this company.

Elder Helpers Waste of money - refusing refund

I thought this service was a lifesaver...WRONG! I am in need of help for my mom. Someone to take her out of the house once in a while, or to a dr. appointment. We purchased the annual subscription to save money in the long run. After searching the lists of people I've tried 10 different people, and all have fallen through. Some don't return calls others said they would help and then never showed up or returned calls. One even said she had signed up three years ago but no one had even contacted her before. I am spending too much time trying to find someone, and I asked for a refund of my unused months and am okay with them charging the higher monthly rate for the 2 months we've had the subscription. They are refusing. They said I have to contact every volunteer in a 20 mile radius and only then will they consider a refund. Mom lives near Philadelphia and there are over 300 volunteers on the site. Some don't even offer driving services! This is totally unfair. Mom is a low income senior that could use this to find a real helper.

Elder Helpers Fraudulent charges

My grand mum retired recently and she needed help in her house. We found the website and registered her. After that she told me that money started to disappear from her account. We started to check everything and it turned out that this company started to steal money from my grand mum. I wonder if there are people, who had the same thing. Maybe you can advise me how to stop these withdrawals. Please post your ideas and comments. Thanks.

I guess these people have a pretty good scam going. I looked on the internet for help. I never used their services but made a ONE TIME DONATION. Then I see are recurring charge on my credit card. If they won't reverse the charge i will go to Better Business Bureau the local television station and dispute the charge on the credit card. So sad to take advantage of someone already in need. Don't use them ; I learned later by friend "they will rob you blind" while in your home
