To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing to formally dispute and demand immediate review of a $5,777.85 debt your institution assigned to a collections agency, which I was not made aware of prior to collection activity.
I attended your nursing program in 2020 and officially withdrew mid-semester after notifying the school of my circumstances. I was informed at that time that the cost of the portion completed would be added to my existing student loan and that I would be contacted if anything further was required. I received no additional communication, billing statements, invoices, or notices of any balance due.
Despite this, I was first made aware of this alleged debt in December 2025, when I was contacted by a collections agency regarding a balance of $5,777.85. Prior to that time, I had received no notice from your institution regarding any outstanding balance. Your institution had my correct contact information on file, including phone number and email, yet made no attempt to inform me of this balance or provide an opportunity to resolve it before assigning it to a third-party collector.
I am formally requesting the following:
All billing statements, invoices, and notices allegedly sent to me regarding this balance
Documentation establishing my legal obligation for the claimed amount
The date the debt was allegedly incurred and the date of first delinquency
Internal records authorizing assignment of this account to collections
An explanation for the failure to notify me prior to assigning this debt to collections
Failure to provide this documentation will be interpreted as confirmation that this debt was improperly assigned and may constitute violations of consumer protection and educational billing standards.
This letter serves as formal notice that I dispute the validity of this debt and am pursuing all available remedies, including regulatory complaints, if this matter is not promptly and appropriately addressed.
Please respond in writing within 15 business days.
Sincerely,
Makenzie Lever
Desired outcome: I would like to get this resolved as I was sent to collections for a debt I was unaware of having.
