CTS Canadian Career College, seemed like a good college at first. But they were just selling me with the line "Why would you do a two year program, when you could get to work in 10 months?". However the credits are not transferable, the staff are rude, and uncooperative. Teachers refuse to accomodate if you ask them to teach in any way other then sitting at a desk and reading to you off a power point. The financial aid officer that does the orders for books, will take your money and try to not give you the books that were purchased! One has to complain to the University of Ministry of Training for University and Colleges, and seek compitent help from financial aid officers at community colleges that are honest and actually do their job. This place is a nightmere, and charges double the price for an accelerated program when the staff are saying they are willing to help you pass, but in their actions they aren't. They will not show up for afterschool help that is scheduled, or will be condescending and snobby if you "don't get it". This school is a waste of student money and time. One is told that it is possible to get a job in ten months, but if one wants to work anywhere other then Sudbury you better have a connection in the company because otherwise there is no edge on the competition in the job market. IT IS NOT ADVISABLE TO ATTEND THIS COLLEGE! Students stay away, spend your money where its useful and people treat you with the respect and dignity one deserves as a student and consumer!

Avoid this school! Money grabbing thieves. Everyone there is either incompetent, rude or on a power trip. They are happy to fail you and not refund you your money. If you dare challenge an instructor they deliberately fail you or have their colleague bully you. They are super unprofessional! The instructors there aren’t real teachers but are hustling, CTS is like their 2nd/3rd job. If the instructors are CTS graduate run! They didn’t learn a thing! Too bad I can’t attach the voice notes of them cursing in class, gossiping about the other instructors/program coordinator. Zero confidentiality because they gossip about other students they find “slow” or who challenges them.

Might be high time that the Ministry of Education is made aware of the shortfalls that this school (Barrie) has been harbouring such as class times being cut in half (daily)and not meeting regulated standards of teaching, particularly regarding the MLAT program. The bullying and blatant disregard for students futures and their monetary loss is utterly disgusting.

I am wondering if anyone has had any issues with CTS failing to accommodate you (either students or staff) and or if they thought they had been discriminated against or felt like they had been discriminated. Thanks laurielpsharpe@gmail.com

I attended the Paralegal Course at CTS in Sudbury as well as several other courses in my post secondary school education. CTS Canadian Career College is by far the worst. From my perspective, as well as the perspective of several other students that were in my class, it is nothing but a money making scheme. It is based on "pull them in and push them out as quick as possible". You are sold a "Bill of Goods" that is essentially "decorative". "Think about it, you can do a 2-3 year program in 1 year". Sound too good to be true, well it is. The teachers in the Paralegal Course do not have the formal education to teach, and as such, totally lack teaching skills. They are simply just there to monitor the class during powerpoint presentations and exams, akin to watching television. Some, if not most, have side businesses. They are not 100% full time teachers. Exam reviews are done so as to "facilitate" the passing of the course tests and exams. The whole course is primarily based on a "canned program" from Edmond Publishing; text books, teacher's materials and test banks. The whole course is so condensed that the course content absorption is minimal, if any at all. There is hardly any court or tribunal time. Student placements, required to graduate, are a joke (essentially free labour for firms), and most, if not all of the students are ill prepared for such. The course is not very effective in preparing students for the LSUC Paralegal Examination. The teachers basically teach to the past LSUC Paralegal Examinations and not the ones that are currently in force. Do yourself a very big favour, stay clear of this school. Your time, and money is better spent attending a proper post secondary institution for such. It will take you longer, but you will benefit from this experience versus attending a private career college. I do not recomend ever considering or taking the private career college route. This seems to be the preferred route for funding agencies, with only considerations for costs and not quality of education. The LSUC should monitor these colleges more strigently. I along with some of my classmates are definetly going to contact the LSUC and ask for a review of this school's Paralegal Course and hopefully it will loose it's acreditation, as it is not desrving of offering such. PLEASE DO YOURSELF A BIG FAVOUR, DON"T WASTE YOUR MONEY, DON"T ATTEND THIS SCHOOL.

CTS Barrie's PCP program. It has literally been the worst experience of my life. I can write a book on all the issues I have had with them. Two big issues being that they do not follow their own policies and they harass students. The College does nothing to back their students. I asked for help from them but received none. When an incident occurred I had to ask for an incident report which per policy they should have provided and helped me with. I handed the incident report in and still have heard nothing it's been a few weeks. The College tries to intimidate students. They have instructors that tell others about students personal situations which is confidential. The staff turn over is amazing and the lack of knowledge and respect from some instructors is amazing! I absolutely hate this College and will be fighting the College until the bitter end because what they have done to me and I'm sure others is totally wrong. They should be shut down. It's a horrible place, with horrible teaching skills, resources and cleanliness. If you are considering going to this college...DONT!

I too had a bad experience with this school, that I decided to walk away. Worst experience in my life. I will never promote or suggest this school. If I could find the right avenue, I would complain till my voice was heard. This school only cares about taking your money, and running with it.

I would agree that CTS is a total and complete waste of time and money! The teaching methods are very dry, aside from the teacher reading directly from the books there is really not much else to the education they provide. They are called instructors because they instruct you to read chapter xyz and that's about it. They are not teachers/professors and have absolutely no qualifications other than they must be a licensed paralegal. Most of the instructors are past graduates from CTS, are not practising at all and it's a total mystery(or maybe not) as to why they don't get a real job in their filed! Their knowledge of the law is extremely limited, and when you question whether or not they are sure about what they are trying to teach, they get extremely offensive and take the approach that they couldn't possibly be wrong. I had to call an actual lawyer a few times when I was sure what they were teaching was wrong, and sure enough, they were wrong!
After writing the LSUC licensing exam I realized just how horrible the education was, and after talking to other students who wrote and went to 2 year programs I realized I really should have gone to a real school instead of the money grabbing institution CTS. If you are already working in the legal field and need to be licensed because of new regulations, CTS might be for you, but if you want to learn anything and have any prospects of getting a job once you have graduated...GO TO A REAL SCHOOL!

I attended CTS from [protected] where I graduated with honours. Jerry LeBlanc, Paralegal instructor and practitioner was an excellent instructor. Very caring, very professional and very knowledgeable. I will be writing my Law Society of Upper Canada Paralegal Law Exam in August 2015. I have reviewed all of the 600 plus pages of the Study Material provided by the Law Society and fell quite prepared to write my Bar exam. There is nothing covered in the 64 chapters of the Study Material that we did not cover in our classes.

While I respect the other opinions, I can honest state without reservation that CTS is the real deal. While there are always ways to make some improvements in any organizations, it believe its incumbent upon all students to make those constructive suggestions through the proper channels so as to allow management the opportunity to not only be aware of concerns, but the appropriate time to make those changes.

CTS is a HORRIBLE school. I was in the Paramedic Program where I basically taught myself for 9 months straight. Ive been name called and told I was going to fail multiple times from a teacher who has no filter. My class lost over 60 hours of skills training classes due to this teacher teaching his own advanced 12 leads off of youtube. The teachers are all friends so when you get into it with one you're screwed with them all and above all; they want you to failand they love when you fail. You can go through the entire program passing but if you make so much as a minor mistake on your second and final scenario you then fail in which you have to dish out another few grand to redo 3 months. Private college is a money grab, I wouldnt advise my worst enemy to go to this place

This place is the result of what happens when a train hits a train wreck; it is an absolute disaster. The unprofessional York Region medics that teach at that school are hated in their own service and are constantly negative at school. The administration at that school is so bad they lost my documents three times and three times I had to go back and forth to the doctors office for them to recopy them. What I find even more funnier is that they hire their students (who havent even graduated) to teach! No practical experience, no nothing...and this is what you pay 20 grand for?

Someone has got to step in, I believe we should all be writing letters to the people who accreditate the program because I havent even gotten started yet; thats just the tip of the iceberg. As a matter of fact, thats the next step.

I had an issue with one instructor, and was blackballed. Dr. K pretty much sits there and listins to her instructors and backs them up without even asking you privately what happened. Complete BS.

While I respect everyone's opinion, I am left asking a couple of important questions.

1) Did any of these students complete a Student Complaint form and submit it according to the Student Handbook Complaint Process as per the Ministry guidelines?
2) Did the student have their elected Student Class Representative present throughout the process?
3) There should have been a written response by CTS. There is no mention of this anywhere.
4) If there was no acceptable response by CTS as per the their and the Ministry guidelines, was there any written complaint to the Ministry?

I attended CTS Barrie Campus in 09 for the PCP Program. Worst financial decision of my life so far. Tuition cost 18 000 THOUSAND DOLLARS! (not including commuting to class/ renting a place). The course schedule was carefully designed that after 4 months of enrolment, CTS has been paid 15, 000 but all I had been taught was Intro to PC and Word, Educational Success, Communication and Interpersonal Skills etc then courses such as Patient Care Skills 1 and 2, A&P 1 and 2, Field consolidation begin being taught, failing any of which (below 70) means you fail the course and if you've been enrolled more than 6 months, get no money back (according to Lana Baker). Moreover, instructors had no prior teaching experience hence were poor educators and even denied requests for tutoring despite the Dean and Coorindator claiming it was an option. Bottom line, I know so many poor people that took out loans or put all their savings into this program and were failed on questionable calls that meant they lost 18 000 THOUSAND DOLLARS!

Currently attending the Barrie campus, and I agree with all the negative comments. The only reason I am still there is because it's too late to get out. Maybe once they get rid of Lana Baker it will be a better place for students, but so far she is protected and her lies believed.

I would like to let you know that I would NEVER recommend the Sudbury campus CTS to anyone. The teachers are extremely rude and ignore certain students. Some of the staff there are rude as well. It seems like this school is only and strictly there to get their money not to see people succeed and get a career. We were supposed to be treated as adults whereas a lot of the teachers treat you like you are in elementary school. It seems to be all about the money, nothing else!

At the Barrie campus, we as students have a voice to a certain extent. Teachers are very willing to accomadate how the students in the class need to be taught. The only aruging that I have seen there throughout this past year was between the students, but that makes sense because we were learning how to argue effectively through eachother. I am about to go on placement next week, and next month I will have graduated from the Law Society of Upper Canada's accredited Paralegal diploma program. By the LSUC regulating my future profession, they also have requirements that CTS's paralegal program must follow!
I was skeptical at first as well, but really, my curriculum was enforced and updated by my future regulating body, and the instructors are all honest practising individuals.
I would do my year over again. The program I took, all my classmates new and old, and the instructors have all helped me grow.
When selecting a school, it all comes down to research and what is best for your desired profession. In my case, I thank CTS for offering my program and for working with me to find placement . They give you lots of information, it's up to you to take that information in, use it, and apply it.

Classes are too compact and do not focus on what you need to know for the future, there is a lot of information given that is not tested on and seems like a waste of time. I do find the staff friendly but the teachers unwilling and almost opposed and naive about their dry teaching methods.
Unfortunately no I would not recommend this college to anyone, go to an accredited college it is more worth the money to get a good degree in a longer periode of time.. dont fall into the CTS/CDI/Everest trap door, they can simply find you a job but do not set you up for long term career. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY
If you aren't sure about what CAREER you want i would recommend CTS as it does give you some basic skills and a diploma but I wouldnt expect to go very far with the infomation you have. Its a good start if you just want a job

the staff at the North Bay cts are very rude and they should be fired in order to get good students. many people would go there if the staff was not so rude.
they give you i test to start there and if you pass it, they get you to write it again and come in the room and preasure you on time you have left to finish, and then fail you what a school its a joke.

This is more feedback rather than a complaint. I went to CTS for the IT course and got hired at the local hospital after they came to CTS looking for volunteers while I was attending College which is where I ended up doing my Co-op. I ended up working at the hospital fulltime for a happy 2yrs but then got layed off due to financial problems with the hospital itself.

My only disapointment was when I moved to Ottawa in search of a Government IT related jobs and realized that CTS was not recognized by any Federal or Provincial departments. You can't even fill out a complete online Fed gov application since CTS is not listed in the list of appoved Colleges. All well paying IT jobs (more than $15hr) require at least a 2yr College program. Now having said that, there are plenty privately owned companies that will still hire you and offer a reasonable salary. Remember that IT is a huge field with tons of various branches you can go to. CTS overall qualifies you for what is probably the 1st branch which is Help Desk.

I am very sory you had such a negative experience with this campus. I'm sure there are two sides to this complaint and it's unfair to place blame on one party. Every complaint has two sides and I'm sure both of these positions can be substanitated. It doesn't sound like a win/win situation and when we devote time, money and energy on beginning a new career. Understanding our motives behind returning to school especially a career oriented private college is very important. Motivation is the next most important factor to consider. Once again, I'm very sorry that you were left with such a negative impact.

we just did 3 modules and they squeezed us with 25 other people who will graduate soon, i feel like a deer in the head lights with no active participation like other students, just lost in the class and have no clue what they are talking about most of the time, many students are a lot of pages ahead of me in my class, , , just very confusing, , thinking about dropping the course, , , ,

My experience at CTS was great. The instructors and staff were very helpful in any situation that came up. The instructors had even given us their personal email addresses so that we could email them any questions we may have had outside of business hours, very compassionate about what they are doing. The program that I was in required a placement and the instructor helped to make sure that got in where i wanted to do my placement. I even gained employment from this placement. I would DEFINATELY recommend this school to anyone that is looking to receive a new career and get back into the workforce quickly.

I agree and am having a hard time now that I have been attending. When our class had complaints about classroom size the campus director looked me in the eye and said something along the lines of "Your on OSAP I'm only here for legitimate concerns" (that is not word for word since she was a little more insulting) and told me because I am receiving OSAP I don't count and my opinion doesn't matter because the tuition cost is not being paid by me. Um, excuse me but I have to pay that OSAP loan back! Regardless there are a multitude of things I can say that the school did inappropriately but I don't recommend this school to anyone either!
