We tried using Zicasso for a trip we had been planning for long time from the US to Turkey, Greece & Egypt. However although they claim to match your criteria with service providers who are meant to be experts in those destinations, they only have a handful of agents who reply to these requests, and none of these agents are local. Meaning you aren't really getting an opinion and competitive prices, in other words you are paying a substantial amount of commissions to overseas agents who are in return using local agents for these services. Stay away from Zicasso and with a little bit of research you should be able to find local agents who can provide you with better rates and local knowledge rather than inflated rates from a New York city office.

I wouldn't say rip off - I would say not willing to work with you and provide additional options when the budget doesn't fit them

Dear ...

Thank you for submitting your Trip Request to Zicasso. Unfortunately, given the services and budget you specified, we are not able to find a travel company who can provide you with an appropriate quote for your desired services. Sorry that we can't assist you for this trip.

Thank you for your consideration.

Kind regards,

On behalf of Zicasso, I would like to address the issue brought up here. Zicasso partners with the industry's top 10% travel specialists and we believe in having a mix of US-based and foreign/locally-based travel agent partners. Overall, the travel market has found the need for both types of travel agents and there are good reasons.

US-based travel agents are more inclined to understand the tastes and preferences of American travelers and thus, they tend to more consistently design itineraries that fit the needs of Americans. Additionally, it's more convenient for American travelers to communicate with a US-based agent, e.g. making a local toll-free call during a convenient time of day. For these reasons, most American travelers prefer to use a US-based travel agent.

Foreign- or locally-based travel agents bring a wealth of knowledge about their countries but in general, they might not understand American tastes and preferences as consistently as their US counterparts. This is particularly the case in developing countries. While their prices tend to be lower, the difference is generally not so substantial and thus, as mentioned above, most Americans prefer to work with a US-based agent. However, there are some excellent locally-based travel agents out there, and Zicasso's goal is to partner with the best ones. The post above mentioned travel to Greece, Turkey, and Egypt -- Zicasso does have excellent local partners in each of those countries.

In summary, Zicasso matches travelers with a mix of excellent US-based and foreign/locally-based travel agent partners. We give travelers a choice, knowing that each Zicasso partner has been selected because of their excellence in delivering quality service at the best value.
