I have been living in a flat in Sharjah for more than four years and my bills were always paid promptly.
Last month I decided to relocate to Dubai, and when I visited Sewa to collect my deposit and close my account I was in a shock when they told me that my meter was not working and I was only being charged for seven months and authorities asked me to pay Dh180 for each month.
After complaining and talking to the seniors they accepted to charge me Dh130 as an estimate for each month. This is a one-bedroom flat with only two occupants who are out from morning until evening, and my monthly bill has always been above Dh400, even when I was out of country.
I find this is unfair because if the meter was not reading properly, how should I have known? I was not aware about it at all. An official at Sewa, who declined to be named, explained that it is the residents' responsibility to be aware that the amount they are charged is significantly lower than their consumption.
We are really disappointed by the response of the Sewa employee. As long as the customers do not tamper with the meter boxes they cannot be held responsible for its functioning. So if the meter has been recording wrong readings, etc. then it is Sewa's job to monitor it and take action.
How come the tenant is responsible to observe the fault in meter when he has no access to the meter room? It is responsibility of the building management and then Sewa to observe such defects, proactively attend such complaints and endeavour to replace faulty meters.
The attached photo is from Gulfnews: A Sharjah consumer’s gas bill, which is apparently overcharging, is placed next to the Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority meter. A Sewa official has said it is the responsibility of the tenants to ensure that the meters are working properly and alert the utility if they are not functioning well.
I hope the Government of Sharjah in the UAE takes the necessary Actions to this issues unless they are aware of what's happening and really just doesn't have care for other people.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.

I am a tenant living in Robot Computer Building in MINA ROAD, AL SOUR FLAT NO 604. We have been living in this apartment for over 22 months and the monthly bills usually comes maximum 500 AED but for the past two months the bills has become very high, increased to 976 AED.
Kindly look into this please do the needful to rectify this issue.

i am living in same flat since 6 years and consuming the same amount of electricity every month, bcoz of our building is chiller free ac so we dont receive aed 400-450 per month, but since 2 months our bills are coming a way too too high, i never paid that much bill ever, last june 3rd i paid and cleared whole amount of aed 1150, and than 29th june i was shocked to hear the news even i was not in uae that electricity has been cut off by sewa, i was so disappointed to hear that, bcoz only 22 days back i paid all amount than it is not possible to have a bill for only 22 days for aed 1150 again, i requested my brother to pay and i will comeback and check there might be some mistake in the bill or some error, it means in 23 days we paid them aed 2300, which was every month aed 400 or maximum 450 a month, so its really a very disappointed situation for us, we cant afford to pay that much bill, even i checked again my bill is again aed 800 after only 20 days of paying aed 1150...
i am requesting you to pls arrange some solution for it and arrange a team to check and find the issue... also i want u to send me the proof of meter readings since 3 months

Were having difficulties when security cut the electricity having paid 2k as of now doing this its absurb for them to say that in summer we are using extra electricity like a/c and we are using 24/7 from the last year we moved in, and theres peak on electricity every month and were using same stuff everyday every month im confuse now plus this sewa cycle its like when u complain there you have to pay still, and by the way we are in Tiger building al mansour tower
There is an error in the electricity meter in my flat I think. It is noted as 800 units for the last month electricity. It has never exceeded more than 400 units maximum for the past several years (You can check the records) and moreover I was not in the house for the 2 weeks last month. Hence, only my bill should be reduced from the previous month but it is more now. Last month the SEWA representative came and changed the meter and now only it is not working properly i think. I am a tenant of Tiger Building Al Nahdah (Al Yamrook - Grand Express Tiger) and we regret to inform you that the injustice is happening from Tiger management to tenants. When there is any cheque return/expiring of contract renewal they disconnecting water & electricity without informing the tenants. It makes us embarrass lot of families and my sister was pregnant and she got fainted in the house due to suffocation as there were no electricity. Due to this she lost the baby in the hospital. This is happening repeatedly and we complaint to SEWA but nothing happen still. Therefore we request you to take necessary action at least giving fine to them. Recently they disconnect SEWA in my friends house while their children were in the house but it was disgusting. How they can do this if the SEWA bill is cleared? Please answer to my query.

I dont find the right words to describe such a dissapointing company. Sewa is my worst experience over all since I moved to the UAE. High, unreasonable, fluctuating and unreal bills and on top of this they charged all of a sudden 2800aed for meter maintenance or adjustment or whatever they wanna call it. Fact is that it is completely non sence to surprise people with such a weird statement. Pay or die!
