I made a reservation through Priceline.com for the Parkerton Inn in Cape Carteret, NC for Oct 9 through 13, 4 nights. I was taking my two dogs with me and saw on the website their could be a charge for Pets. I have stayed in other hotels where the charge is minimal with a refundable deposit if the room is like it was when you checked in. My guarantee rate was $320.72, which I was very pleased with, but upon arrival when I was charged for my stay, the bill was a whopping $456.64, of course I questioned it, , the man behind the desk said the difference was the dogs. I almost flipped, he was charging me $120.00 for my dogs to only stay in the room. By the way a room on the second floor no less. I am 70 yrs old and my dogs are both 10 & 11, so needless to say it was hard for all three of us to up and down those stairs. When I asked about this I was told those are the Pet designated rooms. Even though the hotel never had but three or four other cars in the parking lot besides mine. We were stuck in that room upstairs. We finally got a coffee maker on Wednesday. Thursday we left about 10:00 am to go visit my brother and did not return until after 9:00 pm that night, only to find the door to the room standing open, room was dark and I was not pleased at all about that, but there again, nothing was done when I complained. The Indian couple who talked to me at the front desk I am assuming were the owners. They could care less about their patrons and the hotel offers nothing but a pool and wifi. They have one ice machine which did not work and one soda machine. I being a person who traveled for a living for over 15 years have stayed in all types of hotels. But in all my experiences this one is the worst. I would never recommend it to anyone. Go anywhere other than here. JLK

My husband and I had a similar experience and but had one small dog (shih-tzu) and they charged $50 extra...but I didn't realize it would be that much and told the manager that was outrageous. Our dog doesn't shed, jump on furniture and does his business outside and if anything, they should refund the $50 deposit (via mail would be fine) once they checked the condition of the room once our stay was over. Of course, they said they couldn't change the rules, but we will never stay there again. Since then, we confirm the pet "friendly" charge beforehand and on our most recent trip, we weren't charged extra at all, so hoping that more and more hotels will change their "rules". In today's world, many people bring their pets while traveling and it will make a difference how the hotels treat their guests...including their pets. Also, from my experience, most pet friendly hotels have a block of rooms on the first floor. I've also used Priceline but even tho the hotel claims "pet friendly" does not mean they won't charge you extra. I think if any extra charges should be required, it would be for kids who make noise and are destructive.
