Mr. Handyman International Hostile drugs extremely demeaning very vulgar language aggressive extortion

I started approx third week in June

2022 and truly felt I was going to be with a great company.

The first day I showed up there were a group of employees in a huttle and I walked up to introduce myself and they were all smoking Marijuana. I walked into office and Tony the owner said I was training for maybe a week.

He sent me with Richard who after about five minutes driving asked me if I get high.

I was really uncomfortable and felt out of place.

My second day he sent me with Joe who was not only so high I could barely understand him or see his eyes Joe was very aggressive did not want to listen to suggestions and did some horrible work that I took pictures of.

Customer complained and Tony jumped all over me for the work that Joe one of his employees did.

I was then sent on another deck with Joe the third day. Still another day of all the employees standing around smoking weed and owner Tony walking around the parking lot talking as the employees are smoking weed.

Tony for whatever reason started on a daily basis attacking me.

I will apologize up front for language I will be verbatim.

On my first check I was short 40 hrs pay.

I brought this to Tony's attention and the first words out of his mouth was I don't have a fuxxing clew and I was full of [censored].

Come to find out Tony shorted me 40 hours on my pay.

From that point on it was even worse to the point of telling me I was a 60 year old man that didn't give a [censored] and a 5 year old kid had more sense.

On the last day of work when I could not take anymore he then started to degrade me with vulgar language and said as long as you honor our agreement you will get paid.

I said regardless of any agreement you can't extort me for my check.

He said funding watch me you piece of [censored].

He has since taken my last check forcing me to go to the labor board.

The day I quit I was going to work for Mr Handyman of Glenview and not only has he threatened me through a text not to see him or employees face to face if I know what's good for me.

He blocked me from working with Mr Handyman.

This is the type of review no company needs.

Desired outcome: Very very poor

Mr. Handyman International low quality, unprofessional, not timely

Hired them to replace my kitchen floor and some doors. Not only did they not complete on time, the parts that they worked on was a complete disaster. Long story short, I had to call someone last minute to fix everything before I moved in and paid a premium. They were unprofessional and demanding payment when the job was not even complete. They would not reply to any of my emails and calls and after a year a debt collection agency mailed me a letter with an invoice.

Mr. Handyman International door jamb replacement

Bob from Mr. Handyman Richmond came out to replace my door jamb which caused the outside trim to separate from the house. Katie from the Richmond office told me that separation was typical of the job I paid for and they'd be happy to send Bob back out to fix that for another service fee since it's considered additional work. Bob never told me or my wife that would happen let alone show us!

Mr. Handyman International diet coke caffeine-free

I bought a 12-pack of Caffeine-Free Diet Coke at my local Jewel store in Skokie. 11 of the 12 cans were fine, but one can was a Pibb Extra - Spicy Cherry Soda. I have not tried it because I hate Cherry soda. I'd just like to get a coupon for a replacement can of Caffeine-Free Diet Coke.

FYI, on the bottom of the can the following is stamped:
JUN1217RXD
06063

Thanks.

Mr. Handyman International False Advertising / SCAM / Horrible Customer Service

Mr. Handyman did not honor free offer to do a home inspection. In the confirmation information checklist they say "New customers are eligible for a free brief home inspection to check for things that could interfere with your safety and/or comfort, which includes 26 items indoors and out and only takes about 15mins. depending on the size of your house." The tech showed up two hours late for his appointment and when I asked for the inspection, he said inspections occur after a service is completed and it was too late in the day for the inspection (it wasn’t my fault he was two hours late.) He said I could schedule it on my next job with them. He also said another tech lived in my area and that maybe he could do it. Well, I didn't schedule another job, but I wanted the inspection as it was offered. Note, nothing in their advertising said inspections had to be scheduled with the job. I called the front office the next day and I was told that I would have to order some more work and they would schedule it then. Order more work to get their offer? I had no more work to order. So they said they wouldn't do it. In addition to false advertising, this was horrible customer service. They reneged on a promise and they didn't care that they did. They didn't care that the tech was two hours late, they just didn't care. This was terrible. Good customer service would have had the tech schedule the inspection some other time. It would only take fifteen minutes according to their description. Instead, they wanted to charge me another $158 for an hour of work for something that should be free. This is a scam. This business disrespects their customers. While the tech might have done good work, the front office was terrible. I will not recommend Mr. Handyman. Their rates are too expensive for the amount of work ordered and the level of poor customer service.

Mr. Handyman International Do Not Hire This Company

Warning! Do not hire this company. We recently asked this company to replace the wood board under the sink because it was water stained. We told them when we made the appointment that we wanted the wood replaced. When they arrived they said they had to go and buy the wood. That was an hour charge plus $15 for use of the van and $10 gas. Home Depot is only 5 minutes from the house. When they installed the wood they took apart some drain pipes under the sink. We were concerned that they might cause new leaks. They said not to worry because their work was guaranteed. When they finished they had an extra piece of drain pipe that they said wasn't needed. 2 days later we looked under the sink and there was a a new water stain. We called and asked them to replace the wood. They came out and said they would sand it down and it would be fine. They sanded and it left a darker stain. We again asked them to replace the wood and they refused unless we paid them another $150. Total cost was already $317. This company is unprofessional, overpriced and does shoddy work.

Mr. Handyman International Home Repairs

Warning! Do not use Mr. Handyman of Metro East, IL! You will regret it! The company is unprofessional and offer unqualified services. Do not be fooled with its elaborate website. Mr. Handyman companies are individual owned. The webpage is general for all locations. I contacted Mr. Handyman of Metro East to complete odd jobs around my condo. I immediately received a scheduled in-home evaluation; however, the technician rescheduled my appointment one day prior and arrives late to the next one. Moving along, I thoroughly walk the tech through my condo informing of the services needed. The tech stated he understood my requests, could complete the jobs with ease and would get back with me with written costs/estimate. At that time, tech took with him a sample of my wood work for matching. I never seen or heard from the tech again. I called the office repeatedly for follow-up and have only spoken to the secretary. I have left many messages for the tech and owner to call me back. I never received a call back or my wood sample. Eventually, I gave up calling and kissed my wood sample good-bye. I believe the company could not complete some of the jobs of requested, did not want the job or the job would not generate enough money! Either way, the professional thing to do was to contact letting me whether they were still interested or not. I would not recommend Handyman of Metro East, IL to anyone; nor would I take a chance allowing them to repair any work. You are most likely to receive a patch up job; if they follow back up with you, than a fix! Be careful!

Mr. Handyman International Do not use them!

Not worth my money!
Window frame came apart - it took Chad of waukesha, WI 5 minutes to run two screw through it. He did not have glazing - how do you not have glazing if you know you are coming to repair a window?! Now I have to get someone else to finish the window.
Since I was paying by the hour, I had him repair a latch on the garden gate. He screwed in a 6' piece of wood - shabby shabby shabby!
And he charged me $20 for materials! 4 screws and a piece of throw-away wood cost $20! When I scheduled this appointment, dispatch did not tell me anything about materials being extra - for $146/hour, 4 screws should've been included.
All in all, it was lousy work and bad service.
Do not use them!

I used Mr. Handyman in Murphy, Texas. They came out saw that I needed a piece of wood, went to the store for an hour and that cost me $90 for a store visit 5 minutes away. They did forty five minutes of work and then waited three hours for the paint to dry before finishing. Those three hours of waiting cost me an additional $270. What a joke. What a crooked company. Total bill for forty-five real work minutes, $490. Repair was lousy.

This afternoon I called Mr. Handyman because I had three major jobs that I needed to have done. After being on hold for several seconds I was informed that there was no one available and I needed to call back. Not very likely. They could have at least provided the means for me to leave a message for a call back. Hardly professional. Not impressed.

Working in the contracting and building business for over 40 years i can tell you first hand from personnel hands on experience, doing any handyman type of work is never a cut and dried sort of job . It is truly impossible to do small repairs all the time and have current access to materials and hardwares to match what your working on. Honestly when hireing a handyman you have to be willing to compromise. I think most people call to save money but in actuality if you want professional results on some of this type of work it needs to be torn out totally for a complete professional remodel . I find many people are just not willing to spend the money to do it right and end up with this ( handy man ) quality. Bottom line is dont expect miracles when you hire any handyman types of companies, its close to impossible to match all your needs

Mr. Handyman International Do not hire

I think Mr. Handyman should do some background check on those individuals they use to do work. I hired Michael Darcy of Roslindale, MA to do some work on a home I was renovating. We were working under a deadline, but there was plenty of time to complete the job. Mr. Darcy left a job half finished, dumped all his paint cans on the property and never returned. I tried to contact him, but he never returned the calls. I have no idea what happened or why he quit in the middle of a job, but I want to warn those of you who use this service to stay away from Michael Darcy.

Mr. Handyman International Poor job

I used Steve Boehler of monmoth county, Mr Handyman

The door replaced came off the next day.
The paint touch on basement stairs was so shabby, even my 2 year old can do a better job.

Mr. Handyman International Waste of Time

This is the email I sent to the handyman and I received a phone call from someone in the office saying they were very sorry. They also told me that I would hear from the comapny owner. It has been 3 weeks and I have not heard from them and I have a sneaky suspicion that I will not. "I had an appointment set with you on June 30th. My estimated service time was for 6 hours with an appointment at 8am. The handyman was a twenty minutes late but he did call to let me know that would be the case. The handyman sent my wife to the hardware store three times throughout the day, one of which because he told her to get the wrong size of lumber so she had to return it and get a larger piece. She also purchased new supply lines for the faucet tub which he later decided not to use. After approximately three hours(11:15), he left for lunch and to go get some of his tools that he said did not bring. At this point in the service call he only tried to fix the faucet, but explained that he needed a certain pair of pliers which he did not bring. He also used all of the teflon tape in the bathroom and asked my wife for more which I thought he should have brought for a plumbing job. I had assumed that when the person I spoke on the phone asked me many questions about the jobs that I needed completed that they would pass that information along to the handyman so he would have all the proper tools. He also told me that he needed to pick up his staple gun because he did not bring that either and would need that to fix the screen on the screen door. He spent the last ten minutes before his lunch break tearing out the a threshold for a door that leads to the backyard. He showed my wife the piece of wood that was underneath it and said it needed to be replaced as well. He also took the pieces of wood that held the screen on the front door off and said she needed to get new wood for that as well. She went back to the hardware store. He returned an hour and a half later(12:45) and had the faucet fixed in 10 minutes. That leads me to believe that not having the right tools was the cause for over three hour repair job for two trickling leaks in the supply lines for the faucet. He then informed my wife that he had a court appointment and needed to leave early and he did not think he would get to finish that day. He asked if he could come back on Friday. She told him no that she would not be available on Friday. He then decided instead of finishing the part of the house at the back that he had exposed to the elements he would work on the screen doors. He replaced the hinges. He then returned to my wife and said he would come back after court because it would not take long to finish. She told him that would be fine. He said that way he would not get in trouble for not letting his boss know about the court date. Then he attached the handle to the screen door. By that time I was home and he asked me if the handle was attached the right way because one side had a knob and the other a lever. I told him that it needed to be turned the other way. At that time the handle was in perfect condition. He proceeded to attach the handle the right way. He then told us he was leaving and would be back after court and this was at 2:40. He said he did not tell his boss about the court date because this was only supposed to be a 6 hour job and he should be done in plenty of time for his appointment, when actually he had only worked for 5 hours so he did not have enough time to do the allotted jobs. My wife and I discussed the progress that had been made and went to look at the door handle. That is when we realized he had he not cut the opening for the latch so the door actually sticks when closed. We looked at the knob on the outside and noticed that it was scratched and dented from where it was apparently dropped. The door handle is a black antique reproduction to match other handles on the house that was special ordered. It is brass underneath and there are three prominent scratches that go all the way through to the under coating one of those is also accompanied by a severe dent. At this point my wife calls the handyman number to complain. She told the representative that the handyman was very slow and had dented the hardware on the door. The rep told her that they would "make it right." She never explained exactly what that meant other than they would make him replace the door handle on his own time. Of course for that to happen we would have to supply the door handle which means we will have to order another one for the job that the extra one we have is meant for. She did not say what she would do about the handyman being slow and coming unprepared without proper tools. She said she would call and let us know whether or not he was going to return the same day after court. We waited by the phone for two hours and heard nothing. Finally we received a call at about 530 saying he was not coming back today. That of course meant the door had a 1 and a half inch gap from the floor where it was open as underneath the house was exposed where it was normally protected by the wood that was under the threshold. She said she would try to have him back out the next day(Thursday) around two. We scheduled for my wife to be off work to be there for the handyman. Then it rained on Thursday. The customer service person called around 1 and explained that since it was raining and the work was outside that we should make it the next day. My wife rescheduled her appointments on Friday, and again it rained. It did rain severely and there was flooding around town. However, that does not mean that phones do not work. We received no call from anyone that day. It is now Thursday of the following week, eight days since our original appointment. We have not received a phone call Friday, Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday. We haven't heard from you in a week. It has rained, so maybe that makes the work unable to be done, but I do think it warrants a phone call. I have tried to block the whole with trash bags and the threshold that should have been installed. The entire room is humid because it is not sealed from the elements. Not to mention the noise that comes in at night from the frogs and other creatures in the yard, but it is also a mosquito & bug hazard having an opening in these wet conditions. Underneath the house is wet where it should be protected and I do not know what that will cause. I still have a handle that has been ruined by your employee. I still have the rotten wood outside the door where he tore out the threshold that he did not clean it up. It is in bits all over the back porch. I have a pile of screws and old hinges on my front porch that he just left where he took them off the door. And of course my favorite, the one of the two screen doors that he actually tried to fix still sticks because he did not carve an opening for the latch. This is to serve as notice that our business dealings at this point are finished. I do not want the handyman to return to attempt to finish the work. I will not attempt to get reimbursed for the handle that has been ruined or the supplies that I was asked to purchase that were never used. It is apparent to me that after 7 days and no phone call or follow up from anyone at your company that you have you have no intention of actually finishing the job. I will find someone else to fix the work that has been left undone. "

Mr. Handyman International Rip off

I hired Mr Handyman to install a new range top and the technician showed up late, had no idea what he was doing and took 6 hours to do a job that a competent person could have done in about 2 hours. I felt sorry for the guy who is just trying to make a living but he had limited experience, told me that Mr H provided no training at all except for how to "up Sell" and billed his time at over $100 per hour (really-no lie). Apparently this is another quizos type franchise that will probably go away - but beware of the slick adds.

Mr. Handyman International Bad service

Calvin came to my home, as a handyman, to replace an existing lighting fixture, change out a faucet and hang a ceiling fan. After 2 and a 1/2 hours he still hadn't even gotten to the ceiling fan... he installed the faucet, however now my hot water didn't work at all and he installed and OBVIOUSLY damaged (don't know if he damaged the lighting fixture) lighting fixture. He didn't leave behind the boxes or the old lines (he left to go to Lowes for 1/2 an hour to buy new lines for the plumbing). You would think that knowing he was installing a faucet he would bring new lines... but he comes unprepared as well, I guess.

After all that the bill came to 317$! When we tried to talk to Katie at the home office she was very argumentative and refused to back up her company's "pledge" of customer satisfaction.

Hire these folks at your own risk! Definitely stay away from Katie and Calvin!

There is no conclusion if the services ordered were performed. The Technician should have provided an estimate before starting the job and if the scope of the work changed the customer should have been notified. Did the customer provide the faucet or did Mr. Handyman?
What was the quoted cost and how much did thej bill exceed the original quote? Buyers remorse is different than customer satisfaction.

Mr. Handyman International Rip off

I went to a job one morning (3 min. from my house) to clean gutters, well when I got there there was not a tree in sight tall enough to drop leaves on the roof to cause a back up, so the nice much older lady was puzzled and stated that her not to long ago late husband usually does the gutters, so just to make sure I got a ladder and climbed up the one story and grabbed one half of a brown lunch bag of leaves that was it so I told the customer that I can't charge you for this (which took all of five min.) so I called the owner and he said that she needs to be charged the min. $230, I said that I did nothing, well ask her if there is anything else to do to make up the 2hr. min ask if you can walk around in the house to try and find something, she said there is nothing. Well charge her $140, for what I did nothing? he was adamant about the charge so I told her and she gave me $130 in cash that she had on her, went into the house for the other ten and came back out with tears welling up in her eyes and gave it to me. I called the owner and explained all of this and he then said give the money back to her. Why did it take someone to be in tears for you to do what you should have done in the first place. She was so grateful for what I had done and mentioned to me that she was tired of being Ripped Off, you know one of those elderly people that businesses prey upon. So this is it, the typical Mr Handyman franchise buyer skill sets range varies from limited, to no skills at all. This is one of the touted selling points of Mr. Handyman Corporate! They boast about the fact that you can get into the exploding home repair business "WITH NO HOME REPAIR SKILLS!" Mr. Handyman Franchisee CULTIST are like Amway Salesmen. They pay a monthly franchise fee, a percentage of their monthly gross, corporate advertising expenses etc., to the parent company for the right to operate in a box on a map. To cover those expenses The Homeowner will be slammed on their bill; a minimum of 2 hours - $230.00, a material markup that starts at 87%, and your still on the clock when the Tech goes shopping for you at Home Depot / Lowes. When all is said and done, you'll spend $275 for a repair that a child could have done. For example, a running toilet valve; the part cost $9, but you'll pay closer to $72, with the above add-ons! Thats what allows the know - nothing franchise buyer to sit on his / her ### all day, honeing their telephone skills; so that when the unsuspecting victim calls, it is such a smooth pitch, you won't even suspect the ensueing robbery!

Mr. Handyman International Bait and switch!

We had a terrible experience with Rick the Handyman in the Rocheter, NY area. We got his name from the newspaper and called him over for a quote. The quotes were fair but once he started the work, he'd stop and say that he needed more money to complete it. He started to grout our tile, then stopped and asked for more $. He got halfway through installing a bathroom faucet and demanded more money. When I refused unless he provided a better explanation, he said "fine, I'm done" and walked out. We were left with a half-installed faucet. He pulled a straight up bait & switch tactic and left us high and dry.

Mr. Handyman International They suck

I used to work at a Mr Handyman for about a week. I was a customer service sales agent who took the phone calls. I found the rates and service a complete rip off and the product was not an easy sale, other than to the vulnerable and those who just had no other option. Today I called to get the address of the location and the dates of my employment. I called the office number and reached a girl in an entirely different city who couldn't verify her ### from a hole in the ground. She did not know the physical address of the location nor could she do anything but email someone there. I called corporate. They couldn't give the address or info either. I called again to get the same nothing for information. This company can not even verify employment on a past employee or find provide a physical address of an open for business location. The one I am speaking of is in San Rafael California (21 Golden Gate Dr #a. I was intelligent enough to find their address on the internet. I explained to all party's on all the calls I would use the internet to report my complaints against them if they would not help and they all did not mind that a bit. Seems they preferred it cuz instead of giving me the simple info... here I am telling the public they SUCK and NEVER to do business with them!

Sounds like they must have let you go for good cause since you don't know where you went to work. It also sounds like hiring you was the biggest mistake they made that week since you think making unsubstantiated comments on the Internet are going to get you so satisfaction. It is a good thing they did not keep you around to make their life miserable.

Mr. Handyman International Stay away

Called them to fix a leak in my toilet. The guy on the phone stated that it sounded like a washer had worn out from where it was leaking. He said that would be a fairly easy job. So the repair guy comes out the first time. When asked what he thought was wrong, he named a couple of different things, and this was after he looked at it.

Eventually, tells me the problems fixed but doesn't really answer my question about what was originally wrong. At that point I was just glad it was fixed. An hour after he leaves, toilet is leaking again. I call them back and find that the guy not only didn't replace a washer, but that they carry limited parts on their trucks. Repair guys excuse was that he was trying to save me money by not replacing the washer.

Okay, comes out a second time, with a washer. Turns out that wasn't the problem, and Mr. Handyman Repair Guy doesn't have a clue about what's wrong. Finally, says maybe I just need to replace the toilet and that plumbing is a hit or miss type of repair.

Bottom line, I'll never use these guys again. Unless it's something easy like sweeping my garage.

Mr. Handyman International Lies & Deception

I bought in to their "On Time - Done Right" ads but what a joke. The poor guy they sent to my house didn't know what the **** he was doing and admitted he had no training except doing some apartment maintenance. A little internet investigating later these guys are franchised and are using some guys contractors license # who lives in california, but they tell people when they call that he has a florida license. Crappy work and dishonest advertising and this cant be a legal way to do contracting.

Mr. Handyman International Total bill for forty-five real work minutes, $490

Contrary to what they advertise, Mr. Handytard franchisee buyers are hurting. They send incompetents, that can't make it, out on their own, because they lack the skills, and are lazy. Just like a DMV worker, has the balls to sit on their ### and do nothing. I blame the homeowners too; they are lazy, in that they won't do a little leg work, and ask around for someone that can do their job.

Quite frankly, if you call a Mr. Handyman type to attempt your work, you deserve to get the shaft; quality & price wise. Put some effort in HOMEOWNERS! Do a little work, and you will definitely find an excellent contractor, at an excellent price. One good thing Mr. handytard is good at, is getting the HIGHEST PRICE QUOTE for your job. Once they tell you how much it will cost, then you know you can easily find an excellent contractor at half the price!

well mr stealthy pilot it really doesn't matter that much anyways since most of your stupid franchise pretend contractors are losing their red shirts and closing up their shops. Good riddance to you yahoos.

charging old people and people who don't know better $100 an hour for work that real contractors do for $45 ain't nothing but a rip off. Word gets out and Mr Handyman is Mr Ripoff! I'll watch paint dry for $20 LOL

this guys are a total ripoff at $15 per hour much less $90! Any carpenter worth his salt doing carries basic lumber on his truck and would never charge customer for time spent watching paint dry. You paint something and drop by the next day to finish the job. Try hiring local contractors not franchise hacks and you'll pay much less and get better work. Hanging 3 hours while paint drys get real.
