I bought a female English Bulldog from Mr. Mercer a year ago. When we took her to the vet, the veterinarian said she had red mange, tape worms and a hernia. Even though we were able to get rid of the red mange, her whiskers continue to fall out fast. We also got rid of the 'Tape Worms' and they haven't returned. She has warts on the back of her right hind leg that only older dogs get due to there immune system not being as good as it used to be. The veterinarian said he had never seen a dog that young with those warts on the back of its leg (she was only like 8 weeks old). She possibly has an immune disorder. She has a large lump under her left jaw that so far is not cancerous. She has a skin condition. If she licks her paws or scratches her ear, she gets an infection. Her teeth never really grew in correctly so she swallows her food whole. She also has a missing tooth because it never grew in. Anytime she chews on a towel or one of her toys, there will be blood on it. If I look in her mouth, I don't see where the blood is coming from.

She cannot take any and all heart worm preventatives because it causes her to have 10 to 15 seizures a day. She also becomes violent on them and has bitten me, growled and has shown her teeth at me many times when she is on heart worm preventatives. The veterinarian told me that she is not to be let outside ever because of this.

We paid 2, 000 dollars for her for full AKC registration and breeding rights. The vet refused to allow us to breed her due to her health issues. I understood, but I was still very angry. I wasn't angry at the veterinarian, I was angry at Mr. Mercer.

I had her DNA tested through Embark. I wanted to know if she was a full blooded English Bulldog and what genetic disorders she might have. It came back that she had a genetic liver disorder and she was 100% English Bulldog. I don't believe that she is because she is way too tall to be a full blooded English Bulldog.

On the issue of feeding her, she can only eat Fresh Pet dog food. We feed her Fresh Pet Select. She cannot eat regular dog food because her body can't digest it. It comes out grainy and wet. She struggles to get it out which could cause her to get another hernia. She has a very high metabolism so we have to feed her more than you would normally have too feed a dog. She requires 3 pounds of Fresh Pet: Select dog food a day. I calculated the cost over 10 years and it came out to a little over 40, 000 dollars just to feed her.

Mr. Mercer did offer to take her back and give us another dog, but I couldn't just give her back after 3 months of having her. A dog is a pet to me, a member of my family, not just some object. I became attached to her when I picked her up. I also couldn't give her back because I felt she would have been breed by Mr. Mercer or sold to another family not knowing her health issues and they probably would have taken her to a shelter or abandoned her somewhere.

I am torn between having putting her down or keeping her even though I am miserable. I am heartbroken and very angry over this. This was my last dog I was ever going to be able to have due to my health.

I was forced into choosing this breeder. Please stay far away from this breeder so you don't end up feeling as miserable as I do.
