Although my family went to the food stamp office located in New Orleans, filled out papers, as wellas brough letters of award from the SSA and the VA. The VA award letter which is sent usually in Dec relative to the incoming year's award amount, which I'll attach, but we got a letter requesting a current letter of award. We therefore went to the VA and received another, which amount has not changed, but when the wife went to bring the letter as well as a request for an increase, and she was suppose to just bring it to the food stamp office. When she got there, however, instead of simply giving same to the Secretary, she had to get a number, which happened to be #90. They were on #30. My wife is disabled (bipolar), and I am also, but she is asked to go through that routine at her age and health. I am trying to understand whether its becuase we are poor, black, and/or old ... Even to ask for a simple app muct be under a number, which means waiting throughout 40-50 people whose matters are for reasons which take time. I disagree wih this routine even we get $20 worth of stamps.
