Charter College Dean bullying students

The Dean of the Anchorage campus has been bullying students and staff when they question current practices. The shift to online delivery has an abysmal 80% failure rate in a current class set. Students were threatened with academic dishonesty and honor code violations when discussing class averages. These were posted on the school app however the Dean insists this is a violation and removes students. One student has quit, another met with the Dean and will not talk with classmates while the rest of us are terrified of being kicked out of school and losing tuition if we report the abuse. Additionally, The school will not close due to an unprecedented weather event and lack of snow removal. Finally, Professors teaching practices are being dictated to by the Dean. She has insisted that instructors not provide important class materials. She stated the students need to figure it out.

Desired outcome: Dean needs to be temporarily removed pending an investigation of violating the civil rights of students free speech, title IX violations resulting in the creation of an unhealthy educational environment.

Charter College Medical assistant

I was out in the hospital for about a week and. Was told that I would have to pay 2000 more dollars to be able to come back to school because I missed 8 days in a row when I only missed 6 due to the hospital stay they had than told that they count the weekends as days missed even tho we did not attend classes on the weekend and than I was told I had to take my GED since. I didn’t not graduate high school but in the beginning before starting I had to classes that I was told was equivalent to getting my high school diploma and that I did not have to get it because of the classes I took the test that I took to find out at the end that the math and English test I did where for nothing

Desired outcome: Please be refund for all the time I wasted was for nothing

Charter College Unethical behavor

I was a student at the Oxnard location and still cannot believe how unethical and unprofessional this school is. There were some people who were super helpful, the student advisor and my dental instructor were amazing. There was a lot of employee turnover, so you never really knew who could help you. The campus atmosphere was also really negative. Students had very little resources. The advisor Jess would help with as much as she could, but you knew she was limited with what she could do. And she wasn't even the advisor for Oxnard students! My instructor Mr. Chavez always went above and beyond. But that was it. We had multiple campus presidents, the last one was very immature and very unprofessional. She was always promising to help us, but never really did anything. She also would say she would talk to the class JUST for a few minutes and stay sooooo long. That took away class time from students. Nothing she said was actually productive and just a waste of time. She never did anything said she was going to do. Other campus staff were really immature. I went to the FA office with questions about my account and the girls in there were coloring. Seriously? These people are in charge of my money? If you went to career services you would either find the campus president in there gossiping or the employees watching Netflix on their iPads. And no one was ever at the front desk! There were so many issues with my FA docs and was told to just forge my parent's signature so the forms could be processed. Isn't that illegal? I am working as a Dental Assistant, but not due to any help from career services. I guess they were too busy watching TV.
I enjoy my job but I am in a lot of debt. Since FA wanted me to forge documents I wonder if all of the debt I have is legit. It would have been better to attend a community college instead of Charter.

Charter College a person who is being racists

Hello this person has been giving me nothing but headaches and troubles. Being rude accusing me of false action just because I'm a different color. And because this person is A lighter skin tone than I am thinks that they can tell me whatever they please. And top off it's some one who is to help me get enrolled. They do you not know how to be professional.

Charter College charter college lied about credits being transferable

I attended Charter College in Oxnard in 2018, I was sceptical about signing up from the beginning. I decided to go in to the campus after receiving about 2 dozen phone calls in a week or so. I talked to the intake person, and voiced my concerns. I asked questions about transferrimg of credits to a community college I was told the units would transfer. I explained how I wanted to transfer to a University eventually to get a B.S. in HVAC Controls. Today I was told that Charter College is not accredited for community colleges. I was told specifically unots would transfer. I asked this question many times during intake and was lied too. This whole school experience was horrible. The gentleman that did my intake promised me he would be there every step of the way, shodtly after I started I call to speak him and he no longer works there. Employess in every department did not seem to stay employed long with Charter College. Every department had delays in responding and when I heard back I usually got a mesaage stating who I was messaging was nolo ger employed with Charter. I lost a good job, put a strain on my relationship. This school really does not have concerns for there students. All they are concerned about is therw money and making aure students GPA and attendance are high enough to qualify for the students Financial Aid. I dont know what can be done I really want people to use caution when attending Charter College.

Hi Craig,
As we stated on Facebook, we cannot guarantee the transfer of credit to any institution – community college or otherwise – as this decision lies entirely with the accepting school. However, we are always happy to help our graduates and former students with the necessary documentation to request such transfers. We have had individuals successfully transfer credit to other schools.
Our primary concern is and always will be the success of our students and graduates and we once again invite you to connect with the Oxnard Campus President so that we may further discuss your experiences and the concerns you have outlined within your posts. You may connect with the President at 805.973.1240.
We look forward to speaking with you.

Charter College lack of proper education, failure to assist in helping students attaining the job in the chosen career.

I attended Charter College for almost three years. I was told that upon graduation I would be CCNA qualified and ready to take the exam. This and a whole alphabet soup of certifications would certainly land me a choice job in the chosen career. This is what was told to me.
I spent three years attending this school. I am over sixty thousand in debt for a degree that no one honors. Career placements helps you find a job alright... part time for minimum wage. Then they wash their hands of you.
I am looking into finding a lawyer to fight in a case of litigation. This college must be shut down...

I wonder Brandi A at the audacity that you so openly display toward the students and former students. Have you yourself even attempted to help resolve some of these issues. Or will you just tout the lines your masters quote. The person and or persons working your much vaunted Career Services lack the imagination, passion or capabilities needed for said position. After having dealt with Career Services on the two times after my graduation, I walked away from those meeting with the same feeling that there was a foreign material stuck on the bottom of my shoe reminisce of something dropped from a worm infested, disease ridden cancer laced dog. You know the kind I'm talking about.. .. .. the one where you think it is best if you are better off throwing the shoe away. That is the same feeling I get when dealing with Career Services. THEY DO NOTHING FOR THE STUDENTS AND FORMER STUDENTS !

I got a better idea, miss Brandi A. why don't I go down to the lawyers office and see how much of a litigation case I have against your Charter College. It would certainly bring the college out in the open and shed some light on that viperous den of snakes that infest the management running it. At least the public would get full notice the way Charter College is operated. I would expect student enlistment would drop a good 50% of a already lackluster organization. Of course that might just shut down the whole college system. The bad news alone would be enough to get the government to investigate all of the schools. What do you think about that?

I went to charter college and graduated in 2009. I took legal assistanting certification and I graduated with 3.0. They made promises they never kept. They never assisted nor placed me in a legal feild. They never helped me get any placement. They didn't even call me to ask if I need placement after I graduated. Now i'm just stuck with this huge student loan I can't even afford to pay. I don't know what to do now.

Charter College broken promises

I was told for the Medical Assisting program, at the new campus in Yakima WA, that students would have four days on campus, so plenty of teacher help. I was told there was a tutoring program. I was told that they REALLY help you prepare for the NCCT exam, with what they call boot camps.

Somehow they snuck in their own loan to me as well. I was told about a matching funds program. Whatever you pay in cash, they match. Part of this was my own fault as I didn't, and really couldn't, read all of the contracts information. Everything, from interview to sign up is done via web chat.
So now, I wanted to know how much in student loans I would owe if I withdrew...but was told until I did withdraw they could not inform me of the amount, and even at that it would take 45 days, all the while accruing interest for them. I was told, that even though I had returned from an extended illness intending to complete the program, but I did not attend one class at all, that logging in counted as attendance.

I barely did any work and got a B to C average. Other students were rewarded just for trying and finishing. There is no entrance exam and several students in my group had reading comprehension issues. They asked for help and were told if they just read the material it would become clear. We were also told that we could reach our instructors quickly and easily when not on campus. This only happened with someone with a teaching degree. No one else could give time, and some instructors knew less about the software than the students.

You may end up spending more, but go to a community college or university that is not for profit. Charter College is collecting money and giving students the run around, preying on some without the language skills, or some that may be somewhat challenged mentally.

Brandi - an e-pod is not a flesh and blood, face to face, on campus tutor, which we students were lead to believe we're available.
My father was an educator for over 26 years and you must adjust your curriculum for every learning style. But, since it is a for profit school they don't care.

I notice you didn't address the bait and switch tactics the salespeople use, or the fact that, without signing the schools financial aid paperwork, you cannot get even an estimate, where, non profit schools can. The entire idea behind signing the paperwork is to get every student signed up for a loan from Charter, even though, some, like me, really didn't need it. But that's where the "for profit" part comes in Shannon Moates stated. So she admitted they sign you up for a loan from the school, which they SELL as a gift matching program, and it's usually the same amount for every student.

If I received the goods I was promised, I would not be disappointed and so damn angry. The entire for profit school system is a sham. It's a certificate mill, where none of the credits transfer, despite everyone's hard work. I was promised, as my fellow students were, on site tutoring, quick responses from all instructors, instructors that were knowledgeable...which I gathered from what was said, it meant in the schools online programs. We were promised four campus days to start then halfway through, only three. That sounded like a lot of time with the instructors, so that was appealing to me. We were promised boot camps to help us get ready for the NCCT exam. Charter doesn't care about training. If people do poorly, the school gets more money. If we don't pass the NCCT exam the first time, then we have to pay.

There is no entrance exam, and students who may not have English as their first language are struggling terribly, as are students with low reading comprehension.

Don't give me the company line about we care. Because Charter does not. I have contacted the Governor, my state Senator, the Washington state Board of Education, and the state's Attorney General and filed complaints. Shannon Moates wanted copies of those letters. I am certain Washington States Attorney General will send a copy to those that need it. I am also filing a complaint with the Alaska Governor, the Alaska State Attorney General, and the Alaska Board of Education, where the school's main base of operations is. All of you that work there should be ashamed to rush people through the application process, telling them that if they don't hurry up and sign, they may have a three month or more wait, when a new group starts every month.

So roughly $3, 000 in a loan from the school, listed as a matching program and sold that way, x say 200 students in a year on the Yakima campus. This a nice sum. Then I read that EMPLOYEES have brought a class action case against the school in several states for non-payment. I am assumption my it's incentive bonuses and the like.

I do not want ANYONE from the school talking to me, calling me, writing to me, wanting to meet with me etc. If that happens I will file harassment charges. I have retained an attorney. You WILL NOT be auto debuting the April payment as Shannon Moates stated, or, my attorney will have quite a problem with that.

I told the school from the beginning that I was on disability and wanting to learn a new career. Then Shannon Moates asks, why didn't I tell anyone of my health issues. I did, as I said, from day one of the enrollment "interview" which was all for show. That school takes everyone.

Typical Bait and Switch tactics, and I used to work in retail. Broken promises, lies, and greed is what fuels all of the Charter Colleges in the U.S.. Do not go to Charter College - it is a money wasting scam!

Charter College dental assisting program/staff/corporate

I started the DA program in January of 2015 at Charter College Oxnard Campus. Everything was going smooth up until June-July of 2015 during my radiology class. I was taking Radiology I and II and we were to have to practical patients per class to perform an FMX on. I found my four patients and had to have their dentist sign them off that they were allowed to have x-rays based off of their personal dental records and the dental state board. I completed three patients and my fourth patient was missing one tooth in the upper arch and my teacher told me she couldn't be my patient for that reason. I don't understand why she couldn't if the dentist had signed her off for me to do so. THIS IS WHY WE HAD TO GET PATIENTS SIGNED OFF. I'm positive my dentist knows the requirements of the dental state board. My patient was my mom and her and I asked the dentist what is going to happen now and she said she would get me set up with a student to be my patient. After countless emails to her trying to schedule a day, she never got back to me. Ultimately I failed the class and got charged to retake the class. The teacher teaching this class QUIT working for Charter College as Dental Assistant Program Coordinator in November 2015. I feel this wasn't my fault at all. I'm not sure if it's too late to get this problem resolved or if I can fight it. I was supposed to graduate in October 2015 and I finished all of my classes besides the Radiology one I failed and my externship and this left me finished otherwise in September 2015. I had to sit out until the Radiology came back around in December 2015. And now leaving me to graduate in February of 2016. I ended up transferring from Charter College Oxnard to Lancaster due to financial problems leaving me to move back in with my parents in Tehachapi, CA. Second complaint, I started my externship at Dr. Kerr's office on January 5th, 2016. At Dr. Kerr's, one of his hygienist, Cat Jones is my dentist's, Dr. Jones' wife and she works for both offices. On January 7th, Cat asked if I could switch my externship site to her husband's office, Dr. Jones because they want to give me a job. I emailed, texted and called my extern advisor asking questions about switching and it took her more than three days to get back to me. Telling me that it was NOT possible. I don't understand why I can't if I am the one paying for this school. After she told me it wasn't possible I contacted Charter College Lancaster Campus on Monday, January 11th 2016 asking to speak with someone other than my externship advisor and she said that she would have the Campus Manager call me. I never received a call from him so I resorted to calling the Corporate Office on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 and I spoke with a lady that didn't even care that the Lancaster employees have not been returning my calls, texts, or emails. Ultimately, the lady at the Corporate Office told me she would see what she could do and would call me back. I never heard back from her. This is my externship and I have a JOB OPPORTUNITY available to me and Charter College could care less. I have three weeks left to extern and I feel as if I will never get this resolved. If anyone could help me or tell me something I can do I would really appreciate it! If nothing happens, I will find a law office and lawyers that can help me. I don't recommend this school to anyone, I have never been through such emotional grief trying to do what is best for me. And it was a waste of money. I am not happy with this school and I wish I would have went through a different school.

Charter College staff fails at following up

In attempting to get my Associates degree in Allied Health, I've run into several issues involving communication with the staff. In trying to absolve my enrollment due to unforeseen medical issues, I'm being given the "run around" process. I've made multiple phone calls, every time being told that the people I need to speak with are unavailable. One person I finally was able to reach said it would be taken care of the following week. Decide to follow up on this mid week just to find out that nothing had been processed. I'm still technically enrolled. In trying to clear up the mess made they continued to repeatedly ask if I needed help getting started or if I didn't understand how it worked. I had to explain multiple times that I needed to be dropped from their roster. Now I'm waiting for an email to sign electronically to finish this. I'll be going in in person later if I don't receive the email.
The way the Bellingham location is operating is very sketchy and shady. They'll do anything to sign you up, but if you need help beyond that, it seems you're more than likely to end up SOL. Once you're enrolled, they don't seem to care what happens to you, unless you're the perfect student in every way humanly possible.
If I seek further education later, my money will definitely NOT be wasted on this college again.

Charter College non - accreditation

I enrolled in Charter College's Medical Assistant program, and luckily for me i discovered what a waste of time and money this place is before I actually started attending and racking up debt. After a few simple bing searches I discovered that this MA program is not accredited by CAAHEP or ABHES. Well guess what? You can't become a CERTIFIED Medical Assistant unless the program is accredited
by one of these institutions. And what a surprise, 85% of prospective employers prefer or require you be certified. So basically I would have wasted thousands of dollars and countless hours on this. Do yourself a favor, always thoroughly investigate any potential school to be sure the program you wish to enroll in has the proper accreditation otherwise you may as well literally burn your money.

I eagerly await a response from one of Charter's damage control propagandists.

Charter College staff

I am at Charter College for the second time now getting my AAS. HUGE MISTAKE! For one they have made so many mistakes on my financing that I had to take care of most of it myself and also some of their instructors do not give full instructions on assignments.
Also left several message with front desk for help from the financial department and never received a phone call back I had in several time to get it taken care of, told book store would be open until 8 at night and I went by at 7 and the bookstore was closed. I also tried to make a payment for student loans after being told I could drop it off and the front desk refused to take it.

Hello Becca,
We’re glad to hear that you successfully passed your NCCT exam and we would be happy to speak to you regarding any confusion over your outstanding balance with Charter College. As to your concerns about the transferability of credits, it is at the complete discretion of the institution students wish to transfer to. We have had graduates successfully continue their education at other institutions.

Charter College bait and switch

Like many of you, my niece was taken advantage of by Charter College. She was led to believe that she could earn her bachelor degree in accounting. They lied. She was left with a an associate degree in accounting that is worthless and is not transferable to any other college. These kind of colleges are good for vocational training and that's it. They are not good for academic degrees and their credits are not transferable to any other college. They are FOR PROFIT and that is it. She is now in debt for over $20, 000 with a worthless degree and is having to start over at a community college. She could have gone to a community college for a fraction of the cost or for free with Pell Grants. Because of her student loans she is having problems getting grants to continue her education. When looking for a college, ask if they are REGIONALLY ACCREDITED or NATIONALLY ACCREDITED. You only want Regionally Accredited schools, Nationally Accredited schools are worthless.
Here is a partial list of places to file complaints. If enough of you file complaints, then you may get the attention of the authorities. This is your only hope of getting anything done. Be specific and professional when filing your complaint. Tell them how this has affected your life and that you are now in debt but be professional. File a written complaint with Charter at the same time.

Additionally, the transferability of credits is at the complete discretion of the institution students wish to transfer to. We have had graduates successfully continue their education at other institutions.

Charter College instructor

This school has hired an accountant that has no idea what he is doing. The school believes that because he has a masters degree that he can teach. He has no teaching Experience and when a student doesn't understand he embarasses the person in class when they ask for help. This teacher spent four weeks teaching three chapters in a book then he expected us to read three chapters and do all the work and computer program work for the three chapters all done in THREE DAYS, if we don't do it we fail. This is just a small Charter College not a university but he wants to stand and lechure for hours mostly on things that are not a part of our class assignment, he doesn't realize we don't have that kind of time this is a crash course and time is important. Someone needs to tell him that he is getting paid to instruct us, show us how to do the work. If I wanted to teach myself I would have signed up for a online course.

Charter College - rip off!

Charter College is such a big scam. Promises in every direction and nothing is followed through! Im my situation a friend and I signed up for a MA program. I had originally signed up for coding but there was an opening really quick so I switched. I had to get the cost for the program for my scholarship to pay and they sent the wrong information. They still...

Charter College - ripping people off

Credits don't transfer when we were told they did. They promised job placement when there is none. They don't place medical assistants in medical offices. They place them anywhere like assisted living. Graduation promises not held up. They say anything to get you to sign up and then they don't follow through with their promises. They are constantly changing...

Charter College - bait and switch

Charter College advertises MICB class but teaches very (and I do mean very) little coding or billing. I spent over $15000, and recieved a 4.0 without doing much work. This is because most of the instruction is for front office work which really does not require training. And they had no problem telling us that the companies starting pay is $10-12 to start...

Charter College in general

I have been attending this school for 2 years part-time. I have never had problems with this school until the last 6 months. The teachers and staff change constantly. Some of them are severly incompetent. I have filed complaints, and received no feedback or seen any change. The corporate office makes no effort to notify their students of policy changes in a timely manner. The most recent, and infuriating example of this thoughtlessness has to do with my financial aide. I filed a loan stipend request out last Tuesday. I was told as long as the request is submitted by 3:00 Tuesday afternoons, that it would be processed and available by that Friday. That Friday came, and there was no money. I called my school's financial aide coordinator, and proceeded to inform me that the policy had changed, and that requests had to be turned in before noon. I was furious, but she assured me that it would be available to me the following week. I called today to make sure it was processed, and she me it was, but that the corporate office had just emailed her today to inform her that money would not be available until Monday. Are you kidding me?! Some students, like myself, have fallen on hard times, and need that money to help pay bills!

There was a policy change in how stipends are handled which came down right in the midst of deadlines and caused some challenges for a number of campuses. We apologize for the misunderstanding and our understanding is that you’ve been brought up to date.

Please don’t forget – stipend money, is simply money you’re borrowing and adding to your loans in excess of the current tuition that’s due. You can always turn that back to the Government and save yourself some money after you graduate.

Charter College harrasment, policies, racism and policies

I've been going to this school for 8months now i'm almost done i've never said anything to someone at that school because I thing going to someone above maybe is best? Well even thouigh im almost finished.. I hate that I ever found this place called "succes" its the total opposite. They are only there to take your money, grades, money and dignity. Since i've been going to charter my whole way of thinking has changed.. I never thought a school can be so.. Controlling, so irrational, such liars! Greedy, racist! Harrasing crew of "empolyees"? A few teacher has looked at me funny.. Said some things to other students that they talk to during break, caused arguments with me. Pinpointed the things I did, stalked my stay, screened and ignored my visit and phone call when I did call and say it was regarding staff.. He never got back to me but iu never made it an issue because I was almost done.. Anyways I want this school to close down or get a whole new set of smart, equal honest people who have a conciouness cause this school definetly doesnt

Hi 102712,
We’re very happy to hear that you found a job in your field after graduation. However, we do find your comments very concerning and while we do not guarantee job placement after graduation all of our graduates should be provided with job placement assistance from our Career Services team. We encourage you to reach out to your campus directly so that we may further discuss your concerns and make any appropriate changes.

Charter college is a waste of money my fiancé and I attended charter college 2012-13. They promise to teach everything you will need to know in medical field (lies) and to provide jobs upon graduation(lies) yet many teacher councilers addmistrators do not care for students. And the teachers that do care they fired and treated poorly. While attending g the school we witnessed teachers giving grades to students who didn't desevre them and discrimination and a lot of times picking favorites. It felt like high school drama
All the time and not learning place at all. Sad to say would never recommend this school to anyone. Many fellow students and my fiancé and self were not helped to find jobs and instead found our own jobs and once did school would harasse us into telling them ware we work so they can send students there and calling our jobs saying we referd the college to call our NEW job! So unprofessional ... And graduation well it was horrible! Shut this school down its a joke not a college at all!

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I am so happy that you all have posted these comments for all to read. I had an appointment with the Assistant Director at Charter College, Lancaster, CA, and I have cancelled that appointment after much research here on the internet. I appreciate people that take the time out to write their experiences so that other people can be made aware of companies that are out to swindle people. There are too many reputable companies out there for us to go to and obtain a real education that can be utilized. I had been told that this school was not accredited by a family member, but thought they may be wrong. Now, after reading these post I know that what she was trying to tell me was true. I think I will keep researching and will take my business elsewhere. Anyone else that reads these posted comments should also TAKE HEED!
Sincerely,
THE ONE WHO LISTENED AND ACTED ON WHAT SHE LEARNED...God bless to all those seeking to better themselves, Don't give up!

i agree with all of you.charter college is an absolute waste of your time and money. i invested alot of my time and money in charter college lancaster campus and canyon coontry campus. i maintained a 4.0 GPA through out all of my schooling never missed a single day. the teachers and the rest of the staff members give 2 ### about there students and there well doing in there education. all they care abolut is the money. whenever i had a concern or issue and i called them i could never get ahold of them i would leave voicemails and everything, but sure enough when they wanted there money or if it was an issue that only pertained to them they have all the time in the world to make calls consistenly and harrass the students, but if it was an issue of ours they wont lift a damn finger. its really ashamed that people look foward to bettering themselves and for charter college to rip students off. i have to admit it was a nightmare long story short. as far as shutting it down they should. i have to say i now go to the university of antelope valley and couldnt be happier. the staff teachers, etc are really involved with helping there students have a fantastic outcome and are in it to see their students better themselves and reaching their goals. i have not met one person that went to charter college that are happy with their outcome. i just hope that something gets done
