Visiting Chanel made me think of “Seinfeld” and the Soup Nazi’s catchphrase “No soup for you!”
After a morning hiking, I ventured into the new Chanel in Aspen, where I met the "trainer,” who had likely flown in from corporate headquarters. Since I rarely hike in stilettos and Chanel couture gowns, I presented as myself in a mountaineering outfit.
After inspecting me, the"trainer"proceeded to interrogate me: “Where are you from? Have you ever shopped in Chanel? Who is your Florida fashion advisor?” I cut my visit short because I felt unwelcome
When I gave Chanel a second try, I wore my tennis outfit. A guard looked me over, held the door shut, and informed me that no one was available to assist me. “No soup for me!”
No store has ever denied me access before. I am a good Chanel customer for decades. Incidentally, Aspenites routinely shop in hiking clothes, active wear, workout outfits. Perhaps a trainer should do a little due diligence before doing the"Soup Nazi" routine.
