My biggest concern was a billable-hours-first operating model that repeatedly prioritized utilization and account growth over reliable execution, consistent quality, efficient output, and dependable delivery. Carimus's hourly rates were generally lower than those of several other agencies I experienced, but I would not judge the value by hourly rate alone. A lower rate can be outweighed when client capacity is consumed by repeated ramp-up, inconsistent senior coverage, slow execution, and experienced employees correcting earlier work.

Across multiple accounts and the broader client portfolio I could directly observe, billable hours, account growth, and utilization targets repeatedly received more emphasis than client needs, reliable delivery, and quality. On one major account, the client wanted a controlled, predictable level of routine work and billing while preserving part of its budget for future projects and emergencies. Leadership repeatedly pushed to perform and log substantially more billable work despite the client's preference to keep routine spending at a lower, controlled pace. A month could be operating as the client intended and still be treated internally as a problem because it was not generating enough billable hours.

I also repeatedly observed complex technical work assigned to junior employees without dependable senior guidance or stable ownership. On one account, assignments expected to take roughly a day could remain unfinished for several days, and an experienced engineer sometimes had to refactor or redo the resulting work. I raised the issue repeatedly before meaningful corrective action occurred. The original work consumed client capacity, and the correction consumed additional capacity.

This was broader than one employee. Smaller accounts could experience repeated staffing changes among junior, outside, and senior resources. Each transition meant another person learning the system, rediscovering prior decisions, and rebuilding context. That created delays, ramp-up, rework, and additional maintenance effort. I also heard smaller clients discussed internally in terms of whether the revenue they generated justified the attention they required, and stronger resources could be pulled toward larger accounts.

Overall, I would not recommend Carimus to clients who expect their budgets to be managed primarily around their actual needs, stable senior employees to remain familiar with their work, or delivery teams to prioritize completing high-quality work efficiently.

Recommendation: I would approach Carimus cautiously and make sure you understand exactly how your account will be staffed, managed, and billed. I would also require detailed transparency around staffing, billing, and account management to ensure your budget is being used appropriately. Ask who will actually perform the work, how much will be handled by junior versus senior staff, how often resources may be rotated on and off the account, and how continuity will be maintained when staffing changes. Require a weekly billing report showing which specific person worked on each task, how many hours that person billed, what those hours were for, and whether any of the time involved onboarding, ramp-up, troubleshooting, rework, or correcting someone else’s work. Also ask how junior ramp-up, senior correction, internal mistakes, and overruns are treated financially, and whether the company will absorb time caused by its own execution problems rather than pass that cost back to the client. Require clear approval before additional people are added to the account or work is pulled forward from future periods, so unused billable capacity does not quietly become additional client spending. Finally, ask how smaller accounts are prioritized against larger ones, and require regular budget-to-work reporting showing whether spending is tied to completed or necessary work rather than simply tracking toward internal utilization or revenue targets.
