My family had planned a vacation to South Texas from Indiana. I reserved, and fully paid for a mini van a full month before our vacation. I was to pick the van up at the Cincinnati/N. Kentucky airport at 3pm on the day before our trip was to begin. We were driving to Texas as we had so much to take, fishing gear, coolers, and the like. After waiting in line for over an hour, I got to the counter only to be told that they did not have a vehicle for me. The young man at the counter said that they found my reservation but that corporate had not sent them enough vehicles. WHAT? The young man at the counter was pleasant and apologetic and offered me a sedan, pickup truck, or Expedition in lieu of the mini van. The first two would not work to haul 7 people and all our stuff. The Expedition sucks gas. I said I could take the Expedition if they gave me a gasoline voucher to compensate for the extra fuel cost. That was a resounding NO. During the next hour, I waited for them to "find" something. I enquired at the Budget counter if I could just have the rental fee returned to my credit card, immediately, so I could get a rental from another company. I was told it would take several days to return my money. It sure didn't take them several days to TAKE my money when I prepaid. Miraculously, they found a mini van for me. At this point I was stressed and upset. I thought our vacation was not going to happen, all that money wasted because Budget didn't get us a vehicle so I wasted no time jumping in the vehicle and taking off. Before I even got out of the airport, I noticed a tire warning light on. One of the tires was below the recommended pressure. I did not think it was a big deal. I have to put air occasionally in my own car tires so I drove home, parked the van and started loading for the trip the next morning. The next morning, I left to go pick up my daughter and grandchildren for the trip. The light was still on but the pressure indicator showed only a drop of a couple pounds of pressure so I still was not concerned. I stopped at a gas station and put air in the tire. I picked up my daughter and the kids and headed out. We got about 200 miles away, and I noticed the tire pressure had started to drop. Not drastically so no concern. At 400 miles, it was a concern. I had to put air in the tire again. I ran my hand over the tire, checking for nails, nothing. All the way to Texas, I had to keep stopping to put air in the tire. At one of the stops a man saw me putting air in and asked if he could help. I told him what had been happening and, like I did, ran his hand over the tire. He found the nail hidden between the tire treads. I had two options, try to get to our destination and hope the tire held, or try to find a mechanic or tire shop, in a place where I was unfamiliar, with my grandchildren waiting "to get there yet" and get the tire fixed. We got to our destination and I called Budget to see about fixing the tire. The dim witted woman was dismissive and anything but helpful. She expected me to take care of getting the tire fixed, without any reimbursement for the expense. There is no place within an hours drive to get it fixed and I do not appreciate losing a day of my vacation taking care of fixing a tire that was damaged when Budget provided the vehicle. If I had picked up a nail DURING my drive, I would be responsible and would take care of the issue, but they gave it to me damaged! NEVER AGAIN WILL I USE BUDGET!
