Had the misfortune to engage Boon Jie company for our BTO 4 room renovation. I am not sure how did my husband and I find out about their company but we did go to their office in Mandai Link and they seems very trustworthy and nice people. We decided to go ahead with them cause their quotation was cheap and affordable for us. I seriously wish I could turn back time and not engage them seriously.

The total reno cost was $12, 300. We had to pay a deposit of $500 to confirm. Few weeks later they ask for another $300 which we submissively gave. As stated from the contract we had to pay half of the reno cost before they start work. We paid another $4500 before starting work and after handing the keys. So total we paid was $5300 to them.

After handing in the keys and money they started MIA on us. Calls and messages were unresponsive. I had to spam to get through to them him rather. Our point of contact was the owner's son, Ming Jie. Everytime he said his worker will go down and do work, but when I go to check the house was empty and fresh like how HDB has handed it to us. Kept asking and no reply.

Obviously, it was then that I realised I was being "scammed" or something. I dropped him a text saying that I wanted to terminate the contract. The contract states that I only have to pay 10% of reno fees if either party terminates them. I have paid more that 10%.

He reply me next day and told me he will refund within 7 days. I waited and on the 6th day I asked when exactly he is going to pay me back he said his finance team were working from home and can only confirm the next day.

The next day - the 7th day, I asked for it again. He said they wont refund me instead they will finish up the reno. I was like what the [censored] seriously. Does he not understand I wanted to terminate the contract? and I just want the balance of money back.

In the end he suggested I went to SCT. I did and file a claim with SCT. Our first court date was supposed to be in May but due to CB, it was adjourned to August. Recently we went to the SCT, and he agreed to pay back $3200 by a specific date. Court order was then given.

Despite the court order, he still refuses to pay me back. I now have to enforce the court order on him.

I have since engaged another ID and company which are ACRA-certified. whst Design. (Definitely learnt my lesson). Thank god this company managed to do up our house - we have to fork up another amount but at least the work is being done and we dont have to worry about people running away etc.

So please, whoever wishes to engage Boon Jie Design & Renovations LLP, please do it at your own risk! It is seriously not worth it. Unless you want to have your money and time being wasted then please engage them. Do not fall for their monthly instalment gimmick. They are only responsive if they want money. They can even defy court order.

Fyi, police report has been made beforehand, but they cannot do anything. CASE was notified but they can only mediate for us. Even went to SCT and they still defy court order.

How come companies like this are still operational? Shouldn't the law do something about this? Cause im definitely not the only victim.

Just searched them in google and you can see many bad reviews on them MIA etc. I definitely should have done it before engaging them.

Hi there! Sorry to hear that. Did you go to SCT?

For my case, it went to SCT and they were asked to pay back the sum by a specific date.

However, he only paid on the last date that was given by the court. You can enforce court order if he still didnt manage to pay back the money by the given date given by the court.

Hi! really appreciate the prompt advice.

Do you think we could have a chat to understand how you go through the SCT and what to file and expect? I read through the SCT website but thought good to understand better if possible. Could you share with me your email and we could do this over Zoom or something? Thank you.

Best Regards
