I was a member of the Better Business Bureau for almost 10 years. I was a member as I feel the consumer should have some area of redress without getting the legal system involved. Was I shocked when I filled a complaint against American Furniture Warehouse with the BBB and found out that all they had to do was respond to my letter! No satisfaction, no arbitration or mediation, only write a letter! A letter that said, American Furniture Warehouse did not want my business!

I tried to talk to supervisors at the BBB but the phone system did not offer me that opportunity. Later I was talking to a news reporter about business and I mentioned my experience with the BBB. Six months later (9 months after the complaint) the director calls me to tell me I'm wrong, I should have been offered mediation. As a person who relies on my reputation for business, I felt the BBB director should have done a better job of hiring and managing the employees. Regardless, in Colorado Springs the consumer is without representation. Since American Furniture Warehouse is still a member and treats consumers (and other members) like I was treated, I seriously doubt if the BBB would have done anything to them. Your WEB site has many unresolved complaints against American Furniture Warehouse, which supports this point.

I choose to be only associated with things I respect and have dropped the BBB logo from all my advertising. I feel the BBB logo is not something I want to be associated with. I feel that the BBB did not want to anger American Furniture Warehouse so choose to blow me off instead.

After reading Don's experience with the BBB in Colorado Springs, I gave up my plan to contact them to report a lousy service provided by The Carlson Company ( Toxicology Lab ). Apparently I would lose time and would be disappointed.
It is very unfortunate that BBB seems not to remember their purpose.

I have always shopped at American Furniture Warehouse and have never had an issue with their service or employees. I have to assume that perhaps there is something missing from your complaints toward them. Are you sure you were not part of the problem? I have learned through many years handling complaints in a call center that customers have a tendency to want to overide companies policies and pretend they are the only customer. When they don't get what they want, usually unreasonable requests, consumers are more than willing to cry bad customer service. I say be honest, understranding and realize that nothing in life is perfect.

Well the bbb of Southern Colorado does nothing but extort money for an A rating any way. I have a business in Colorado springs that has been open for a year and a half and I have a b plus rating. I was told it was because of my lenght of time being open. I know of another business that does the same kind of work that has only been open for a little more then 2 years and they have an A rating. I called the BBB and was told by one person that it doesnt matter if you were a member or not, that everyone was treated the same as getting a rating. Then i called again and was told that it did matter if i was a member and that my rating would be better if I was a member and that I could pay a discounted rate of $250.00 and my rating would be better. I slao know of a business that does the same thing as my business that called because they had a C- rating and they called the BBB the same day and paid to become a member and they now have an A- rating. The BBB of southern Colorado is a joke that cares more about the money then being an advocate for consumers and businesses. Call them and ask how you can make a complaint about them and you will be laughed at .

I have never had an issue with AFW they came out to repair my coach under my warranty. I am really sad I still don't have the warranty.

This is a really big issue that should be address. The Telephone Centre, Inc - I received a letter address to me with no return address with a check for $4, 450.00 Luckily I am aware of scams but this is a real issue someone can really be taken advantage of with these types letters floating around. This could be your grandmother that deposits this check or ederly father. We need to put a stop to this type of items floating around. Royal Oaks Promotions Lottery and Sweepstakes Services sent this out to me stating I won 250, 000.00 US dollars. Yeah Right. This is a joke. Looks legit and you can google The Telephone Centre, Inc. Mike Foust is the President the check is not signed by this guy. You can't even tell who signed it. The tax amount is 2500.00 and then 900 Us dollars you have to send this in two forms of payment one is western Union and the other is Money gram in the UK. Money is release to you as soon as your clearence fee is paid. Yeah as soon as the check clears your account the other persons bank stops your payment. I read up on these scams. Please tell everyone you know so they don't fall victim to this type of scam.

What can be done about the "Factory Warrenty expiration" phone calls that are being received at work? Most of the 100 + employees in my building are receiving these calls also. Speaking to the caller results in being hung up on, and pushing the #2 to be removed from the call list does not seem to remove anything.

Are these calls legal? If not why is nothing being done? If so, how do you remove your number from these individuals?

I agree, AFW has terrible customer service. The representative actually hung up the phone on me like she was 12 and refused to pick up my next calls. She said I cursed her out (a lie) and that there's no way they can waive a delivery cancellation charge. You're telling me I just dropped 2 grand in cash at your store and you cant waive a $25 cancellation charge? Thats what I call "Superior customer service". Thanks AFW, you lost a customer.

Add me to the ever-growing list of AFW-haters. That place is disgusting. While I was not discriminated against - I too experienced nearly the same situation as Ms. Lee.

The BBB has done nothing about it to this point. I received a hateful, snide reply from someone at AFW name Rob Naish. They obviously don't know the meaning of "customer service". I am more than willing to keep more people informed of the unethical business of American Furniture Warehouse.
