The owner of Benderson Development, Nathan Benderson, has ripped off my company, and held us responsible for damages done on behalf of his own company. As a local Sarasota resident and business owner, my dental office has been in operation for over 10 years. We’ve established relationships with our patients that are truly important to us, and our motto has always been to meet the needs of our patients first.
About four years ago, we began leasing what appeared to be a clean and professional space from Benderson Development. In no time at all, we realized what a horrible situation we were in. Beneath new carpet were layers of mildew ridden carpet. We called immediately and requested that they remove the old carpet and replace with carpet suitable for a professional medical setting. These guys are like dirty crooks who dress up in suits.
Nathan Benderson threw his lawyers at us - who told us outright that we were responsible for any “damages” to the leasing space. We would have moved at that time – but we were locked down into a 10 year leasing agreement. Before the recession hit, paying for molding smelly carpet wouldn't have left me for broke.
After speaking with many locals and friends across the Sarasota area, we all know the truth about Benderson Development – they leave their tenants in horrible situations and then force them to pay for damages. They also jack up lease rates so high to keep only a certain clientele. They are greedy, ruthless people who only care about themselves and could care less about their tenants. Our dentist office may be forced to close after 10 successful years.
Stay far away from Nathan Benderson and Benderson Development – they are slumlords at heart. Horrible, shady people!

I worked for landscaping company called TLS who had an exclusive contract with Benderson Development. On his behalf, we were worked like slaves 6 days a week 12 hours a day. Benderson could care less who's orthopedic health he destroyed. All the employees were denied medical benefits except for the higher ups who owned the landscaping company. Any employees who got injured on the job and sought compensation were threatened with legal action. Benderson's landscaping company literally told one injured employee to go ahead and sue them because they would get nowhere. I am 55 years old and my life is a total mess because of what they did to my back. They consider people human cattle to be used for what they were worth and disposed of just the same. They dumped things illegally behind their malls and there were OHSHA violations left and right. My recommendation to anyone considering working for Benderson or any of his satellite contractors would be to stay far away. You will be overworked and very underpaid. We were insulted regularly and called dumb dummies when we wised up and left his crappy jobs.
P.S. The Goyim know Nathan...shut it down.
Nathan Benderson and his team of executive crooks at Benderson Development are the epitome of greed and corruption. They honestly don't care about anyone or anything other than how much more money they can make at the expense of others. The trouble is that they're so good at pulling the wool over everyone's eyes!
I've heard several complaints about the company over the years about many different issues - not fixing maintenance issues (just like what happened to you), raising rents when other tenants in their strip malls leave, flat-out lying and promising economic growth to an area if they are approved to build one of their plazas when they haven't even secured tenants for the spaces. It's terrible!
I hope you get out of that mess and find a great new location and leave Benderson Development high and dry. Nathan Benderson is a scam artist at heart and deserves to feel the same pinch that so many of his tenants have felt because of his greed.
