I sent the company a clean manuscript and weeks later got a "proof" back with parts missing, wrong page numbers in the table of contents and designation of a nonfiction book as fiction on the copyright page. I tried again and got a pdf with large blank spaces on pages with jpeg illustrations. I was then promised that it would be assigned to their "best editor". A month later, I have had no response to emails. What other business sends customers to the back of the line when their employees make mistakes?
Desired outcome: Refund of $3900 paid to the company and release from the publishing contract.
