Between 11/30-12/6 my family went out of the country on a cruise. Because we did not want to pay for roaming fees we turned off cellular on all devices and purchased the ability to use an app to communicate with our group which required us to keep the phones off airplane mode. We kept only the device/s in airplane mode that we had no intentions of communicating on, but even that device was billed roaming fees. Despite not using cellular the entire time At&T charged us roughly $400-$500 in roaming fees during that time frame, even on the phone that was in airplane mode. I have contacted them twice today December 19 2025 and they refused to work with us on this as they stated the charges are legitimate. I do not beleive I should have to pay roaming fees when our phones' celluar is disabled. They never gave us any indication that we would be billed roaming fees despite this, and stated that they sent us a text which we cannot receive because cellular was turned off.
Desired outcome: I would like the roaming fees to be refunded or at the very worst discounted.
