This review was chosen algorithmically as the most valued customer feedback.

This complaint does not relate in any way to visa or mastercard, whose names this illegal robocaller is using without permission. It relates solely to the illegal robocaller whose message identifies it as from "alert system with visa mastercard."

I have gotten numerous recorded calls from "alert system with visa mastercard" despite being on the do not call list. These recorded calls are placed illegally, in violation of the do not call law, from spoofed phone numbers to avoid being reported & sued.

I previously pretended interest in their service and was asked for the last 4 digits of my credit card number, last 4 digits of my social security number, and phone number of the bank that issued my credit card. This information could conceivably be used for identity theft according to "can I give away the last four numbers of my social security number?" identity thieves can use computer algorithms to predict the first five digits of the social security number of people born after 1989 to which they can add the last 4 for which "alert system with visa mastercard" asked. "guard the last 4 digits of your social security number - they may be all id thieves need" adds, "if someone asks for the last four digits, you're basically turning over the keys... If it's a sophisticated criminal, that's all they need."

"alert system with visa mastercard" might on the other hand just be a phony debt relief service like rachel from cardholder services as described by the federal trade commission: "according to the ftc, life management services [the entity behind rachel from cardholder services] swindled people out of their money by offering two types of phony debt relief: credit card interest rate reduction services and credit card debt elimination services. The company promised lower interest rates or government funds to pay off debt, and asked people to make initial payments ranging from $500 to $20, 000. But almost no one got the help that was promised."

Anybody who makes illegal robocalls, won't give you a working call-back number (they hang up on you if you ask), and has no verifiable web site (they hang up on you if you ask) is at best a scammer and possibly a thief.

It would be nice if we had a real government. The people responsible need to be apprehended, tried and jailed for at least 2 years first offense. These calls are costing this nation literally tens of billions each year in lost productivity, not to mention the injury to our quality of life. I refuse to accept this bs cannot be stopped, if our legislators mustered the will, instead of devoting all of their energies on getting re-elected.

Its all about the technology, each phone system has their own way of accepting and passing calls around. This has to be captured at the provider level which requires many companies to implement a solution. Since they spoof numbers its practically impossible to enable a feature that can block by number. Since they spoof via different locations/ips and countries its difficult to determine which calls are real and which are robocalls - except if there were a way to report them and do an aggregation of the number of calls being made from a number which most providers try and capture but its a thin line - people freak out if you make a mistake and block the wrong calls. It's as variable as our ability to capture and stop malware/spyware - an insurmountable task and frankly laws won't stop it, criminals don't care about laws and this is a job to most of them... the best we can do - hang up, if people make a general rule of NEVER buying anything from anyone who calls you without your request - hangup. If you wonder, google for the real number and call them back - really this is a situation where the responsibility is one each of us, not the government - we have to responsible and educate other and use common sense... imo - fyi: I am a software engineer and already tried to solve this with tech...

I just started getting these on my work line. I get at least 2 a day now. Very annoying. If somebody finds out where these jerks live, let me know. I have a shotgun I want them to see up close. :-)

I think what they do is basically apply for a credit card in your name. Then they keep the referral fee to themselves. What needs to be investigated is Visa/Mastercard handing out large number of referrals to certain companies. Imagine if a robocaller signed up 100, 000 credit cards and got $150 referral fee on each one.

Imagine how many robocalls you would get if Visa/Mastercard found out the referrals were being done illegally and decided to not pay these scammers.

How do we stop them? I get them 5 times a day from different numbers. Some are local and some out of town. With my daughter looking for a post graduation job, I have to answer the phone. We too are on the do not call list, but I don't think that even works.

I know your pain. I get the spoofed calls. I also get calls from the people who were called by my spoofed number. Volume of calls is increasing. The load on the system generated by all the back and forth calling must be huge.

This has been happening to me as well on my cell with stolen numbers that my spam call detector sees as legitimate calls. They come through with random names and despite blocking every call that has come in they are still cloning other numbers and calling me in this fashion. I too am on the do not call list... What can be done? This is getting ridiculous...

the more you block the legitimate numbers the more they will call you. I just look up the numbers on the computer if they come back as legitimate then i do not block and they stop calling.
