I enrolled at Atlantic International University (AIU) in good faith, based on their claims of being a respected, international, and supportive institution. I paid thousands of dollars and completed my degree, believing it would be recognized for higher education or employment.
Only after graduation did I discover that the degree is not recognized in my country and is essentially useless for my career. This caused significant emotional, financial, and professional damage.
I contacted AIU and requested a refund. They offered an alternative validation process through another institution in Mexico, but it is lengthy (1–3 years), uncertain, and not what I originally agreed to or paid for. I declined this offer, clearly stated I want a full refund and apology, and pursued complaints through the Hawaii Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs (DCCA), BBB, and others.
Despite several messages, AIU’s responses have remained dismissive. I am now escalating the complaint publicly.
