On October 27, 2023 Security was called on my wife by someone on your nursing staff. Here is what happened:

My 92 year old mother-in-law, Mary Scalzitti, Room 153, is recovering from a stroke (Your surgical team had done a marvelous job clearing an obstruction in her carotid artery on October 23, 2023). And the nurses have been there for every concern for Mary as far as we could see. Thank you.

However, when we came to visit Mary on October 27, 2023, around 5pm, my wife found a balled-up 'something' laying on the chair next to her mother's bed. In order to sit down, and not knowing what was balled-up, my wife placed it to the side of the door, no where near any line of traffic. Was it laundry? Was it trash? She didn't know. She simply placed it there out of the way in order to sit and talk with her mom.

Within, we estimate, about 15 or 20 minutes, a Security Officer entered the room asking "Who did this?" We asked, "Who did what?" He stopped himself, looked around and said, "I think I have the wrong room", and left briefly. He then quickly returned and asked "Who put this here?" (referring to the balled-up 'something') My wife said that it was her and asked what was the issue.

He responded shaking his head in disbelief, "Evidently someone thinks it is a tripping hazard."

We ask you, why was Security called for this concern? What motivated someone to reach out to Security for this? When we asked her mom's nurse why they felt the need to call Security, (her name begins with and 'E' and it is on the wipe board), she simply turned around and walked away. No comment. Just turned and walked away.

We ask you then, why was Security called? Don't they have more pressing matters to tend to? And under the guise of 'Safety' someone called Security?

It seems clear to us that someone, we feel out of vindictiveness, called Security, of all people, to address a wad of cloth or paper that was clearly

not in the line of traffic in and out of the room.

My wife is the Director of Student Services for a large school district. I am a former firefighter/EMT and former Director of Safety for a large school district. I have a MS in Public Safety Administration. So I have a pretty good idea of what goes into the Safety of a large campus such as Abrazo West. But I have no idea why someone sicked Security on my wife... for something so simple. We were later told that she "should have thrown it away." However not knowing if it was to be thrown away or laundered as she did not know what was in the bundle, my wife carefully placed it in a corner, away from the flow of traffic in order to sit down. No crime here. But instead, Security was called.

I it this type of action that can give a hospital a bad review. And when nicely asked why Security was called, the nurse turned and walked away. Was it guilt? Was it rudeness? Was it incompetence? We don't know the answer. But we do know that this action to call Security, to take them from their real duties was uncalled for.

Thank you for your attention to this matter

Claimed loss: My wife's dignity and the nurse's integrity as a professional

Desired outcome: Nurse should be challenged for her absurd actions calling Security rather than talking to us as a person and a professional. Ridiculous action on her part.
