On December 31st I recieved an email stating I had made a transfer. I contacted Remitly Chat and told them I didn't authorize any transfers. Actually four transfers were attempted. I was told that the transfers were blocked and my account was closed. The next day (Jan 1, 2023 I checked to see if any transfers had gone through and none had. I didn't check my account until Jan 14th when I went in to pay my Visa bill. Then I noticed two transfers that occurred on December 31 but were not posted to my BMO account until Jan 3, 2023. I returned to the Chat and they said I should contact my bank. The agents at BMO customer service told me different things each time I phoned in. Finally I contacted my home branch but because I am in Mexico I could not start a fraud investigation because I would have to sign a document.

The charges were $715.75 S4F5BC and $950.96 P1F7BC. Total $1666.71.

Remitly should never have allowed these transactions because they were send to and an account at the Scotia Bank in Mexico and I have never sent money to anyone at the Scotia Bank. Furthermore my daily limit is much more that $1666.71 so why should I do two transfers within minutes when one transfer for the entire amount would be enough?

Country of complaint: Canada

Desired outcome: I would like a refund.
