I found the apartment listing online and did some checking and thought it to be a nice place to live. After a brief tour I decided to sign the lease. I lived there for two year and these were the two worst years ever.
If I ever had an issue, such as the community washer was not working or neighbors were taking my laundry, it fell on deaf ears. The heat goes out all the time and is not yours to control as they will tell you but on a timer that you can hear click on and off during the day.
The smoke detectors, while they say they work, will go off at all times of the night until you take the batteries out. Even after complaining that it should be fixed, they will do nothing. Several times I would ask management to ask my neighbors to turn their music down or to put signs up regarding hours for laundry time, this also lead to them doing nothing.
The security is a joke, anyone can walk in off the street and get into the building. Each apartment only has one lock, none of which are very sturdy. The storm windows are covered with cardboard to cover the cracks and the you can see where mice are getting in.
The one thing that management will do is monitor the parking lot and the dumpster. Only renters can park in the lot, if by some chance a family member or friend wants to pick you up, the apartment manager will come out of her apartment and yell at the person to get out of the lot. Several times my mother or father came to pick me up and each time the manager would run outside and chase them away and it was a tow away zone, even if they were not parked in the tow zone. I borrowed a friends car for a few days and parked it in my spot, I came out one day to see a large orange sticker saying I had been parked there illegally and if the car was there in the morning it will be towed. The sticker was put on the windshield, which is illegal to do to someone's car. I called the manager right away to ask why this was done. Her reply was I had not registered the car so she had the notion that I was renting my space to someone for money. It is nowhere in the lease that I need to register what car I am driving. The manager is very high on her own power and does little to help with any issue asked of her. When issues began to come up left and right, ie bugs, heat going out, an the neighbors taking laundry, she began screening her calls and would not return them. The owner, while a nice man, turns a blind eye to what she is doing.
Any finally, the two big reasons not to live there, besides the lack of responsibility taken by the owner, are the bugs and mice. As I was moving out I received a notice that pest control was coming for an inspection and that was all. I later was notified that a few of the apartments were indeed infested with bed bugs, while the building itself has mice. There are droppings in the basement and you can hear them in the walls.
As a first time renter this was a huge learning experience for me.

This is the worst, most unethically run apartment at which I've ever lived. Maintenance calls take a month at least, and mind you everything in the apartment WILL BREAK. Maintenance fixed my broken faucet with duct tape. The apartment manager is incredibly aggressive, chasing away guests and sending threatening letters to tenants. Not to mention the paper signs around the apartment threatening to call the police. Upon finally moving out, forget about your security deposit. They will charge for light bulbs used (not kidding), furniture in the dumpster, and they will charge you for a new closet door (theirs will fall off the track the first time you use it, and inevitably break when you try to reroute it yourself. Remember, maintenance will not come.) Please don't patronize this terrible con.

Oh yeah, the closet doors that came off track rolling over your dirty clothes that fell from the mound all over. Maintenance had to come while you were there and still you wouldn't let them in because, "you never saw them before" even though they were there numerous times because of YOUR being an idiot. Could never figure out to push the reset button on the alarm. You broke 2 of them into pieces. And yes, the old faucet sprung a leak on the side of the arm. You were told a new one had to be purchased and installed the next day, seeing you were moving in like a week, you approved the quick fix. Faucet was replaced. Ah yes, the place was a sty. For a woman, you kept a sty. Or the time you accused people of killing your cat...police, flyers, mom, dad, sis, calling the owner 5 times...what, cat was chill up inside your couch? [censored]
