Virginia Employment Commission [VEC] - Most inept organization ever.

I have recently found myself in a position where my employment with the shipyards has been put on an extended hiatus, so I am attempting to get some assistance through the Norfolk VEC Unemployment system, but cannot believe how terrible they are...

Firstly, I filed my initial claim back in March, and received a notice of acceptance in the mail. This is when the fun really started, because then I had to attempt to file for weekly benefits, which seems to be something they are vehemently against.

For background, I have found myself unemployed before, when I lived in Hampton Virginia, and simply went into the Hampton VEC office to file for unemployment. I was accepted to file for benefits, and from then forward was able to simply / efficiently file my weekly claims by phone for almost a year, without any issues. Unfortunately, after moving back to Norfolk Virginia, I have realized that their process is much more convoluted, and troublesome. I am thinking it is because of the worthless excuse for employees that they have hired to handle claims. Add this to the Covid pandemic, and you are left with a recipe for MASSIVE laziness, phones never being answered, and practically nothing getting done.

On top of this, their so called 'Online Claimant Self Service' website is a literal bugfest of glitches, and poor design, not allowing you to create a new user account, and then if you are allowed to make a new account not letting you ever log back in without the following stupid error at the login page.

*We are not able to authenticate your digital identity based on the information you provided or the device you are using. As a result, please call the Customer Contact Center at [protected] for further assistance.*

Keep in mind that this is after you just logged out, it will not allow you back in because [censored]ic Middle School dropouts created the website. These people are almost prehistoric in their technological savvy, and useless when it comes to trying to get help. As such, if you are out of work in this city, just find another job, because Norfolk Virginia is run by worthless, lazy fools, who refuse to work for a living, and do not care in the least if you need assistance!

Desired outcome: Please fix your Claimant Self Service site, to allow for proper logging in. Please provide a realistic way to speak with a human being, and not some automated robot to deal with unemployment benefit issues.

Welcome to the world of stupidness..I haven't gotten paid in 2 months and when ever I talk to a so called agent they are worthless and can tell you nothing about your claim. I my case 8 claims! then after not being able to help they have the nerve to say "is there anything else I can help you with" SERIOUSLY! No money, no food, bills not getting paid..shame on them all. Do you think on Friday they all get paid hell YES. and the rest of us suffer and all we get from them is "I'm Sorry" The governor should go there in person and raise hell...Better yet don't pay anyone until the system is fixed.Lets see them try to collect unemployment..

I hear you man, it is just mind-boggling to me that a so called 'federal office' is being run so incredibly inefficiently. I guess that is just life in Virginia!

Did you ever find a fix to the glitch? I got an email that I had correspondence waiting for me but I can't get in to access it, even though I made my account on my phone, it's used my phone number to verify it's me several times, but now it can't verify my digital identity to let me in... I've tried everything, and nothing seems to be working.

Unfortunately no, I am sorry, but this system is so broken, and their people are so worthless that it is hopeless friend...

I have moved since my initial posting on this, an 'attempted' to change my address / phone number / payment option at that time, but that only sent their ignorant, LAZY staff into a tailspin of calamity, as they 'TRIED' to figure out the completely unnecessarily complex system that they expect you to figure out on your own. So now, there has been a 'Hold put on payment' to my account, while these chimps go back to school to learn how computers work.

If you are hoping for this to get cleaned up, DON'T HOLD YOUR BREATH, sorry!

It is a shame that they are holding the benefit money because of an outstanding issue that only they know about not relaying the issue to the person who is waiting for their benefits . the call in number is a big joke, never can get intouch with anybody, I don't care how early or how late u call they should just have a special number to handle these issues. So do frustrating.
