My name is Charles Breedlove, and I am an E8 Military Retiree with 25 plus years of service in Both the Marine Corps and US Army. I've served in 2 periods of war (Viet Nam & he Persian Gulf) So I've truly honorably served my country. I humbly submit that I was decorated for valor in both periods of service. I am also a massive lover of Crab Legs and over the years have found that no other venue satisfies my crab cravings and desires like Joe's Crab Shack. That finding holds true all over the Southern states that my significant other and I frequently travel, We frequent Joe's Crab Shack a ton and until Sunday November 13th have never been disappointed. My wife made note on November 11 that Joe's Crab shack was honoring veterans on Sunday November 13th, and suggested that we travel to Memphis (145 Miles from our hometown of Little Rock, AR) so that I might enjoy my favorite meal. No problem for us as we didn't find the drive as being too far. We however were disappointed when our order arrived at the table. The My King Crab Legs were more like Queen sized legs as described by my wife. I was disappointed in the serving size, but no problem, IT IS WHAT IT IS. Just maybe all restaurants do not receive the colossal legs for serving that we are generally served. In October we'd dined at Joe's in Branson, MO and to be honest the serving was so large it was almost embarrassing, So just maybe it all balances out.
Now here's my real complaint. Upon arrival as we sat and ordered there seemed to have been a lack of knowledge of and also an issue with us asking for an advertised Veterans discount (20%). upon completing our meal a person, who I assumed was the Manager, came to our table and asked for my Military Credentials, which I readily presented. His mannerism were suspect. As a retiree from the Military and also as a retired Senior Manager with the US Government I recognize attitudes and insinuations. This person disrespected me as he for some reasons felt as if I was trying to take advantage of the Veterans day offer and was not a Veterans. He seemed terribly surprised at my Retiring Rank. The money required was not a problem for us. The attitudes displayed is what we don't deserve, I don't deserve. I don't brag about my Medals and I have a plethora of them, nor my actual time in service as both was an honor for me. I however despise people who attempt to discount my service. It is our (my wife and me) belief that the meager serving size was due specifically to our asking for a Veteran's discount.
Desired outcome: Educate your staff. Retirees really hate the Veterans Day attention; we comply simply to please our family members who choose to celebrate our prior service in the military.
